Chapter 25

September 1st 1990

England

Investigations continue into the break-in at Gringotts on 31 July, widely believed to be the work of Dark wizards or witches unknown. Gringotts goblins today insisted that nothing had been taken. The vault that was searched had in fact been emptied the same day. "But we're not telling you what was in there, so keep your noses out if you know what's good for you," said a Gringotts spokesgoblin this afternoon.

Believed to be the work of Dark wizards or witches unknown, Gringotts goblins, while acknowledging the breach, insist nothing was taken. The vault in question had, in fact, been emptied the very same day. "But we're not telling you what was in there, so keep your noses out if you know what's good for you", said a Gringotts spokesgoblin this afternoon. Gringotts now need to readdress their security system. Goblin security specialists are combing the land for a better breed of security dragon to replace the now deemed useless existing ones. They are even going as far as examining Muggle security systems. Gringotts need to get another security system in place before any more breaches occur. Wizards, witches all over the country are scratching their heads wondering how safe their money is in the so-called safest wizard bank. Head goblins are urging the wizarding community for calm.

Hmm.

Who could have broken into Gringotts.

He had been reading the Daily Prophet he had picked up ever since the Sorting Ceremony had ended and was really confused by the article.

Something to maby mention to Master Dao in a letter.

Harry looked up at the Head Table and saw Professor Snape talking to a man in an absurd turban.

"Do you know who that teacher is who's talking to Professsor Snape"He asked Daphne.

"Professor Quirrel"A voice came out of the seventh year Prefect Gemma Farley.

Harry nodded.

Soon their desserts disappeared and Professor Dumbledore got to his feet as the hall fell silent.

"Ahem just a few more words now that we are all fed and watered.I have a few start of term notices to give to you".

"First years should note that the forest on the grounds is forbidden to all a few of our older students would do well to remember that as well.

"I have also been asked by Mr Filch the caretaker to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors".

"Quidditch trials wll be held in the second week of the interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch".

"And finally,I must tell you that this year, the third floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death".

"He's not serious is he"He mutted to Daphne.

She shrugged.

"And now before we go to bed let us sing the school song"cried noticed that all of the teachers' smiles became rather forced.

Dumbledore gave his wand a little flick as if he was trying to get a fly off the end and a long golden ribbon flew out of it,which rose high above the tables and twisted itself like a snake into words.

"Everybody pick their favorite tune"said Dumbledore "and off we go".

And the school bellowed

Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,

Teach us something please,

Whether we be old and bald,

Or young with scabby knees,

Our heads could do with filling,

With some interesting stuff,

For now they're bare and full of air,

Dead flies and bits of fluff,

So teach us things worth knowing,

Bring back what we've forgot,

Just do your best, we'll do the rest,

And learn until our brains all rot.

And with that they went off to their Common Room.

SCENE CHANGE

The following Monday Harry and Daphne were on their way to their first Potions class of the year.

Professor Snape is gloomy and moody as usual..

"Alright, you insufferable lot," he says in his usual dark but velvety voice. "Take your seats, heat up your cauldrons and try not to ruin another lesson."

Daphne and Harry find their seats.

"Today you'll learn how to properly brew an Antidote for Uncommon Poisons," Professor Snape says. "Mr Potter!"

"Yes, sir?" Harry said.

"Explain how to obtain Chizpurfle Carapace," he says.

"Use Lumos Duo to lure the Chizpurfle towards a Venomous Tentacula plant," He said. "Once the plant has consumed the Chizpurfle, it will spit out the carapace. Then it can be collected."

"Correct," he says. "Now observe attentively while I explain all the steps."

Whew

Harry looked at Daphne.

Studying with her really has helped him in Potions.

Professor Snape then wrote all the steps on the blackboard, with emphasis on the proper amounts,

When Professor Snape finished his explanation, they started brewing their potions. Harry felt very confident while adding seven fire seeds, one at a time, just like was taught last year, my potion turning into a translucent green.

He turned and saw Daphne was looking the same.

"Wipe that smug, confident expression off your face, Mr Potter," Professor Snape says as he walks by his cauldron.

Harry rolled his eyes.

Professor Snape may not hate Harry as much as he does James Potter but they were definitely not each other's best friend.

SCENE CHANGE

History of Magic is dull as usual, though the subject is actually quite interesting: The Witch Hunts. Harry was sitting between Edmund, who looked like he was about to fall asleep, and Daphne, who was actually reading about Boggarts in her Dark Arts textbook.

Harrys mind was wandering

They had a full lecture about Animagi during Transfiguration, though they would not actually learn how to become one. Professor McGonagall even turned into a big green eyed cat, with round marks where her glasses should be, rising excited gasps from the students.

Except from Daphne and Harry who just looked at each other.

They would have to make sure not to give Professor McGonogal any thought that they knew any more about Animagus than the ordinary person.

After all Harry and Daphne where unregistered Animagus.

Their Ancient Runes' teacher Bathsheda Babbling was very intersting. She seemed to bear a big scowl upon her face, like she's permanently judging you. Apart from all that, her lesson was quite stimulating. By the end of her lesson, Harry had quite a few pages full of intricate drawings of runes and their meanings, along with a bunch of runes they are supposed to research for homework.

Defense against the Dark Arts this year was a real disappointment.

Professor Quirrels lessons where a classroom smelled strongly of garlic, which he said was to ward off a vampire he had met in Romania and was afraid would be coming back to get him one of these turban he told tem had been given to him by a African Prince as a thank you for getting rid of a troublesome zombie but Harry wasnt sure if he believed his story or not.

After all, when one of the Hufflepuffs had asked to hear how Quirrell had fought off the zombie,Quirrel had gone pink and started talking about the weather.

Which was sad.

Harry would have loved to learn some things about fighting from Professor Quirrel.

Harrys thoughts were mainly now over the summer and his lessons over the three Cs Chi,Chakras and Conditioning.

He had been able to work the new exercises into his early morning workout routine that he had established over the past two years to practice martial arts.

During class then he was also looking down at a list of instructions that Master Dao had sent him to work on for this year.

As Harry finished looking over the list he started to think of when he could start practicing these techniques and incorporating them into his training.

SCENE CHANGE
Harry walked early Wendsday Morning on his way to the school kitchens to see if the house elves would let him cook there and give him the food he would require.

He had been having bad dreams and he knew that while he had been trying to figure them out he had been out of it.

And Daphne had noticed.

Not wanting to talk yet about what had been in his dreams he had asked her on a date.

Which considering they had been dating for six months now was something that he probably should have thought of beforehand.

He now had to find out what to do for his date though.

When he entered the kitchen one of the elfs immediately noticed him and quickly hurried over to where he was standing.

"What would the misters need for visiting here?" The elf asked in excitement.

Harry said, " I have a question for you. I was wondering if I could use the kitchens here to make some food for a date I have?"

"Mister is courting?" Krafty asked.

"Yes," Harry answered.

"Krafty would be happy to make food for Young Mister's date," Krafty replied.

"I was actually planning on making food for it myself," Harry informed him.

Krafty looked practically scandalized, "It is not proper for a wizard to make food himself when a house elf can do it."

He was a bit torn as it would be more special for Daphne if he made it, but he supposed if he let Krafty cover this part it would give him more time to plan the rest of the date.

"All right," Harry agreed, "so I was also wondering if you knew of any good places to have a date."

The elf's eyes lit up as he said, "Actually Krafty knows of a place, super special and secret that only us house elves know about. It's called the Come and Go Room or the Room of Requirement and the room gives you anything you want to be inside it. Krafty can show you right where it is."

Harry followed Krafty over to wherever this special room was.

When he got there, it seemed to be just a blank wall, after being told about how to activate the room by Krafty he thought to himself, "I want a room that is perfect for eating a semi-romantic dinner and anything else that would be good for a date."

As the door finally appeared, he opened it to find a room that looked just like a dance hall, or at least what he would have guessed a dance hall was supposed to look like.

The room had dim lighting but with a certain brighter light illuminating the back of the room where a small table with candles already lit lying on it stood.

Romantic sounding jazz music emanated through the room.

Dancing

Hmm

That would be an interesting thing for a date.

He smiled and said, "This is perfect Krafty!"

Krafty looked somewhat bashful at the compliment and said, "It was nothing."

This would save him a ridiculous amount of time on fixing up a date.

"Even so, you're a lifesaver," Harry declared.

He couldn't wait to have his date in here!

SCENE CHANGE

Just before 7 the next night he was sitting and waiting for Daphne to get out of her room so they could go for their date.

He was nervously going through how he was going to go through with the date.

Remembering to make small talk, be courteous, nice, and complementary, avoid belching, tell jokes

But what if she did not laugh at his what do I do?

Harry tried to then calm himself down.

He had been friends with Daphne for seven years now there was nothing to worry about.

Even if he made an arse of himself she would not say anything he was sure.

As Harry was stressing over things, he almost didn't even notice when Daphne finally came out..

"I'm ready," She announced.

As he looked over at the sound of her voice, he stared in shock at just how good Daphne looked.

She was wearing a formal white evening gown that contrasted very well with her skin and revealed just a hint of her cleavage.

Her beautiful blonde hair was let loose and cascaded down well past her bum, making Harry blush as he noticed that her rather nice looking bum showed off quite well in the white dress.

"Well how do I look?" She asked as he still stared at her.

"You look hot!" Harry replied, before blushing at what he'd said.

She blushed too and said, "Thanks, you look rather hot too Harry."

"Sorry," Harry apologized after standing there trying to think of what he was supposed to do next, "can I take your arm?"

She offered it to him, quite pleased at the gentlemanly gesture and they headed off.

After a minute she said, "You know, you don't have to feel so nervous Harry. I know this is your first date and it's mine as well, we'll probably end up making plenty of mistakes, so just don't worry about it."

He tried to relax as he tried to think up a conversation to start with her, but now that he was in such close proximity to her, it seemed his mind had gone completely blank. Come on, think of something he told himself...

Harry saw a lot of the Slytherins as they left the Common Room looking at them.

Thankfully none said anything after what had happened to Fawley.

He tried saying something at the same time that Daphne did.

They both blushed.

"I'm sorry, I'm just really nervous," Harry admitted.

"Trust me, I'm nervous too Harry," She confided, giving his arm a squeeze "But you know we have known each other for so long now that we really shouldnt be nervous around each other".

Harry nodded

They soon decided to start up a conversation about their classes and how the Weasley Twins had been helping them with Fawley.

When they finally got to the Room of Requirement, the two of them were laughing about various items like they had been doing together for years.

As they entered the room however, Daphne's breath was taken away as she stared around in wonder.

"Harry!" Daphne exclaimed, "this is amazing!"

"An amazing place for an amazing girl," Harry replied, very pleased to see her thrilled reaction.

Yes! Score one point for him! He thought,

He guided her over to their table yet with their food on it and they both sat down.

"So what are our plans for the evening?" She asked.

"I thought we'd start out with dinner and then practice dancing afterwards," He suggested.

Harry then opened the plates to show all of the foods that he knew that Daphne really liked.

Most of which were vegetables and the like.

Daphne was not much of a meat person.

And Harry liked a lot of the same foods anyhow.

It was really good food, and he made a note to thank the elfs.

He enjoyed just talking with Daphne, his best friend and his girlfriend.

"So would you like to dance now?" He suggested, when both of them had already finished eating.

She nodded and he went and took her hand before going out onto the floor area that was meant for dancing.

He was not much of a good dancer but neither was Daphne.

Thankfully the room provided a book on that.

Begin by tapping your right heel forward twice. On the first two beats of the chorus, stick your right foot out and tap the ground with the bottom of the heel twice. Your taps should line up with the beat of the song. Rest your hands on your hips or in your pockets.

Tap your right foot behind your body twice. On the next two beats of the chorus, put your right foot behind you and tap the ground with your toe twice.

Tap your right foot to the side and bring your right heel across and in front of your body. For the next two beats of the song, you will perform a scooping motion across the front of your body with your right leg. Tap your right foot beside your body (beat one), before touching your right foot with your left hand (beat two).

Tap your right foot to the side, and bring your right heel across and behind your body. For the following two beats, you will perform the same scooping motion behind your body. Tap your right foot beside your body again (beat one), before reaching back to touch your right foot with your left hand (beat two).

Altogether, these first four moves make up the first 8 beats of the dance.

Perform a four count grapevine to the right. For the next four beats, shuffle your body to the right by doing a grapevine move with your feet. Step your right foot to the side, step your left foot behind your right, step your right foot to the side again, and step your left foot together with your right. Clap your hands on the fourth beat of this move, when your two feet come together.

Take four side steps to the left while spinning your body. For the final four beats of the song, take four small side steps while turning your body 90 degrees with each step. In this move, you'll return to your original position on the dance floor while rotating your body a full 360 degrees. As you move your feet in a sideways shuffle on the beat - left, right, left, right - turn your body in a circle to the right as well.

These previous two steps make up the second 8 beats of the dance. One entire round of this dance is 16 beats long.

Swing your right arm overhead for the last four counts of the dance. As you spin your body and move to the left, keep your left hand on your hip while pretending you are swinging a lasso overhead with your right arm.

Repeat these moves, but lead with your left foot. As the song continues, these same 16-count dance moves keep repeating, but they'll alternate sides every time. When you lead with your left foot, you'll perform your grapevine to the left as well.

Harry laughed.

"This is a American song"He said "Cotton Eye Joe".

Daphne grinned "Lets try it".

The next hour or so was spent trying to do the dance.

Harry did better because of his Martial Arts training but they both needed work.

Harry was happy

He could tell Daphne was really enjoying herself and he was too. She really was a great girl and every day he was glad he was her just looking into her beautiful eyes and at her face..it was just magical.

By the end of the date, they were both exhausted from dancing, but they were both feeling significantly more confident about their dancing abilities.

The two of them went back to the Slytherin Common Room where Daphne got ready to go back to her room to get undressed and ready to go to bed.

"I had a lot of fun Harry," Daphne said softly.

"So did I," Harry answered, "maybe we could do this again sometime."

Smiling, she said, "I'd really like that Harry."

He wasn't really sure what to do next, whether he was supposed to just wave goodbye or whatever, but to his amazement, Daphne leaned in and kissed him.

It was only for a second, but he still felt it all through his body. It felt really nice, good even and caused his heart to flutter.

Pulling away, she gave him one last glorious smile and then slipped inside her room, leaving him alone to go back to his room with his thoughts.

He was ecstatic about how today had turned out.

Daphne and Harry had finally gone on their first date as a couple and he loved it.

And the Room of Requirment was a nice place as well.

They would definitely have to use that in the future.
