Chapter 15

October 8th 1988

Hogwarts

It had been over a month and the so called incident in the Snakes lair left Harry Potter conflicted.

A small part of him was pleased with how he was able to silence and humiliate Theodore Fawley all in one move. Taking pride that he had proven his strength to his own bigoted house mates who would want nothing more than to harm or embarrass him and Daphne.

However, there was another part of Harry Potter that was not pleased. He wanted to be a great wizard. He wanted to make a name for himself. He knew that great wizards could not allow themselves to be baited so easily, they could not allow their emotions to cloud their judgment. He needed to be better, he needed to do better. He needed to understand that if action should be taken, it should be done in the shadows. Was that not the way of his house?

Harry was aware that since the incident in the common room the other Slytherins had given him his space. He wasn't foolish enough to believe that it was permanent but for now they respected him and they respected strength. They respected him for an action that he now resented himself for following through on. He prided himself on not being a bully and he didn't want to turn into Fawley and beat people up when they upset him. However, he couldn't argue that learning different spells to better defend himself not just against Fawley but against other Slytherins was more than likely the best solution.

So when Harry and Daphne weren't working on homework they began studying a few new spells while all being careful since those where all meant for older students and using one of them could exhaust Harry and nearly drain his magical core. That was why most of the more useful spells were not taught until after third year because that was when witches and wizard's magical cores and magical endurance grew.

And while he had been practicing wandless magic for a bit he wanted to keep that a secret.

And on to that he did not know any combat wandless magic.

He had taken to learning as many spells as he could.

And Daphne had been incredibly helpful in that.

She was outraged at how he had gotten ambushed by thugs just for standing up for her and vowed to do whatever she could to help out.

So far the two of them had learned a lot of good spells together

Harry learned the Spider-Conjuring Spell abd the Snake Summons Spell Serpensortia which he appreciated being able to make snakes where he could practice his Parseltoung.

That was a skill that he was wanting to reveal at only the most opportune time.

Daphne had learned Terego a spell that allows a person to siphon liquid out of a area one of the best ways to clean minor wounds and scratches as a start.

They had also learned a lot of spells that didint really have any use.

Harry had also got down a lot of spells recently and Daphne had also learned a lot of spells to.

They had a list of spells that they where aiming to have down by the end of the year

They got a lot done but September passed fast for Harry, and Daphne. Their subjects were getting harder and their homework load piling up caused the friends to meet at the library on most was pleased that he was able to keep up with most of his classes, but he had little time to look through later topics that would be covered in the classes.

He could have gotten more spells learnt if he hadent had to deal with all the work.

But Harry and Daphne had worked out a sort of schedule of sorts.

They woke up at six and from six to six thirty Harry did his Tai Chi Practice, from six thirty to seven he did his Shaolinquan Practice, from seven to eight he did his Hung Gar Practice and from eight to nine he did his Baguazhang Practice and after that they went to grab breakfast before going to first period from nine to ten thirty second period from eleven to twelve thirty lunch from twelve thirty to one thirty, third period from one thirty to three, and fourth period from three thirty to five.

After that they either went to the Common Room or library to finish up assignments and study new spells before they went to bed by ten.

And Daphne got her Gymnastics practice in either in the morning or afternoon.

Harry was trying to learn several new Baguazhang forms

Those where all forms that Master Dao had not gone over with him before Hogwarts but Harry had asked for books on them so he could try them on his own.

He wasnt sure how good he was doing though.

Daphne had looked at the books to see if he was doing it right and hopefully between the two of them he was doing it right.

Harry also worked to help Daphne with her practice.

Currently they were both practicing in Harrys room and they had cleared out an area that was good enough to train in but he realized that they probably should look around the castle for an area that was more suited for training in.

They needed to spend some time exploring the castle a little bit and not just for finding good places to train.

Something to work on.

SCENE CHANGE

Harry and Daphne, walking in, were one of the last students to file into the Charms classroom. Harry spotted Fawley in the corner with his posse. The two shared a quick stare before Harry and Daphne made their way across the room where most of the Gryffindors sat.

A tactic they had been using in every one of their classes, whether it was with Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor was to try and with someone from another house. It was a small step, but Harry wanted to try to mend the gap between Slytherin and the other houses and Daphne had gone along with him. It had been greeted with suspicion at first, but now the two of them were warmly received and were usually able to chat up their fellow first years from the other houses. It was progress.

Soon Professor Filtwick came in and announced that he would be giving a recitation on the creation of the Levitation Charm.

The Levitation Charm was first developed in the sixteenth century, and warlock Jarleth Hobart is credited with its creation.

On 16 July, Hobart invited a large crowd of wizards, among which was the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, to witness his "maiden flight" — a public demonstration of his own revolutionary charm on himself. He climbed onto the roof of his local church and, after several speeches and a rousing performance of the national anthem he leapt and, having cast the spell, was left hovering in mid-air. At first, he seemed to have succeeded but, after having spent nearly three minutes watching him hanging in mid-air, the crowd grew impatient to see him move somewhere, and booed him.

In response to the catcalls, Hobart tried to move in midair, and started performing vigorous swimming movements, which produced no effect and making him fall ten feet onto the ground below. He fell completely on the ground, breaking sixteen bones, and received a fine for "outrageous silliness" from the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot in 1544

Hobart returned home, humiliated, where he realised that his spell could make objects levitate for varying lengths of time, depending on the skill of the spell-caster and on the weight of the object. He also concluded that small animals or even children could be levitated, but that they had no control whatsoever of their movement once airborne.

He thus made a second announcement, and an even larger crowd gathered to see his second demonstration of the sll (hoping for another laugh at his expense). Hobart's demonstration was, at first, by far more successful than the first one: he showed the onlookers how he could easily levitate objects ranging from small rocks to fallen trees. Hobart decided that, for a finale, he would levitate the Chief Warlock's hat — what he managed to levitate, however, was the Chief's wig, exposing his bald head to the gathered crowd. The Chief was not amused, and was determined to duel Hobart, but the Warlock levitated the Chief's robes over his head, and ran for it.

In the middle of Professor Filtwicks speech Harry and Daphne looked at each other with the same look.

Professor Filtwick definitely likes to speak.

But he was still better in that regards than their other teachers.

He taught in a entertaining and engaging style and didint just sit back and let them read like Rakepick or have them just start a assignment without any instructions like Snape.

Filtwick was definitely Harrys favorite teacher and Daphne's was Professor McGonagall who both taught in a engaging and entertaining way.

And then Professor Filtwick announced that they would be practicing the Ice Charm.

Talking about one charm and then asking people to do another seemed a bit confusing.

But oh well.
