Chapter 11

September 1st 1988

Surrey,England

On the day he was set to go to Hogwarts Harry rode in the back of Vernons car as he drove him to the train station.

Vernon would drive Harry to the platform where he would meet up with the Greengrass Family.

He was looking forward to it.

And to the Magical world that he would be entering.

A month ago he had gone with Daphne and her mom to get their school supplies at Daigon Alley and it was a major eye opener to him.

His only experience of the Magical World before today was the Potter Residence that he had not been in for nearly seven years and stuff he heard about from Daphne.

But to see it in person was something different.

There where so many poor people walking around and so many run down buildings along Diagon Alley that where not part of the main school stores.

And he had done some research in the month or so since then and had talked to Master Dao about that.

Daphne was a Greengrass which was a member of the Sacred Twenty Eight of the highest ranking Pureblood familys.

And her family was quite well off.

After the War had ended Minister of Magic Bagnold had basically implimented tax cuts on the rich and tax increases on the poor.

And a program of investing in business after the war.

Which like over ninety percent where founded by the Sacred Twenty Eight since the bar for getting government funds was so low.

Many of the Sacred Twenty Eight had gotten even richer over the past decade off that.

And Daphnes family was one of those.

Harry was conflicted about that.

The Greengrasses where one of the few familys that had actually built their fortune off hard work and time but they where also part of a group that despite being less than one percent of the population controlled more than 60 percent of all wealth in the country.

He could tell Daphne was conflicted by the fact that she was living good while a lot of other people in Britiain lived on much less.

It was a abomination.

Harry had talked to Master Dao and he had said that it was not that much better for him when he was growing up and when he had many others had returned from fighting Grindlewald they had came home to a place where many of those who where not Purebloods where denied top jobs and had trouble making ends meet.

That was why Master Dao said that he had decided to move over to the Muggle World where he was respected a lot more because of his Martial Arts skills and he was able to make more of a living off doing that.

But it was disturbing to Harry how backwards the Magical World was in comparison to the Muggle World that they scored so much.

After all with the stuff that they had been asked to take to Hogwarts one would think that they where going to school in the year 1488 not 1988.

So even more disturbing than the problems that he had noticed was for how very very long those issues had been going on for.

He tried to put those unpleasant thoughts out of his head though as they got close to the train station.

Soon Harry got out of the car and meet up with the whole Greengrass family.

Their was Adeline Greengrass the one who had helped him so much with getting his own things in Daigon Alley even with the lack of any sort of support from the Potters.

Daphne.

Her father Cyrus Greengrass a tough businessman who had been unfortunately resigned to a desk job after a rather serious injury in the war.

Little Astoria Greengrass who was just a delight to be around and someone who had semed to like him ever since she had meet him just a few days ago.

And Harrys owl Hedwig who was actually the hatchlet of one of the Greengrass familys owls had and that the two had bonded.

He waved to them.

They all waved back to him and Daphne gave him a big smile as he walked over.

"Ready for Hogwarts Harry"Cyrus asked.

Harry nodded "As well as i ever will be"He replied.

"And make sure that you find good places to practice your gymnastics Daphne and your Martial Arts Harry"Adeline said.

"We will Mom"Daphne replied.

Harry nodded.

Before he had left for Hogwarts Master Dao had given him several large books of instructions to make sure that he could continue practicing throughout the year and not become stale while also learning some new forms so that he could continue to advance in his Martial Arts training.

And Daphne had gotten something similar from her Gymnastics Instructor.

They all went through the barrier and onto platform Nine and three quarters.

It was ten till.

"All right you two"Adeline said "You had better go get yourselves a good seat before their all taken".

She then gave Daphne a quick kiss and Harry a hug.

Harry stiffened briefly at the unexpected contact but enjoyed it none the less.

Astoria came up and embraced the both of them before it was time for Harry and Daphne to hurry onto the train waving to the rest of the Greengrasses.

The two of them then worked to find a compartment that they could sit in together while also lugging their stuff behind them.

Their where overall seventy two compartments on the train but Daphne led them to a section of compartments of the train that was separated by a door.

"This is the Purebloods Section"She said distastefully "Only the Scions of the Sacred Twenty Eight and their friends can sit in these compartments".

"Is it a requirement to sit there"Harry asked.

Daphne shrugged "I dont know if its mandatory but it is custom"She said "And i would appreciate your company in dealing with those snobs"She gave him a pleading face.

Harry sighed.

He could never resist her pouts.

"Ok"He said "Where are we going to sit".

Smiling Daphne pulled him into a compartment with comfy seats and nice furnishings.

Harry found himself a seat and Daphne plopped down next to him.

"So"Daphne asked "What house do you hope to get into".

"I dont really know Daph"Harry replied "Whichever one fits me most i suppose".

"What about the Potters"She asked "I know you have not seen them in years but do you think that you will get any blowback if you get sorted into Slytherin or something like that".

"I hope not"Harry muttered "I dont really consider myself a Potter and i really want the ability to define my own path in life".

Daphne nodded

"I do want to try and make some more friends"Harry said "No offense Daph and youll always be my best friend but in order to have any sort of influence in life we need friends".

Daphne waved her hand "No offense taken"She said "I totally agree with you after all my father once he retires from the Wizgamnot wants either me or Astoria to take over for him".

Harry chuckled "He does know that your not really a political person".

"Yeah"Daphne said "Hes described some of the meetings that hes been in and it seems like you would be a lot more interested in them that i would be".

Harry nodded.

"Say"He wondered "You want you want to meet some of the kids that will be our classmates for the next seven years".

Daphne blanched "Ok"She siad "But your doing the talking".

"Sure"He said standing up and walking with Daphne outside the compartment.

Heading outside Harry and Daphne meet up with and meet a Raymond Schnider,George Horrigan,Joseph Verderber,Micheal Spender,Ronald Adam,Layla Murdock,Adalynn Monkton,Phillip Roberston,Tony Gaze,and Reynold Deutschman.

He found all of their conversations and introductions to be quite interesting.

Harry could tell though that Daphne did not like those meetings and he went back with her to their compartment.

"Thanks"She said "I really dont like dealing with people"And then laughed "I guess im more like my mom in that since since she is a great hostess but always leaves the social interactions to dad".

"Well i guess thats why you have me here"Harry said grinning "To deflect all the big bad scary junior politicians in waiting so they dont take up any more of your precious time.

They both burst out laughing.

SCENE CHANGE

The Train Ride turned out to be quite a blast especially when the food cart came by and Harry and Daphne bought as much food as they could carry.

Full off food the two of them just chatted a bit until it was time to arrive at Hogwarts and the both of them ducked out of their compartment so the other could change into their school robes.

Harry didint like his school robes they felt way to bulky for him.

He now understood why Daphne had brought so many other clothes for the days that they didint have to wear their robes.

If anything his friend had a great fashion sense.

"He wondered what house they would be going into".

"Both of Daphnes parents had been in Slytherin but both of his had been put in Gryfindor but he knew that he wanted to be in the same house as Daphne.

The two of them walked out onto a tiny dark platform and Harry saw Daphne shiver in the cold night air.

He offered her his overcoat which she accepted gracefully.

Harry soon heard a loud voice rising over everyone else.

"First years,First years over here".

A giant hairy man rose over the sea of students heads.

"Come on,follow me-any more first years"."Mind your step now, first years follow me".

Slipping and stumbling the group of students followed the man who introduced himself as Hagrid down a steep narrow path with thick trees on either side of spoke.

"Youl get your first sight of Hogwarts in a second"Hagrid called out "Just around this bend here".

Their was a lot of gasps.

The narrow path had opened suddenly onto the edge of a great black lake and perched atop a high mountain on the other side with its windows sparkling in the starry sky was a vast castle with many turrets and towers.

So this was Hogwarts.

He had been waiting to come here for so long and now he had finally arrived.

Daphne looked just as astonished as he was.

"No more than three to a boat"Hagrid called pointing to a fleet of little boats sitting in the water by the lake.

Harry and Daphne climbed in and where joined by another boy.

"Everyone in"Hagrid shouted in his own boat "All right then FORWARD".

And the fleet of little bpats moved off all at once, gliding across the lake that was as smooth as was quiet staring at the castle up ahead the towered over them as they sailed nearer and nearer to the cliff on which it stood.

"Heads down"Hagrid yelled as the first boats reached the cliff and they all bent their heads and the little boats carried them through a curtain of ivy that hid a wide opening in the cliff where carried along a dark tunnel that seemed to be taking them underneath the castle until the reached a underground harbor where they all climbed onto rocks and pebbles.

They all followed Hagrid up a passageway that ended up into a bunch of smooth, damp grss right under the shadow of the castle.

They walked up a flight of stone steps and crowded around the huge oak front door.

"Everyone here". Hagrid asked before raising a fist and knocking three times on the castle door.
