A/N: I feel sorry for Athenadora and Diana in this chapter
"so, what do you want to do today?" Diana asked me. I got an idea, chess, "what about chess?" Chess was the only thing I decided not to show Aro; he would keep losing, I didn't want to give him an edge he was shaking his head right now. "What brother?" He chuckled. "Good luck sisters, she can even beat me." They looked at me in mock surprise, "what? I have a wonderful strategy." Athenadora smirked, "we'll see about that, the only reason he wins against us is he can see our strategy's."
I let out a laugh and looked back at him, if I didn't know better, I would have said he would be blushing but since, he was a vampire, he would be blushing if he was human. I was right, the face he showed was right up there. "Come on." and Diana took my arm, before I knew it, I was in a different room. Why did vampires have to go everywhere quickly?
I was lucky enough they let me entertain my pride with the stairs, I had the feeling, I wasn't that far away from Aro probably he was in the next room. "Okay, someone needs to get me a map. What happens when someone isn't there to help me figure out where is where?" Of course, now that I had a visual of what I thought was the room selected for me; I could aperate there at will, I thought I heard a laugh from one side of the wall, definitely the next room.
"We don't actually have a map of the place. We just got used to it-" "-like you will." Athenadora finished for her. They took out a board from one of the drawers. "This is the rec room for the elite guard. We come here sometimes when we want to hang out with them, or just do something fun." Diana put the board on the table. "I'm not as good as Dora in chess, so let's see how good you are."
We gave each other a look, like I'm going to win, before laughing out loud Athenadora jumped in to. "Okay let's play," I started my strategy. "Are you sure you know how to play chess?" I nodded, "of course, this is just the way I play." She moved again, and I moved again, this went on three times more before I started actually playing.
I now had an idea of the way she played. She had the expression on her face like 'this beat my brother he's worse at chess than I thought.' And finally I ended my campaign with, "check," I paused, "and," I paused again, "mate." About five moves ago they finally realized how good a player I was and noticed the only thing they could do now was slow me down.
"I can't believe I was beaten by a human-… no offense." I shook my head, "none taken." Athenadora asked a question, "how did you get that good?" I thought about Ron who died, it didn't feel as bad as yesterday, was I finally coming to terms with the war; and everything it took? "my friend, Ron, taught me in the basics. After he died, I started to get better at it. I wanted him to have something good to look back on, so, I practiced continuously in Britain."
They looked uncomfortable; again, a question that was just a question brought up bad memories. "Even so, I think sharing this is helping. Yesterday, I felt distress, but today it's more of sadness then an all-consuming thing." They nodded and tried to lighten the mood, "I want to try and see if I can win against you." I clicked my lounge, "I doubt it." She sat down and we played a game. "Check, and mate." She put her head in her hands. "How?" she lifted it out of her hands and said, "you know what? you need to play against Caius." She yelled, "CAIUS!" a few seconds later Caius came in the room. "yes mi amore? (my love)" There was a confused expression on his face.
Caius's Point of View
Me and Marcus were in the throne room; about to deal with some random vampire that fed in front of humans and didn't clean up their mess. Aro came in, "the girls decided to play chess. It seems they got past the awkwardness of yesterday." That was a relief, me, and Marcus both saw what our mates looked like yesterday, it took a while to calm them down. "I think Athenadora will win." Aro shook his head, "you're just bias brother; you haven't seen her play."
Marcus cut in, "brothers I think we can all agree that were all bias." Again, Marcus, is the voice of reason. "Hmm, well, we can always see what happens after court is delt with." Aro nodded, "Felix, Dimitri, can you bring him in please." The rest of the court proceeding was boring, and I honestly wanted it to be over with so I could get back to my Dora. "CAUIS!" the voice was a yell. but it didn't seem like she was in any danger. I looked to my brothers
"go on, we do have a break right now." I nodded and left for the rec room, where the sound seemed to have come from. I opened the door. "What?" Dora hugged me close, "well one, I missed you." That sounded reasonable, "and the other reason?" She snorted; it was something she did when she was playfully annoyed. "Rebecca beat me. I want to see if she can beat you." this was surprising, although, I could always beat her she was better then a lot of players.
"Hmm, well, I guess I could spare a few minutes, court is on break for the moment." I sat down next to Rebecca, really taking her in as she set up her pieces and we began to play.
