Chapter 8

September 10th 1986

Surrey, England

Harry worked to brush his unruly hair down as he waited for the noise that indicated that his cousin Dudley was ready to go.

It was the first day of fourth grade for young Harry and for Dudley it was his first day of first grade.

And because they would both be getting on the same bus Harry had to wait for Dudley who Aunt Petunia was currently fussing over.

Fussing over Dudley a lot more than she did on his first day of school.

Harry did not mind though since he was quite eager to sit with his good friend Daphne.

He was ecstatic that the two of them had been put together in the same class for four years in a row now.

After all they went to a fairly large Public School with well over a thousand students.

The fluctuation was quite intense with Harry barely seeing anyone two years in a row.

He then realized how lucky he was to keep being put in the same class as his best friend.

And Dudley's class was pretty much on the other side of the building so having his cousin going to school would not interfere with Harrys life to much.

Finally Dudley finished his breakfast and Harry who had already eaten grabbed a piece of toast and followed Dudley and Aunt Petunia outside to the bus.

Getting on he quickly found his friend sitting near the back of the bus with the other kids.

Daphne smiled as Harry slid into the seat with her.

"Hey"She said "How has your day been so far".

Harry shook his head and gestured to the front of the bus where his cousin was sitting.

"Dudley's starting school today" He explained with a grimace "But other than that im doing fine".

Daphne winced.

She knew that while Harry did not dislike his relatives he was very bitter about the fact that he had been left there and the level of affection that Dudley got and he was denied.

He was not abused or anything but he was certainly not loved by his relatives.

That's why Daphne tried to make his times outside of home fun and enjoyable.

She wanted to invite Harry over to her house but her parents had said to not invite anyone over until she got to Hogwarts.

So in place of having her friend over to her home Daphne decided that the next best thing was to spend as much time as possible when they where not in school visiting various places around town.

Their favorite places to go for the most part where the library, the creek, the playground and the zoo.

School was fun though too.

Somehow she had ended up with the same teacher as Harry for the fourth year in a row now.

This year it was Mr. Goldheart who Daphne and Harry had heard many good things about him.

An older students named Mathias had him last year and had spoken well of him.

Daphne was just happy regardless off who the teacher was that she was in the same class as her friend.

Her best friend at that.

She felt blessed to have ran into him on her first day of school and a fellow magic person at that.

Having Harry by her side through school was very helpful and in just under a year or so they would both be getting their invitation letters to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

That was going to be an exciting moment.

Daphne had been spending a lot of time thinking about Hogwarts.

Her parents had been giving her a lot of books to read about magic to prepare her for Hogwarts that she had been sharing and going over with Harry.

It turns out there where quite a few Muggle fields that correspond with Magical ones.

The main one that she was interested in though was cooking because of its closeness to Potions.

Potions was a subject that Daphne's mother had been a specialist in and she wanted to follow in the footsteps of Sophia Greengrass.

And Harry was proving to be quite proficient in his own way.

One day a few weeks ago when they had agreed to meet up by the creek Daphne had decided to head there early and was astonished to see Harry levitating and throwing some rocks and causing leaves to be cut in half.

Harry had somehow learned how to do a wordless and wandless Levitation and Cutting Charm.

Daphne was amazed although she didn't ask him about it once she realized he had not told her about what he had been working on.

SCENE CHANGE
A few days later during the evening when Daphne was unavailable Harry hiked his way down to the creek bed to practice.

Ever since he had learnt how to do a wandless Levitation Charms last year Harry had been working hard to learning as much magic as possible.

After all when this year was over Harry and Daphne only had one more year left in Muggle Schooling before they started magic at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Harry was looking forward to that with Daphne.

They had both been spending a lot of time reading books to prepare them for Hogwarts but with those and the help of his dreams about Tom Riddle he hoped to do more.

He wanted to get a grip on First Year magic wandlessly before he got himself a wand.

That's why he had not told Daphne about his training sessions he was doing in secret.

He did not want to keep that a secret but surprise her with his skills.

Harry supposed that at heart he was a bit of a show off.

Daphne was the only person that he could really show off to though.

Getting to the edge of the stream Harry got settled.

He had about forty minutes of practice or so for today before he had to get home and get ready for Aunt Marge's Visit.

Harry shivered at that though.

He disliked having dinner with that unpleasant woman but he had other things to focus on for the moment.

Focusing on a rock in the middle of the creek Harry spoke clearly "Wingardium Leviosa".

Smiling Harry watched as the rock lifted up in the air.

And now was the hard part.

"Bombarda".

Harry grunted as a beam came out of his hand and hit the rock blowing it into pieces.

Happy Harry sat down to catch his breath.

It had been hit or miss with that one so far but when he had been successful he had always been worn out at the end.

He needed to work on his stamina and endurance a bit.

Daphne had started gymnastics maybe he needed to work out a training program for himself then.

Practice makes perfect on this stuff after all.

Reaching up to rub his forehead Harry stopped in shock as he saw a stream of water rising into the air following the motion of his hand.

His shock then caused the water to fall back into the creek.

Harry blinked twice.

What was that.

Was it the Levitation Charm.

It couldn't have been though the Levitation Charm could only be used on hard objects like stone not water and he wasn't even thinking about any magic at the moment.

So what could it have been then.

Harry decided to try and recreate what he had done so he could figure out what exactly he had done.

Standing up and focusing Harry turned to the water and tried to get it to levitate again.

It took about ten to fifteen minutes of practice but Harry was satisfied to see the water levitating again.

He was then able to control the water and move it around a bit more although he quickly realized how much focus it required to do what ever he was doing.

Exhausted Harry then decided to call it a day and start heading home.

As he was walking back to the Dursleys House Harry noticed a flyer hanging on a pole that caught his attention.

It was a advertisement for Liu Dao's Martial Arts Academy.

Martial Arts.

Reading the flyer more Harry saw that Liu dealt with multiple forms of Martial Arts and that he was one of the best out there and would then only take the best out there.

Martial Arts was a field that dealt with focus and control.

Could that help him with his Magic Harry thought.

It was worth a shot looking into that he thought.

He would see if he could get the Dursleys Permission to apply.

And the hours that the flyer said where available also corresponded with the time that Daphne had Gymnastics lessons.

So that would work out.

SCENE CHANGE

A Few Days later Harry stood at the entrance to Master Liu Dao's Martial Arts Academy.

He had gotten permission from the Dursleys to go visit as they where eager for him to be out of the house as much as possible and for him to learn something that they could take credit for him achieving even though they had no involvement in his decision.

Harry didn't care though.

Daphne had been surprised by his decision to apply to learn Martial Arts but was supportive of him none the less especially when he told her that his hours would be the same as her hours for gymnastics.

So it would not interfere with their time together.

Daphne thus wished him the best of luck at Martial Arts and promised him to teach her anything interesting he learned.

Entering the building Harry was treated to the sight of a small building with a few rooms and an elderly man that looked to be in his 60s or so who was sitting at a table and sipping a cup of tea.

Walking to the man Harry cleared his throat .

The man looked up and smiled.

"Hello young gentlemen "He said "My name is Master Dao and what might i do for you today".

Harry breathed in.

"I would like to learn Martial Arts "He said firmly.

Master Dao looked at Harry appraisingly.

"And what is your name "He asked.

"Harry "Was the reply "Harry James Potter".

At that Master Dao looked intrigued.

"Potter "He asked "As in any relationship to Michael Potter".

Harry was shocked and he scowled at the same time.

Master Dao smiled and gestured to a side room.

"I think that this is a conversation that should be in a more peaceful environment".

Harry followed Master Dao into a room with a table and seats on the floor.

He took a seat opposite Master Dao.

"You are Michael Potters Brother "Master Dao asked.

Harry gasped.

"So you are than"Master Dao said.

Harry nodded dumbly.

Master Dao smiled "Magical are we now".

"Are you "Harry asked.

Master Dao nodded in the affirmative.

Harry felt euphoric.

Another Magical user.

He looked around.

"Do you keep your wand here "He asked.

Master Dao shook his head.

"No"He said "I do not use a wand".

Someone else who knew how to do wandless magic.

"Why "He asked.

Master Dao took a breath.

"I was born in China "He said "My parents immigrated to Europe when the Japanese invaded and occupied our home".

"I then found out that i was a wizard and could attend Hogwarts"Master Dao said "But i found out that i could not use a wand".

Not use a wand.

Seeing his confusion Master Dao explained.

"Have you heard of Olivanders before "He asked.

Harry nodded.

He had read about Olivanders before.

"He said that i was very special and that none of the wands that he had would work for me"Master Dao said "I was apparently not the only one to have that problem though so he directed me to the ghost of the last person before me to have had that problem in the 14th Century a Mr. Zhu Yuanzhang".

"Mr Yuanzhang despite being a ghost was able to help me by teaching me the four elements".

"The Four Elements "Harry asked.

Master Dao nodded "The four elements of nature "He said "Fire,Water,Earth and Air from which all magic is based upon".

Wow.

Harry Harry had never heard of that before.

"Not a lot of wizards have"Master Dao said seeming to have echoed his thoughts.

"Fire is the element of power from which the Dark Arts and subsequently Defense against the Dark Arts are based and the power of which forms the basis of Ancient Runes".

"Water is the element of change from which Transfiguration is based upon which is a subject about changing things".

"Earth is the element of substance from which Herbology is based and which is used heavily in Potions as well as the subject alteration of charms and understanding the Earth helps you in Care of Magical Creatures".
"Air is the element of freedom which allows you to Apparate and fly and which is the basis of Astronomy".

"Knowing these four elements give you a edge in all subjects"Master Dao said "Alchemy is the only taught subject over these four elements but it is something only taught in sixth year and doesn't go over much".

Harrys mind was spinning.

Water.

That was what he was doing then.

Off in the distance he saw a bowl of water.

Focusing he worked on lifting the water.

Master Dao looked astonished.

"I see you have already dipped into the elements "He said.

"I don't know sir "Harry said "I just was able to lift the water earlier and i wanted to go see if Martial Arts could help me focus more".

Master Dao nodded "I can help you with that "He said "With Taijiquan,Hung Gar,Shaolinquan and Baguazhang".

Master Dao then handed Harry a paper that he looked over.

Taijiquan Forms

Taijiquan Postures

Taijiquan Principles

Wow this looked complicated.

Master Dao saw Harrys hesitation.

"Don't worry "He said "This will only be what we will focus on for now and then by the end of your training you will be able to do the four elements in a way that no one else can".

He then punctuated that by shooting fire out of his hand, lifting a rock on the floor, blowing air and pulling a cup of water into a stream".

Wow.

Harry looked at Master Dao and finally nodded.

"When do we start "He asked.
