Chapter 1: Early Life

As the mother of Severus I feel it my responsibility to tell you the real tale of my incredible son's life.

Severus was born on January 9th, 1960 at St. Mungo's Hospital in London. After 6 hours of hard labor I had a beautiful baby boy who was the delight of our lives. My husband Tobias was ecstatic and happy; he was so excited to have a son, and couldn't take his eyes off of him. He decided to name him after a Roman senator named Severus who was born in 145 A.D. Soon after his birth we took little Severus home to Spinner's end; a poor neighborhood in the village of Cokeworth.

At first our home life was wonderful, Tobias smiled all the time, loved telling jokes, and inviting friends to the house. But that all changed when our little boy began showing signs of being a wizard.

It was the day after his 2nd birthday, when he showed his ability, by levitating the chair his father was sitting in. At first my husband refused to believe it, saying that it was I who had done it. Sadly, weeks passed and everyday our young son continued to demonstrate his new found abilities. Finally, Tobias accepted that his son was a wizard, but their relationship would never be the same. Now it was Severus and me against him.

Chapter 2: A Family at Odds.

In early September 1969, Severus, a strong and willful child stood by my side watching his cousin, Charles, step onto the train which took take him to Hogwarts. He looked up at me and wanted to know when he'd be going. I told him as soon as he got the letter. I'll admit it I hoped it would be sooner than later, Severus was becoming something of a nuisance lately, he was beginning to see me as a nagging mother and his father as a nobody. Yes, Tobias and I fought constantly now, but most of our fights centered around Sevi. One day he'd be good, and the next three he's be awful. Yes, Hogwarts would be a good place for him.

Don't worry! I made sure my baby was prepared for life at the ancient school, and made sure he knew every main ingredient to all the most important potions. I also taught him spells, hexes, jinxes, curses, and anything else that night be useful. During those times I felt closer to him; it was a great time to bond with him. He especially loved going around the house with me killing rats, mice, and insects using the killing curse, Avada Kedavra. Yes, he was ready, but his letter had come much earlier than I had thought. Severus had just turned 10, and he received his letter only 2 weeks after his birthday. His father, was enraged, and walked out of the house yelling obscenities . Needless to say, it was a very bad week.

Chapter 3: Diagon Alley

As we entered the small village of Diagon Alley, my 10 year old's eyes lit up on everything he saw. It was the first time he had ever been here, and he wanted to see everything; I almost had to lock him to my side with a spell to keep him from wandering off.

The first place we went was to Flourish and Blotts to get his books. Thankfully, his father, like me, wanted our son to have the best, and gave me enough money for all his books, and a few more. We were very poor, but Tobias, like most men had an ego the size of Manhattan, and didn't want anyone saying his son wasn't prepared for school. Sevi picked out 3 extra books that surprised me, because I never knew he was interested in those things. One was the biography of 'Alexandra Deadbolt', a witch who had killed her own family, when she discovered they had destroyed a number of Muggles in town. The next was, 'American Potions: What they can teach us', and the last was, 'Gellert Grindelwald: A man of action or a Menace ? '. So, with his bundle stuffed with books we walked out of the store smiling at each other.

Chapter 4: Home and a New Friend.

Walking through the door of our house we were met by Sevi's father who wanted to know about our day. After telling him what we did, he walked over, looked down at our son touched the back of his head, and walked out the door. I knew he was sad! I knew he could see his son 's love for him dwindling, as Severus bonded more and more with me, over our shared wizarding abilities. It wasn't that my husband was abusive to Severus over this, he was simply getting colder towards him and me. And as time went by it only got worse. Thankfully, a sweet little girl came into Sevi's life name Lily Evans, and the next 6 weeks, until the start of school, they played together all the time .

Severus was enthralled with the red headed little girl .She came from a Muggle family, and lived 6 blocks down the street in a more affluent neighborhood. He would often tell me how wonderful and bright she was, his voice cracking as he spoke. I tried not to laugh as the evidence that his voice was changing became evident. Yes, my baby was turning into a man, and soon he'd be off to school. I was so excited for him, that I didn't take time to consider how much I'd miss him. He'd be gone for a long time each semester; I'd only get to see him on holidays, and knowing this made my heart sink. I just had to do something special for him!

Chapter 5: A Wonderful Gift.

My own mother had died when I was very little, and the only thing I remember about her was how beautiful she was. She didn't seem to walk as normal people , but seemed to glide as movie stars do. And like them her smile could lighten up a room. To me she was everything, but my memories of her were few and far between. However, she did leave me her wand. It was from the American wand maker, Violetta Beauvais, the famous wandmaker of New Orleans. And it was powerful! So, powerful I had kept it a secret from my son, because I knew he'd want it. I wished so bad he'd have had a relationship with her; I'm sure they would have loved each other greatly. Her name was Queenie Goldstein, she had been married before to a Muggle named Jacob Kowalski, who had been killed by the dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald early in their marriage. My father met her about 4 months after the funeral, and they hit it off right away. I was born 13 months later, and my brother Eustus a year after that.

I now held her wand in my hand turning it back and forth trying hard to remember a face lost to me in time. Walking out the door of my closet, and out of my room, I went down to Severus who was downstairs watching the Flintstones; the only Muggle show he liked. I yelled at him to shut the tv off, and come over to me; I wanted to give him something. He turned the tv off, got up reluctantly, stretched and came over to me. We went into the kitchen, sat down and I told him about his American Granny. He looked at me with a surprised look on his face, and wanted to know more about the wand. I carefully handed it over to him, afraid it might reject him, and said to give it a whirl. He reached his little arm back and yelled out 'Alohomora', and a bright burst of light erupted from the black wand with the pearl handle; it was as if the wand was made for him. We both smiled knowing it was perfect. " Now Sevi, I said, take care of this wand it's a family heirloom." I will he said, but then frowned a bit and said, " Do I have to keep the pearl handle ? It's so girly!" " No! Just snap off the handle, I said, but be careful, it's very old, and so carefully he snapped the handle off revealing just a normal ridged handle. Three weeks later my son was at school, sorted into my house, Slytherin, and the rest of his life you already know. But I will leave you with just one more chapter to let you in on a few things about myself, and what happened to Tobias and me when ' He who must not be named' came into our lives.

Chapter 6: Afterword

After the death of Lily Evans-Potter, her husband James ( a man I still despise because of his ill treatment of my son), and the attack on the Longbottoms. Severus decided to protect his father and me by erasing our memories of magic, and of him. He then sent us to live in Connecticut. The next 17 years I lived as a Muggle, unaware of magic, or my son.

When Severus was killed by Voldemort, all of his spells died with him, and our memories returned. Shocked to find ourselves so far from home, but knowing how much we loved Connecticut, and how close we had become; Tobias and I decided to give up going back to England. There was nothing there for us anymore. Our magnificent son was gone.
As I conclude this book, I look over at my husband and see him holding a picture of Severus; I look closer and see a tear fall from his eyes.

'Oh! Severus my son I wish I had taken the time to know you better.
