I'm back, miss me? Well, it hasn't actually been that long... still. I've been busy.

This week on But Why Though?...

Mortals Meet Demigods

OK. Let me clear up one thing: I like these types of stories! They're entertaining, sometimes funny, and I enjoy reading them.

BUT I have a few problems with them...

1. THERE ARE SO MANY

Seriously, any time I search mortals and demigods in the same search, I get at least a thousand of them, and they ALL HAVE THE SAME TITLE. Well, a similar title. Don't get me wrong, I like that there are lots to choose from. The problem is that I like to read long stories that I can get invested in, and A LOT of these are just one-shots or two-shots. It makes it less fun when the story ends two minutes after I start it. I really only enjoy one-shots if they are well written and conclude well, and trust me, most of these one-shots don't.

2. Overuse

The problem with cliches is that the writer has to work really hard to be original, and it sometimes comes off too strong. A lot of stories are just all over the place, and there is little to no build-up in the story. (I know, that's literally what one-shots are. I guess I prefer longer stories.) Pretty much any idea for a character or situation you have is already taken.

3. OC

ARGH. I very much dislike made-up characters. I know that they are sometimes necessary to the story, but seriously! I'm reading the story because of the Percy Jackson characters, not because of Thelmina Shimmer Shine Butterfly, or whatever crazy name the writer gives them. And then, naturally, the whole thing turns out to be a love story between one OC and another OC, and I'm just sitting here wondering if I'm supposed to care.

4. OOC characters

Percy is not stupid! Stop making him that way! Annabeth does not judo-flip everybody! Stop making her do that! It gets old really fast. I know it may not seem like a character is OOC while writing the story, but that's what beta-readers and proof-reading are for.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my weekly rant. Almost weekly, I guess. Sometimes I forget.

Don't forget to favorite, follow, and review!

Peace out,
