Chapter 17: Reconcile
Bash and I sit down in our chambers, me dressing Bash's cuts and bruises. "What happened out there?" I ask, soaking up the blood on his arm wound. "You left and they closed in. We tried to reason with them. But they had the upper hand and took advantage of it. We had to do what we had to do." he says. Bash leans in to kiss me, which I gladly accept. "You could have been killed. We have only been married for a short while. I can't live without you, I won't." I say, placing a loving hand on his cheek.
The door opens beside us, we both turn. Francis walks in, his shaggy white shirt hanging limp from his shoulders. "I wanted to thank you both. Without either of you, I would have died under that ice," he says. Bash stands up and both brothers embrace. I follow from my spot on the floor. Francis looks at me and quickly gives me a hug. "Thank you, Mary," he says. He pulls away and looks at us both. His hand takes hold of mine, the other takes Bash's.
"I bless your union," Francis says. "I am sorry I missed the wedding," he adds. I see the smile on his face is fake, and I squeeze his hand. "I am sorry Henry forced you to see the consumation," I say.
"It is alright. Bash I know you tried to help, and I haven't thanked you for that." Francis says.
"Now, I must retreat. Father's wedding to Kenna is tomorrow. You both need rest. I am sure it will be an eventful day." Francis says.
He walks out of the room, Bash and I clinging to each other. He turns around and smiles at us. "Mary is freer with you. Stronger. Thats what I have always valued in her. Take care of her. I'll see you both in the morning." he says.
"Thank you, Francis," I say. He then leaves, and Bash pulls me closer. The prince that lost everything, but is still so sweet and forgiving. I look up at my darling husband, kissing him. "About that lake," I say, Bash, laughing in return. He then scoops me up in his arms, spinning around the room. "We better go now if we are to sneak away before the servants arrive," he says. Then like the bride I am, he carries me out the door and out of the castle for a blissful night.
