Chapter 08: Questions
"Wait..." when i heard her voice, i knew that it was Asuna who held her sword in front of my throat.
While making a clean turn, i kicked away her sword from my throat, and put mine at her throat. We stood there, swords milimeters away from cuting the others throat. I could feel Asuna's fear. Unlike me, who didn't have anyone who would wait for them, she had a family, and a boyfriend, so she had a reason to be scarred.
Although i knew that, and that she would put her sword down if i would just wait i little longer, i sank my sword and put it back in the sheath.
"Why? Why did you lower your sword?" she said, after a long, and really uncomfortable pause. I simply answered "Because you're not my target" with my still cold expression. And it was true. I only ever killed for self defense, or when i had a contract, although that day was my first contract.
To make sure, she asked me "Would you kill me if i was, your target?". To be fair, i wanted to say "no", to minimize the chance of me dying, but i still answered truthfully, and said "Yes. I would" while i took a step back, and started walking away again. To my suprise, this time i didn't get to have a sword in front of my throat.
Just before i went outside her line-of-sight, i turned around, and saw that Asuna was still standing there like i hadn't moved an inch, and i started laughing while i walked away.
On hour after i killed Toffi, the amulete returned my crystal back to green, and i walked into the city like nothing ever happened.
It was soon after, that i first heard of Mio, a protector. She was able to be hired by players to guard them, and ensure their safety. "Huuuh? Just like me, isn't she?" was what i thought. But... I was wrong about that. She wasn't a red player, but a green. Instead of killing the red player's, she imprisoned them.
I found it really fascintating that she spends so much money on prison crystals, just to protect some random player. But it had nothing to do with me so i left it at that. That'S what i thought anyway.
The next day, a masked woman came to my hut in the mountains. "Wow. Rumours are spreading fast i see...". That was what i thought when i opened the door and she said "You're "Viper", right? I have a mission for you. Don't worry about the payment, i'll make sure to reward you like noone else."
My targets name was "Michael", he was a green player, with connections to more then two orange guilds. He's someone who brought green players into their party, lured them into nomans-land, and waited for the others to kill them. I said i'll see if i do it, and come back to her when i killed him, or i decided i wont do it.
I packed my things. My mask, my armor, my throwing-knifes, and my red-black katana i recently bought from Aegil's shop. It was one of the most durable swords, but was super fast to swong, so i fell in love with it at first sight. Well. It did cost me almost all of my money, but that was worth it. Anyway...
I got all my things and went to Egil's shop to buy myself a new weapon. Since he was moving his shop to a new location, all the items where 15% cheaper then usual so i picked out a sword that would normally cost 900.000 COL. The blade was split into to different colours by a wave pattern. The sharp edge was silver while the rest was black. Even though it was black, it was able to beautifully reflect sunlight, making blinding your enemies still possible.
With my new sword and restocked potions and items, i moved down to floor 16 where i waited for my target. My second mission... Began.
