A/N: okay this is the last chapter of Newly Mated I'll be writing This Was Never Supposed To Happen until the tenth after that I'll start writing unless no one voted because I have no idea which of the three situation I want. just so you know oculus langlock isn't a real harry potter spell langlock is the spell for gluing the tounge to roof of someone's mouth and I just added oculus. I have no idea how to spell pompfrey so sorry if it's wrong and also for those who voted for this specific fic it tied meaning someone chose snakes and someone choose a basilisk so I ended up merging things together.
Willa's Point of View
"Alright everyone, quiet down." Aberforth said, "For the competition there are two transfigurations. Porcupine to pincushion and turning things into birds. You have thirty minutes to transform the porcupine, and transfigure three birds, the first one to transfigure the things successfully, will win the competition."
In my mind, the easiest of the two transfigurations would be avifors, or turning random objects into birds. Because of this I started on that first. It was easier, because for porcupine to pincushion you would need at least some form of trust, as it was much easier to transfigure a willing target.
"Avifors!" I said making a sideways figure eight. the blue light changed one of the three pieces of wood into a bird, it was yellow and looked a bit like a parrot, "Avifors! Avifors!" I said repeating the motion. Now, I had three birds and a porcupine, oddly it sounded like the start of a fury's bedtime story.
Either way, I started to gain the trust of the porcupine by giving it some corn on the cob from the great hall. I don't think anyone else thought to bring food to gain trust, not even the Ravenclaw. Of course, I knew I would still need some time to gain it's trust… or train it.
So every time before I put out another piece of corn, I started saying hystrifors. Which was the incantation, without actually casting the spell. My hope was that it would make the porcupine think that the spell was good, or at least associate it with its favorite food.
I spent around fifteen minutes doing this before I thought the porcupine knew the drill. They were very smart after all, and probably would have caught on by now, "Hystrifors!" I said, actually using the spell and it turned into a pincushion, "Congratulations lily you've won."
William's Point of View
Of course, after the transfiguration competition, I decided to go study for the potions exam before the day was out. Apparently, everyone else had a similar idea, so me and lily went to the Slytherin common room while teddy and Mary went back to the Gryffindor common room.
Cristian wanted to study outside for some reason, so I jokingly said, "If your potion starts exploding run." before leaving.
Now I was in my dorm room. It was around eight, but I could stay up a bit more for studying. Lily had actually already fallen asleep and was snoozing away in her dorm room. I continued studying and after what felt like an hour, I checked the time, 9:08.
Will! Hmm? I think Cristian's in trouble. Now that I wasn't focused on studying, I could feel her fear. She rerun what it felt like a few seconds prior which actually caused her fear. Cristian had been afraid, and it wasn't the kind of fear you get from seeing a spider. This was the kind that released adrenalin to help in a life threating situation.
The fact the fear wasn't still there was a bit worrying, but usually a mate would know if their mate had died, so I had the feeling he was still alive, if only unconscious. Meet me in the common room in two seconds.
Two seconds later, I was in the common room, and lily was too of course. We did get some stares from people both scared of how fast we just moved, and or why we were going outside so close to curfew. We ignored them, and a few seconds later we were at the transfiguration classroom.
It was the last place we had seen Cristian, so it would be helpful to use the trail he had left earlier that day. I had to say, it was a good thing I had gotten those lessons from Demetri last year on tracking. Because otherwise I wasn't sure if I would have found his trail, it was covered with other peoples.
Another few seconds later and we were standing over a petrified Cristian. He was looking into his reflective potion. It was a basilisk who petrified him, the parslamouth and or just the basilisk had seemed to use the twenty-two seconds it took for us to get here, to escape.
Lily, of course was angry and seeing red. It sort of made me afraid to stand right next to her, "How about this? I go call dad tell him what happened, then I go and tell McGonagall what happened?" I realized that the situation was delicate, so making sure that lily stayed with Cristian was the best idea right now.
"Oh hello!" Someone said before lily could respond. Looking towards who said it, I could see it was Mrs. Finnegan, "Oh my." She said taking in the scene, "Is he alright?" I had to send calming thoughts to lily so that she didn't just growl at her. You don't just ask a vampire if their mate is okay, if there clearly in need of medical attention, or hospitalized, unless you want to die.
"No," I said matter of factly. Trying to keep lily's angry thoughts from infecting mine, as sometimes emotions could be contagious if there high enough in level. Like interest, or obsession, or in this case anger, "Um, we should probably get him to the hospital wing then." That sounded about right, and before she could cast any spells I said, "You probably shouldn't do that." She looked confused at me "why?"
"Because right now she'll perceive any spell sent at her or Cristian as a threat." Ms. Finnegan was still looking at me questioningly, "Lily and Cristian are mates, you probably shouldn't get close or cast spells in her general vicinity. Have her do it."
Some lessons on vampires were available to the wizarding public, but there was a lot that the wizarding public did not know, and I was hoping that the limited amount of knowledge about mates was able to convince her to follow my advice, "Um, does she know how to conjure a stretcher?" I nodded, "Okay, I guess it doesn't matter who conjures the stretcher then." Lily conjured a stretcher and used wingardium leviosa to put Cristian in it and lift it off the ground.
I guess we were going to go to the hospital wing. We would have to call dad soon though you really can't attack a Volturi and get away with it, and his gift would help figure out who did it.
By the time the three of us had walked to the hospital wing, lily had calmed down somewhat enough to probably have a coherent conversation without throwing something. Surprisingly McGonagall was there, "Why are the two of you out of be-" I think that this was when she saw the stretcher with a petrified Cristian, "Oh my, set him down right here."
After setting him down lily went to sit at his bedside, "What happened?" I honestly felt like bashing my head against the crème-colored walls. This was the fourth time this year I was being questioned by McGonagall, and hopefully the last.
"I was studying, and lily was sleeping, then she felt some of Cristian fear, and because of that we decided to find him." She looked like she was about to ask about the 'felt some of his fear' part, so I just explained, "Mates can feel some things, like physical, mental, and emotional pain from their mates." And now she looked like she was going to ask about the mate comment, "And basically, we found him and then Mrs. Finnegan found us. Now we're here."
Madme pompfrey was going over to Cristian to check on him, and thankfully lily was mentally there enough to realize she was only trying to help, but she watched her like a hawk the whole time, "Also, I would not suggest messing with lily right now, she calmed down slightly since what just happened, but she's still likely to throw something at you, or perform some other act of aggression if you mess with her." I waited to see if there were any questions that McGonagall had. I think I covered everything after that bit.
"Are you any closer to finding the basilisk or the parslamouth?" She shook her head, "No, I think we might have to check the chamber. Though we would need a parslamouth to enter it. I'm not a fan of student endangerment but…" She was asking me if I would open the chamber of secrets.
"I'll do it," I said, knowing lily wasn't in any state to open it, "but I need to call my father first. He needs to know what's happened." And now she looked confused again. I pulled out the phone I had grabbed earlier from my room knowing that I would have to use it should something have happened to Cristian, "If I get a few miles out from Hogwarts it'll work."
I left to call dad, I forget if the time difference was forward or backward, but mom would be there to if it were backward, or if she had stayed up late, *The sound of a line trilling* Will, isn't it about nine twenty there? Why are you calling? "Well, long story short. Cristian's been attacked by a basilisk, lily is still a bit aggression prone, though she's calmed down a bit, and I'm going to go and open the chamber of secrets."
Sometimes it's easiest to just say it and get it out. There was silence for a few seconds, What?! "Exactly what I said." Hey Aro- wait who's on the phone? It sounded like mom. Well, I knew I wasn't going to the chamber of secrets now. Will, why are you calling when it's so close to curfew? I repeated what I told dad.
No way! Wait, I'll be right over at the school, and I'll open it so that they can check there. Well, that's a definite no, "Alright, I'll go back now. Is there any advice for dealing with lily right now?" There's not much you can do in this situation, but I would suggest not separating the two of them. Mates do stupid things when their mate is dead or have any form of injury.
"Thanks." I said, before ending the call and running back to the hospital wing. McGonagall seemed surprised. Probably because I got back so fast, I remembered that wizards don't know how fast vampires are, "Okay, so I called, and my mom said that she would come over and open the chamber. Also, telling me not too, so you're probably going to have to wait for a few hours to a day to open the chamber."
McGonagall rubbed her temples, she seemed like she had just wanted this all over with, "Understood, however I think the both of you need to get to bed then." Lily just held Cristin's hand tighter after she heard that. She wasn't going to be leaving anytime soon, at least not in her own free will.
"Can you make an exception for lily? She doesn't look ready to separate from Cristian yet." McGonagall sighed, "That would be for madam pompfrey to decide." Looking at madam pompfrey she said, "She can visit tomorrow. Besides, I can't take care of him with her staring at me."
Well, I was going to have to wrestle her out of the hospital wing then. This did not sound fun at all. First, she was growling at me, and then after I pulled her out of the hospital wing she was crying and trying to use puppy dog eyes to get me to let her go, but I still continued pulling her, "Look, I understand how you feel, but you need to calm down. He's going to be okay after the restoration draught, which will be finished in like five days."
"But that's way too long! And I don't want to leave him! Let me go!" Well, at least she's using full sentences. She was using fragments before, "Calm down, he's fine." I said pulling her into a hug she looked like she needed it.
We ended up hugging for about five minutes until she said, "fine! I'll go back to bed! But I don't have to like it!" And she wiped her tears. A few seconds later, we entered the common room. There were some people still studying for there potions exam, but most realized that they would need a good nights sleep, and went up to their dorms already. Those that remained looked at us questioningly again. We had come back after curfew, so I could understand the sentiment. She went to her room, and I went to mine, getting to go to sleep would be great.
Willa's Point of View
It was about twelve a clock, or at least that's what the clock in my dorm room said. Will seemed to be asleep, dreaming about dolphins again, so I decided that this was the chance I was waiting for. I really couldn't bare the idea that the basilisk that petrified Cristian was still alive. It needed to die, and with that, I entered the common room.
No one should be here because it was midnight and there was a potion's final tomorrow. I reached the portrait when I heard someone say, "Well where are you going?" It was will shit, "it's funny how near-sighted sneaking out of a common room makes you. Do you realize that this is dangerous?"
"You're not going to stop me." I replied, I was leaving, and slaying that basilisk. When then morning came later, I would spend my time with Cristian until the restorative was brewed, "You didn't answer my question. Do you realize that this is dangerous? That mom and dad said not to go?"
Crossing my arms, I said, "Of course I remember, and I know it's dangerous, but you're not stopping me!" I started to open the portrait when he came up and grabbed my hand, stopping it from opening the portrait any further.
"I never said that I was going to stop you, I just wanted to know that you knew this was dangerous." I threw his hand off mine, "You're not coming with me." I insisted. He would just try to get me to stop, "Yes, I am, you're going to need help. Did you even research a spell to help with the death glare?"
"Were calling it a death glare now?!" I said a bit outraged. I really didn't appreciate will making his witty quips right now, "Shh, people are asleep. I'll let you leave, but I'm coming as backup. Choose, it's either we both go, or neither of us go." I knew will could wrestle me anywhere, "Fine, but you better not try to get me to stop."
After that conversation, the two of us went through the empty corridors. Will hadn't spoken a word about going back, so here we were in moaning myrtle's bathroom. Moaning myrtle was nowhere to be seen, so it would be easy sneaking into the chamber of secrets to kill that thing.
"Before we go down there," Was he going to tell me to reconsider?! "There's a spell to keep the basilisk's eyes closed, it's oculus langlock." Oh, it was just the spell he researched, "I already gave you an ultimatum, and you chose. I told you I'm not going to stop you."
Well that's wonderful to know. I tried saying open in parslatongue, "Open!" And it didn't work, so I tried again, "Open!" I honestly wasn't sure if I was speaking parslatongue and the chamber just wasn't working, or if I wasn't speaking parslatongue. Probably the latter.
"Open! Open! Open! Open!" It finally opened. The way I managed it was imagining a snake. I guess snakes were the key to speaking parslatongue. Which made sense, because if they didn't exist, neither would parslatongue.
"Are you ready?" I asked him, "Yes, though I never thought I would be entering the chamber of secrets because my sister's boyfriend was petrified by a basilisk." I was about to lecture him about his witty quips again, when I felt the worry that will covered up when Cristian was first petrified. It made me feel bad for everything I've put him through tonight. We might not get back at all, and if we do, will would be really tired for his potions exam.
"Lily, you said you wanted to do this, and honestly, I feel like getting back at the person who did this to Cristian too." Best. Brother. Ever, "Thanks." I said before sliding into the chamber of secrets, "Okay, I'm out of the way!" I shouted up to him even though he would have heard if I just said it.
He came down soon after. There were a bunch of bones and some shedded skin here, so that broke any fall from the slide either of us might have had. One thing I noticed about it, was that it looked fresh. Some of them looked old, touched by decay, but the others looked a lot like when snowy first sheds.
"Will, I think we were right about the basilisk being down here." Of course, he could see them himself, but I just pointed it out.
We walked into the corridor that had been flooded in the battle of Hogwarts. The first thing I noticed, was that it certainly didn't look flooded anymore. The second thing was that there was a person in the chamber, so this was who the parslamouth was?! I was trying not to see red because I knew I needed to keep a level head.
"Oh, look! It's the two Volturi's!" When she turned around, I could see her face. It was Ms. Finnigan. Ms. Finnigan was the parslamouth!? The reason Cristian was in the hospital wing right now! Looking back, there was a lot of suspicious things. Like the fact that she ended up being in position to vanish the snake when will found it. Or how she showed up right after the attacks, and I let her stand ten feet away from Cristian! I didn't know it at the time, but still.
"You know, I actually expected you to come down here, I guess I was right." The only thing I didn't get was why she attacked people in the first place. It wasn't connected to blood purity as far as I knew. Mark lancer was a halfblood, and Cristian was a pureblood.
"Why did you attack mark then? Wouldn't it have been easier to just attack Cristian and lure us out that way?" Will and I thought that it had something to do with attacking us, "Oh, well, that's easy. It was because I was trying to attack you both!" Called it.
"Mark just got in the way. After that of course, I had to throw off some suspicion and give it to someone else. To my surprise the both of you are parslamouths." I really don't understand. Why is this woman trying to kill us?
"It was quite easy to set the snake on you school enemy, but then McGonagall decided to believe you and I had to hide for a little while to plan my next move. It was after Christmas break that I noticed that you lily act quite differently with Cristian."
"You've even kissed him outside my classroom, do you remember that?" I did, but I didn't think anyone was watching, "So the plan came to me, I would petrify Cristian. Oh, poor Cristian, and since McGonagall putting her trust so misguidedly in me. I would keep her out of the chamber until then, telling her that she couldn't endanger you two to try and kill a basilisk she didn't know was in the chamber."
"You may ask now, why you two? Why attack you two? It's quite simple when I was younger and naïve. I was playing with my brother, and then a vampire came and killed him. You're going to die, I'm going to avenge his death, and what better way to avenge his death than killing one of the Volturi?"
She took a breath, "So this is how I'm going to do it. You know I have a basilisk, but well… you don't know that it's just Animagus form. You can't convince me to stop like you might be able to for snakes." After that, she started turning into her Animagus form.
"Oculus langlock!" Will said making a downwards motion and it hit her. The basilisk she turned into had basically no way of seeing us or using her death glare now, "What have you done?!" Well, that was effective, but now how do we kill it?
It took a sword to the brain for the basilisk mom faced. I've got it covered, "Sectumsempra!" I'm sorry whaaa? Sectumsempra, remember? It causes bleeding and the wound cant be closed without the counter curse. We literally only need to wait and hide until she bleeds to death. Looking at her, I could see Ms. Finnegan was bleeding in an unhealthy way. Isn't all bleeding unhealthy lily? Yes will, all bleeding is unhealthy, but this kind is particularly unhealthy.
Ms. Finnegan had recovered from the pain. She was still bleeding though, when she slithered forward to where will said sectumsempra. Will moved away, avoiding it. Having vampire speed made things considerably easier to dodge.
After a few minutes of dodging, I started to hear heartbeats. Oh, great, mom was here, and probably dad, we were so grounded, "Lily, will? What are you doing down here?" Um, avoiding being killed by a basilisk maybe? But that was just a guess.
Demetri and Felix were immediately at our sides and dad used a sword to pierce the skull and brain. At least we no longer had to wait for her to bleed to death, "Willa Hermione Volturi, William Felix Volturi, come here right now!" It was mom and she looked and sounded angry. Dad covered with blood, of course went to stand next to her.
When I reached mom, I looked at dad and said, "Great work." And smiled, "Do you know how much trouble you're in?" Mom asked, "Yes, and before you give any groundings out, take into consideration that will didn't want to be here."
She sighed, "I really don't care if he wanted to be here or not. You both came here knowing that it was dangerous and risked your lives after knowing I said not too. You're both grounded, and I'll figure out for how long later." McGonagall was just standing there her face drained from its usual color. I wasn't sure if it was seeing a basilisk, or seeing dad kill it, or if it was that he just acted like nothing even happened that triggered it.
(Time Skip)
It five days after dad killed the basilisk/Ms. Finnegan, and I was waiting for the potion they just gave Cristian to take effect. Most of the school tests were over and we could actually go home 'if the parent or guardian had a good reason'. Or at least that's how McGonagall said it to mom and dad five days ago. I could still remember that night.
We were sitting in McGonagall's office. Dad still had blood on his shirt, but it had started drying, "So can you tell us what happened down there?" McGonagall didn't know about dad's gift, so we were doing this the hard way, "After I was told to leave the hospital wing I decided to go down to the chamber of secrets."
Dad cut me off there, "Wait, she was told to leave the hospital wing?" He sounded a bit condescending, "Her choice makes a lot more sense then." And McGonagall is looking confused once again, "pardon me, but I don't see how her leaving the hospital wing caused her decision to enter the chamber of secrets!"
He sighed, "There are two things that happen when a mate is attacked. The instinct to protect, and the instinct to attack, depending on the situation. Basically, when she was away from the hospital wing, she had no real ability to protect him, so she attacked." I continued where I left off, "Basically, I was leaving the common room when will said he was going to come with me to make sure I didn't die."
"He should have prevented you from leaving in the first place." McGonagall said. Okay, understood, I continued on after being interrupted once again, "When we got there, we saw Ms. Finnegan." McGonagall's nostrils flared, "And she didn't stop you?!" Again, I continued on, "She was the parslamouth, or technically Animagus. That basilisk was her."
McGonagall looked stunned, and wasn't interrupting, so I managed to finish, "She told us basically about her plan to kill us because her brother was killed by a vampire. I don't think she realized that killing witches and wizards unless being attacked by them first, was illegal, and that the vampire was probably dead anyway. She's dead now, dyeing from a stabbed brain and too much blood loss."
"Lily?" I looked at him. He was twitching, which meant it was working. He should be at full motor capacity soon, "I missed you so much! You've been petrified for like five days and another night! You missed you potions exam, but you'll get the chance to take it later."
He laughed a bit, "Can we not talk about the impending schoolwork I have yet to complete?" I feigned mock boredom as I said, "Fine," And then I perked up again as I asked, "So how did it feel to be petrified?" He smiled, "It was weird, and I'm completely sore!" Wow, he's starting to sound like teddy with all the dramatics.
Well speak of the devil and he shall appear, "Hey teddy." He was there with will and Mary, "Hey lily, Cristian. Your mom says that you guys get to go home early?" He wanted details which is understandable, "Basically, yes, once Cristian takes his potions exam, we should be able to go home."
