In this fic, Ainz is, instead of a necromancer, a type of chrono wizard. Some notes for people to know:
I haven't changed Ainz race because I don't know what a time centric race is.
This might be a one shot, it might not be
I am garbage at naming spells
IDK if this makes him slightly weak, like I don't know how he could have defeated shalltear with the build in this AU?
Inspired by Machinations of a Forlorn Conspiracy, where one of the OCs is a quantum wizard, which almost directly led to this. It is unfortunately abandoned? So I can't recommend it.
Also Inspired by Brave New World: The Summit, where Ainz impresses the new worlders with a trivial 10th tier time stopping spell, also abandoned? And so I also cannot wholeheartedly recommend it.
Nimble Arc Dale Anoch used to take pride in his role as one of the four imperial knights. He knew that despite them not being the best of the best, there were few that could oppose them. When he first got this assignment, he was prepared for a mage on par with lord Fluder and with an aura to match. The undead and his entourage that he met far outstriped everything he thought possible; the twin elf sisters looked young, but their equipment and protectiveness hinted at their power. If even the adorable children were that strong, he couldn't imagine how strong the undead was. Weirdly, he felt no ill will towards the living, but it could just be hiding it.
Now the time had come for battle, and while he was normally nervous for this part, that was incomparable to what he was feeling now. This time he had requested the undead to use his strongest spell to start, and the only word to describe what he was feeling was dread, he knew in his bones that nothing good was coming.
I have two separate spell ideas, I wrote both, after the next line break I have written the other spell, more short and concise. Just wanted to get a different idea across.
He startled out of his thoughts as the undead turned towards him, "Excuse me, I have selected an adequate spell" his oddly majestic voice boomed, "just under half an hour ago the kingdom's armies hadn't formed up yet, correct?"
Nimble blinked, that was an odd question, but he casted his mind back and reviewed the kingdom's approach to war. Despite their large armies, the rough ranks and lack of discipline meant that they could get into form fairly fast. Fast was a relative term though, and where his armies could form up in under 5mins, they had taken just under 30 mins.
"I believe so, your majesty, … but perhaps that might be pushing it" he added hesitantly, unsure of what spell he had planned.
Ainz for his part was slightly panicking, his build was focused on roleplaying support, and he lacked large AOE spells. The one he had picked was Reversal of The Fates(Dissolution of Sands?, Tipping of Time?, As the Oak leaf rises?). It was a super tier spell that allowed the caster to turn back time a certain amount, up to around half an hour, with the caster having to pick any one group of players to remain unaffected. The main drawback was the immense casting time, up to 5 mins and unable to be bypassed by cash items, the casters inability to only pick allies, and the insanely obvious casting animation. In game it was a mid ranked spell, but if used with proper support, if the caster could get the spell off, and if a good group is picked by the caster, it was broken. But the difficulty in getting the spell to cast and managing to pick a correct group was high, there was a 90% chance that someone with no experience would accidentally effect their allies or not effect anyone or effect everyone. With Ainz Ooal Gown supporting him, he had been one of the few people to have the chance to master the spell, which in turn catapulted the power of the guild.
It was a slightly overkill spell to use, but it killed two birds with one stone, it was one of the few AOE spells he had and also his most powerful and as such most necessary to test in this world. He paused to wonder how the animation would work in this world, but dismissed it as something he would find out shortly. Because of its massive potential, he probably shouldn't give out too many details on how it works. He glanced at the man next to him, he was sweating a lot.
He must be nervous, but I guessed that was only expected before a battle. Glancing at the twins, they smiled brightly before turning their attention towards the humans around them, his safety still highest in their mind.
"General Nimble, I will begin casting the spell now, in about 5 minutes it shall take effect. Please defend me" Ainz said as he began to cast the spell.
Nimble could only look on in horror as his first thought of confusion changed into fear, what kind of spell could take 5 mins to cast? Looking upon the massive spiral of glowing runes, disks 50m wide spinning ominously, and worst of all, the thousands of red threads coming from the soldiers of the kingdom coming together to intertwine into a single thread slowly approaching the undead's hand, he could only imagine what was going to happen. But he had a job to do and perhaps the spell wasn't as bad as he felt it was, he wasn't a magician. Except his warriors' intuition was telling him to run very far.
Ainz watched on as the general ordered his men into a defensive position, looking like, at least to Aura and Mare, as if he was thinking about a great number of complex and complicated things. They smiled at the display of power by their Lord, they could feel the power and ability held in the threads being brought forth by his hand, these humans would soon learn to not doubt him. Sharing a secret glance, they resumed their vigil, no one must be able to attack their lord while he was vulnerable. Normally the other supreme beings would guard him, but as they had abandoned , no left momentarily, the job fell to them. They shared a shred of sadness with the happiness of duty, their creator, bukubukuchagama used to handle this duty often as the resident tank for the guild.
Ainz was slightly concerned, the sheer size of the spell now coming into being, with nearly all of the army having a string. This was far beyond what normally happened, but it was kinda exciting, he could feel the threads of fate. He knew, kinda like how to use magic, which way to pull the massive thread to achieve the result he wanted and how to manipulate the fate in any way of the humans. He watched dispassionately as the kingdom's armies went from stupefying fear, to bravo and useless desperation.
Gazef was having a bad day, and that was an understatement. He knew the moment he had heard of the declaration from the empire that their only chance was to give up the land. He could still remember the first time he laid eyes on him, the village littered with the skeletons of knights he had defeated. He had been told that it was a spell that he had spent his life developing, but looking at the spear of light in front of him, he wondered how long he had to life to develop such a spell. He could hear the nobles who just moments before were about to shit their pants, start to bluster and become arrogant as the minutes passed. They were not warriors or fighters, they couldn't feel the incredible sense of dread coming from the spell caster. Granted most of the army couldn't feel it either, only his troop and some of the noble's elite guard could. But the only thing those precious few sensitive enough could do was try and protect their charges, and the only other impulse - other than run away - was to stop the casting. But he and the smarter nobles knew that while they may win a long siege, the empire's knights could hold their position for at least a few days. Sighing, he turned his eyes from the scene ahead of him and turned to look after his king.
Watching the battle from the side of the caster, Nimble knew he should be worried, but the power of the spell was coming to a peak and he had been told to ready the cavalry. As the kingdom crashed against the walls of shield bearers, he felt compelled to retreat to the walls of their fort but held firm. But then he felt a massive wave of magic release, turning to the side, he saw the undead grasp out and yank the thread. Then silence, no… not silence, there was still sound, but the sound of fighting had ceased, somehow creating a deafening lack of sound. He hurriedly turned his attention towards the battlefield. The kingdom was suddenly back to their sleepy camp, slowly waking up. Not letting him think about the impossibility of what had happened, he gave his orders. This at least was routine.
Really slowed down at the end, idk how I should have ended that. That gives the idea of what I had thought of I guess.
After giving the undead the request to use its most powerful spell, Nimble watched as a spire of light and runes, with giant rune circles rotating around the center, the whole construct oozing mana like a ripe fruit(this doesn't make sense).
Ainz was looking out for players, but with a shake of his head, he takes out a cash item and crushes it, instantly finishing the casting. Raising his arms, he ended the incantation "threads of fate, obey my power, may eternity pass under my will, Dissolution of Eons!"(idk man)
His men looked on in horror as a magic field surrounded the enemy field, but nothing was happening? Then reality shifted, the men in the field looked on in horror as everything in there blurred.
They withered into bones, rust crawled up their armor and weapons, the ground beneath That was them growing generations of grass in an instant. Soon their bodies could no longer be seen as new types of life evolved, somehow a tree grew. Soon a forest stood where there once was an army. Suddenly he jerked at a noise like thunder in the pindrop silence surrounding the devastation.
"HAHAHAHA, Extraordinary, my best use yet, 20,000 years, applaud my supreme power"
The elfs started clapping, and that was when Nimble knew that this was an enemy that no one could face.
That was something, idk how much I like the second idea but it fits more with what actually happened. The first is what I imagined but I think it makes Ainz too much of a support but if you have an idea that would work plz review or write a story because we must serve the overlord lol!
