A/N: Nothing like chess with some court proceedings on the side
Caius Point of View
I sat down; Rebecca looked exited. "So, you're apparently a good player?" she nodded, "yes." I set up my pieces, "well let's find out." She made the first move "let's," the first few moves made no sense, I moved in a way to reach the end goal; continuing on, her moves seemed more strategic, but also seemed disconnected. "Hmm," she was looking at me, a smile on her face, she either has the best poker face I've ever seen, or she actually has something up her sleeve. I looked at the board and remembered her previous moves, Athenadora's words were really getting to me. 'She's a really good player,' she said. I still couldn't find something. Wait! I looked at a piece, then the others, I think I started to get an idea where she was going. If I didn't do something to stop it now, I wouldn't be able to.
I moved my Knight, and her eyes lit up like she just saw something amazing. "you're a really good player it seems." Then she moved another, having an idea now of where she was going, I started to counter better. There were a few close calls but so far it was going well, until… "checkmate." I had let my guard down and now I had lost. "This was a fun game; I haven't had such competition in a while." she reached out for a handshake. "You've beaten me I can respect that." I returned the handshake.
I heard Aro from the throne room. "Brother, court will resume soon. Can you bring Rebecca?" he wanted me to bring the hu… Rebecca, I had to stop myself from saying it, it wasn't out of spite; more of habit. "Rebecca court will resume soon, and Aro wants you in the throne room." she nodded, and I turned to Athenadora. "You're going to give her back right? I want some more bonding time with my new sister." I chuckled and embraced her, "of course." I finished our embrace with a kiss. "I'll be back soon" she shivered, and her eyes turned black like mine probably were.
Rebecca Point of View
I saw Caius kiss Athenadora, I had the feeling they had just spoken either to low, or to fast for me to hear, because Athenadora shivered, and her eyes turned black. I would have to ask what he said to her; at least as long as she didn't mind. The scene in front of me was beautiful, the love between them was obvious, but I still had a question why did Aro what me in court? What was the point?
I would find out soon enough anyway as Caius let go of Athenadora to lead me to the throne room the name the throne room seemed to check out since there were three thrones in a circular room when I saw Aro talking to Marcus my heart leapt he noticed me and used vampire speed to close the space "cara (dear) how was your morning" he had a knowing smile "well I beat Caius over here, you know not that big of a deal." he gave a small chuckle, "of course cara, (dear) come, sit." He led me to the middle throne, I had the feeling it was his. He sat me down despite my protest and honestly; I wasn't sure what to do with myself.
I mean I didn't know what happened in vampire court; I knew the proceedings for a full criminal trial in the Wizgamot, but I was unsure what to do here. Marcus must have seen my discomfort "calm down, you'll do fine, I think he only wants you to watch." I smiled at him, everyone here was already so welcoming to me despite being a witch. "Bring in the nomad." Felix and Dimitri bowed and left, they came back with a nomadic vampire and his mate.
I watched with pride for Aro as he started the proceedings, at first it was silent, he was reading the thoughts of the two before facing us. "These two created an immortal child that jane destroyed-" Caius hissed, "then kill the two of them, they completely disregarded the law we set up." His face was angry, stone cold, I could get why he was rumored in the wizarding world and the vampiric slice, as a ruthless ruler with an iron fist.
To be fair, all three brothers ruled that way. It was the only way to keep control of all the vampires in the world. Marcus and Aro also decided on their death "Rebecca?" he asked. "What do you think?" (A/N: oooohhhh! putting her on the spot is not something she appreciates Aro!) um, he wants my opinion? I was not expecting this. Umm… where's perfect diction when you need it. "They did break the law, knowing the consequences; therefore, they would be punished how anyone else would be." I did know some vampire laws, like creating immortal children was a big no, no. He nodded and ripped off the males headfirst, then the female. Felix lit the two on fire and Aro came up to me "well, court is out for now." "can we talk please Aro?"
Aro Point of View
"can we talk please?" I could tell something was up, and I knew what. There was always a part of her life ever since she turned eleven, that she had to take charge, and she did it perfectly. She hated it, but she did it perfectly. I also knew that my brothers might not like ruling either, but when we came together we knew that we had to take control. We all knew a day would come when humans would be able to take us down. This modern age was a testament to that.
Rebecca would know all about this, since, she had lived in a world that has to safeguard a secret for a while now. She would understand somewhat, what I was about to ask her to do. Me and my brothers went to the office and I sat her down. "Look there's a reason I wanted you to come to court today." I took a deep breath, "and a reason I called for your opinion today." She looked like she was waiting for it, "it's because I want you to rule with me." Surprise, shock, confusion, (A/N: this is what her face looks like she's feeling) "why would you ask me to rule with you? you've seen everything, you know I would dislike it."
And I did know. She disliked the pressure of her choice. If she chose wrong, then someone could get hurt. "I understand that, but you also have to understand that you're perfect for this. I see the qualities for a leader when I look at you. I want you to rule by my side."
