Chapter 20
February 10th 1989
Hogwarts
Late one afternoon Daphne Greengrass was walking towards the Great Hall alongside her long time friend Harry Potter and their new friend Edmund Spiers.
It had been a month now since the Common Room Incident and its effects were still being felt in Slytherin House.
Daphne knew when she got sorted into Slytherin that they wernt the most friendly of bunches afterall Slytherin had a reputation for a reason
She had grown up with parents that even though they had not forced the common beliefs down her throat she knew about Pureblood Fundimentalism and agreed with Harry that those ideas were reprehensible.
Daphne wondered if she should have told Harry more about that before they had got to Hogwarts and then it would not be as much of a shock to him.
Maybe he would have been better in a different house since a good portion of Slytherin House where Pureblood Fundimentalists.
But Harry did not seem to be having problems dealing with the bigots in Slytherin House.
Back in September after Theodore Fawley and his goons had ambushed Harry he had resorted to getting back through brute force.
Which was a bad path to use because of having access to magic.
She didint fault him for getting back at the Bigots just wished that he had gone about it a different way.
They both used it as a learning experience though.
Harry went about learning new spells that he could use at a very quick rate.
Her friend was quite obviously a gifted prodigy.
And Daphne went about learning Brackium Emendo and Episkey spells used to heal broken bones and to treat mild to moderate injuries including split lips and broken noses.
That way she could help bandage Harry up after he got in his scrapes.
Quite early on in their friendship Daphne had found out that her friend was a fighter and a quite powerful one at that.
She was not though.
After her first visit to the Medical Wing Daphne found out that she was interested in medicine.
Madame Pomfrey was fascinating to her
After they had made friends with Edmund he had quickly noticed their personalities and questioned how a fighter and a healer were such good friends.
Harry and Daphne just worked together though.
And Daphne did train with Harry and she had been picking up spells and ways to defend herself if need be.
She would try and avoid a fight though and let Harry deal with it.
Besides most likely because of being a member of one of the Sacred Twenty Eight she was not targeted for anything though.
Harry was though sadly.
After September though thankfully her friend had not been targeted.
If anything else Slytherin respected power and Harry had shown strength.
That respect only lasted for so long though.
Daphne still remembered her heart dropping walking into the Common Room and seeing Harry against the wall.
He had definitely not stayed there for long though.
Daphne was mesmorized how he quickly broke out of the clutches and disabled five older Slytherins including Purebloods.
And he didint get hurt.
She was so proud.
Harry had used bending against the Slythrins without them knowing what he did.
He would have a lot to show Master Dao this summer.
Things were different now.
Theodore Fawley despite having a numerical advantage had gotten his but whipped.
Despite being a Pureblood and near the top of their house power ruled in Slytherin and if you were powerful you gained influence and if you showed weakness you lost influence.
And Theodore Fawley lost a lot of influence.
Slytherin House had then basically turned into a civil war with people competing for influence now that Fawley had been toppled.
And considering Harry wasnt aiming to take Fawleys place.
He said he wanted to adopt a wait and see policy.
They would see what this Slytherin Infighting produced.
It should be interesting.
SCENE CHANGE
One Saturday afternoon Harry and Daphne were in the library sitting at their usual table when they heard footsteps coming in their direction.
It wasnt Spiers since he had left to go send off an owl a bit ago.
Looking up from his book Harry and Daphne saw a group of Slytherins coming closer to their table. From what she could see they were all first years, Raymond Schnider,George Verderber and Micheal Spender if she wasn't mistaken.
They stopped in front of their table and Daphne saw Harry raise an eyebrow.
"May we sit?" Schnider asked in what was supposed to be a confident voice, though anyone could clearly hear the uncertainty that he was trying to hide.
Daphne saw Harry look over to her in a sort of questioning manner.
She shrugged, deferring to him.
Harry nodded,
Daphne saw the four of them relax just a little bit and sit in the vacant chairs.
She wondered what they had come to talk about.
It was probably politics.
Harry had after all done something not a lot of Slytherins did.
Slytherins wanted power, and they were ambitious. So it was only natural that someone who could be on at the head of the house wouldn't give it up, and would fight bitterly for it. Even if they would only be able to hold it for a year, or even just a month, it didn't matter; what mattered was the power they would gain. Factions were formed in Slytherin every day, and alliances were created. It was all political thought..
Harry had toppled Fawley and did not want to take his place and did not form his owl alliance.
That made him very unusual in Slytherin.
Daphne admired what he had done so far though.
Harry is the son of a pureblood father and a muggleborn mother, making him a half-blood who's supposedly inferior to purebloods but Daphne didn't believe that anyone could look at Harry, talk to Harry, know Harry and consider him inferior in any way
Soon Schnider started to speak when he noticed the Defense Against the Dark Arts Book that Harry was reading.
"You seem to be pretty good at that stuff"He observed.
Harry shrugged.
"I dont find it too difficult"He said.
"Would it be ok if we studied with you?"Spender asked.
"Sure"Harry said "Would you be ok with that Daph".
She nodded.
"Ok"Harry said "Now how are you lot doing on the Box Blasting Charm"
SCENE CHANGE
A few days later since it was the Valentines Day weekend Harry and Daphne decided to sneak into Hogsmede for the day.
In preparation for this Daphne had been working on getting a lot of Newt spleens,Bananas, orange snakes and green leafs the ingredients in the Aeging Potion.
She had been spending a lot of time brewing that particular potion.
And Harry already had experience getting into Hogsmede.
Soon early that morning Daphne followed Harry to a one-eyed witch statue by the stairs to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
And then Harry showed her a passage that would lead to the cellar of Honeydukes.
Harry tapped the hump with his wand and said "Dissendium" to the witch which made the hump on the statue open just wide enough for the two of them to slide down into the hidden passageway that leads down a short, cool stone slide.
The two of them went down the slide and landed in a very low, very narrow earthy passageway that twisted like a rabbit's burrow, that only rose after an hour or so and they reached a large, worn stone staircase after ten minutes of a steep ascent.
There where over two hundred steps on the staircase which surprised Daphne but soon they reached the trap door that led into the Honeydukes cellar.
Before they went in Daphne handed Harry a bit of Aeging Potion,
"Cheers"He said.
"Cheers"Daphne replied.
After a few minutes of uncomfortable Potion altering Harry and Daphne where looking just like how they would supposedly be like in their early 20s.
Wow.
If this was what they where going to look like in ten years or so that Daphne could not wait for them to grow into their older bodies.
Exeting the tunnel the two of them went into Honeydukes.
For her first time in Honeydukes Daphne found it to be quite a amazing store.
There were shelves upon shelves of the most succulent-looking sweets imaginable.
It was all just incredible.
Spending about a hour Honeydukes Harry and Daphne basically got everything they could find.
They got so much food and Afterwords they got all their treats wrapped where they went to the Hogsmede Post Office where Harry had sent Hedwig the previous day.
Hedwig was then able to take their treats back to Hogwarts.
After that and realizing that it was time to start heading back Harry and Daphne went back to Honeydukes where they where able to sneak back through the passageway that they used to get here.
Arriving back in Hogwarts just around the time that their Aeging Potion started to wear off Harry and Daphne rushed to the Owlery where they where able to get the packages that Hedwig had brought back to Hogwarts.
They then carried their packages back to the Slytherin Common Room where they brought them to Harrys room.
"Wow"Daphne said as they set everything down "I cant believe that worked".
Harry smiled and pulled out a Chocolate Frog that was of Hengist of Woodcroft.
Daphne then opened a Chocolate Cauldron and popped in her mouth before immediately regretting it as it seared her throat.
She looked at the description
Chocolate Cauldrons, they've got Firewhisky in them.
Harry laughed a little bit at that before he decided to have some Sugared Butterfly Wings.
He seemed to like those even if Daphne found the idea of eating Butterflys to be quite repulsive.
The fact that they had a shelf life of nearly eight hundred years though was quite impressive.
It was a testimony to the abilities of magic that food would be able to be preserved for that long.
Daphne didint think that she would want to be eating something that was made hundreds of years ago though even if magic preserved their shelflife to a absurd amount.
Afterall who would want to be eating candy that was originally made in the 1200s or something like that.
She would not trust that food.
Allthough she supposed people also drank liquor from a long time ago.
She was remembering her uncle talking about his Firewiskey that was over two hundred years old.
For some people that was a matter of pride.
She didint understand the value though.
For the rest of the night Harry and Daphne tried the sweats they got and found out what they liked and did not like.
What a nice February 14th it was today indeed.
