Hey guys! As always, I just wanted to say thank you for following, favoriting, and reviewing this story! It really means a lot to me. Now, to answer Guest's question from the reviews; I have no clue how many chapters this is going to be yet. I'm going with the flow and seeing what happens.

Now, on with the story!

Chapter 4

Aubrey's POV

A text message wakes me up in the middle of the night, and I groan as I quickly grab it. You and Beale, meet me in the cafeteria in ten minutes. I stare at it groggily for a minute, the message not making sense in my sleepy haze.

"Shit!" The meaning of the message finally hits me when I look at who sent it; my father. "Chloe, wake up!" I walk over and shake her away, simultaneously shrugging out of my sweatpants. "Chloe!"

"What do you want?" She groans and rolls over, attempting to curl into a ball. I turn the light on and steal her covers, and she groans again. "What?"

"General Posen texted. He wants to meet in ten minutes."

"Oh!" She immediately rolls out of bed and copies my actions of getting dressed in something decent enough to wear in front of my father. I end up in blue jeans and a black button-up shirt; she wears black jeans, a white plain t-shirt, and a leather jacket.

"Ok, let's go." We sneakily exit our room and walk quietly down the hallways. We don't say anything the whole time, and I can feel my heart pounding in my chest.

Once we're finally outside, we get in the rental car, which has slowly become more mine than hers over the few weeks we've now been here at Barden. "Where are we going?" Chloe asks quietly as I start it.

"The cafeteria." I pull out my phone and show her the text.

"I wonder what he wants to talk to us about?" She asks. "And at-" she glances at the time in the corner of the screen, "3:30?"

"I don't know, Chloe." I say through gritted teeth. She knows we should never question my father's motives, yet she does it all the time. She knows it gets on my nerves, and sometimes I think she does it just to annoy me.

"I know, it was a rhetorical question." She rolls her eyes at my tone and stares out the window.

"Mkay." I mutter, deciding to let the conversation fall between us. Thankfully, the cafeteria is only a five minute's drive away from where we're staying, so it doesn't take long to get there. We get out of the car and quietly close the doors, then walk into the building. Immediately, I see my father sitting at one of the tables, watching us. I tap Chloe's shoulder, and we walk up to him, both saluting in his presence.

"At ease. Sit." He motions to the bench on the opposite side of the table, and we sit down, staring at him expectantly.

"Good morning, sir. Are there new updates?" Chloe asks politely, and I give her a small, grateful smile.

"Some, yes." He hands Chloe a file, then hands me one. "Inside there you will find Mitchell's dorm room, information about her dorm mate, and her schedule." I open the file and pull out Mitchell's schedule:

Intro to Philosophy

Music Theory

Comparative Literature

Chemistry

Statistics

"Doesn't her dad teach Comparative Literature?" I ask, setting the file back down on the table.

"As a matter of fact, he does. That's why she's taking it."

"Oh." Makes sense, I guess.

"Oh, one more thing. I want you two to look into Jesse Swanson." He pulls out his phone and shows us a picture. They guy's pretty cute; brown hair, brown eyes, not too pale, but not overly tan either. He has the second biggest smile in the world, second only to Chloe. "He and Mitchell just met, but they're cousins."

I nod. "Yes, sir."

"Mitchell got an internship at the radio station the other day. She, Swanson, and a kid named Luke Frayer work there. Keep an eye on it." He suddenly stands up and looks between Chloe and I. "That's all I have for you today, ladies. I will be checking in again in a couple of weeks to see how you're doing. Don't forget; get her to talk. Has she joined the singing group yet?"

"Not yet, sir. But I have a plan." Chloe says, a tight-lipped smile on her face.

"Good. Goodnight, soldiers." We both quickly stand and salute, and he returns the gesture swiftly before turning and striding out of sight. As soon as he's gone, I feel my shoulders relax.

"You have a plan?" I ask Chloe, and she gives me a mischievous smile.

"No."

"I-uh-you- why the hell did you lie to him?" I sputter, and Chloe laughs.

"Because. I'll come up with something, I promise." She reaches over and squeezes my arm reassuringly. "You know what today is?"

"What?"

Her grin falters a little bit. "We put the cameras in Mitchell's apartment."

"Oh yeah. I forgot." I sigh, then yawn widely. "Let's go get some more sleep beforehand, though."

"Awes." She smiles and links my arm with hers.

"Aubrey. Wake up." I open my eyes to see Chloe shaking me gently. "It's go time."

"Alright." I sit up and stretch. "Let's go, then." I quickly run a brush through my hair, then we head out the door (I stayed dressed after we returned to our apartment last night). Before we leave, I attempt to grab the files, but Chloe whacks my hand away.

"We don't need those."

"Uh." Is all I can think of to say at the moment.

"I memorized it." She admits, looking down. Her face turns pink, and I can't help but sigh.

"Chloe. I love how dedicated you are, but…" I trail off, unsure exactly where I was going with my thoughts. Thankfully though, Chloe looks up at me and nods.

"I know, Bree. I know."

The drive to campus is rather silent, with neither of us knowing what to say. When we get to campus, we get out and immediately walk to the dorms. I hand Chloe an ear com, and she gracefully slips it in.

"Who's going in?" Chloe asks. "I'm fine either way." But I see the look in her eye.

"I'll go." I offer. She opens her mouth, but I cut her off before she can say anything. "I'm sneakier than you are."

"True." She sighs. "Good luck."

"Thanks. Let me know if you see her or her roommate." They should both be in class right now, but you never know.

"Mitchell's in her Intro to Philosophy class, I checked." Chloe pulls out her phone. "And her roommate is in Advanced Stats."

"Perfect. Thanks, Chlo." With that, I salute her and walk into the building. I pull out my phone and follow the map of the school, Mitchell's dorm already being labeled in the blueprint. It doesn't take me long to find it; when I get there, I pull out a bobby-pin and unbend it, then stick it in the hole. I wriggle it around for a minute, then grin when I hear the unmistakable clike of the door being unlocked.

"I'm in." I press the button on my ear com and tell Chloe, closing the door behind me as I look around. There's not much to see- an unmade bed and computer stuff on one side, and a made bed with lots of school stuff on the other. It's pretty obvious who's bed belongs to who. I place the cameras in the corners of the walls, using Mitchell's rolling chair to reach.

"Just get them in, then get out." Chloe's voice orders in my ear.

"Jesus, Chloe, I know what to do." I respond, slightly annoyed as I almost fall out of the chair.

"I'm just being helpful." She responds, her voice obviously hurt. I sigh, imagining the sad look that's clearly on her face right now.

"I'm sorry."

"It's fine." She says back, but I can tell it's not fine. "Bree, I just saw Mitchell and Swanson, you need to get out of there!"

I groan. There are two more cameras I need to put up still. "How much time do I have?"

"Like, none! Come on!" She responds, rather frantic.

"Give me one minute! I promise I'll be fine!" I quickly stick a camera on the lip of Mitchell's desk, then place one on the other desk. Suddenly, I hear the door handle turning. "Shit!" I mutter under my breath.

"HIDE!" Deciding not to respond, I quickly dive under Mitchell's bed, suddenly less annoyed that the sheets are hanging to the floor. I hold my breath and sit as still as possible, despite there being something sharp digging into my back.

"So, this is where you live?" A male voice, presumably Swanson's, says as the door opens. The door shuts, and an exasperated sigh answers.

"Yup." I immediately recognize Mitchell's sarcastic, carefree voice, and it takes all of my willpower not to hiss in annoyance.

"Nice. So, what are we looking for?" Swanson responds, and I see the bottom of his shoe appear in front of me.

"My headphones. They're either in my desk, or under the bed." My heart skips a beat when she says this.

"Please don't tell me you're- oh my god you're under the bed." Chloe's voice makes me start in fright. "Sorry." I stick my middle finger up at her toward the closest camera. Suddenly, I feel a weight on the top of the bed pressing down on me. Panicking, I look around to see if the headphones are there. I see them at the bottom of the bed, so I slowly, and very quietly, grab them and push them to the front, where they're hanging out a bit.

My breath catches in my throat when a brown, obviously male hand appears in front of my face. I pick the headphones up and place them carefully in Swanson's hand, and his fingers close around them.

"Got them, Becs." Swanson says, and Mitchell lets out a sigh of relief.

"Thank God. Now let's go before my dad kills me." Something slams, and I see two sets of shoes exit the room. As soon as the door shuts, I let out a huge sigh of relief, my heart pounding a mile a minute.

"That. Was close." Chloe announces in my ear, and I roll my eyes.

"NO DUH." I crawl out from under the bed and straighten my shirt, looking around and taking deep breaths.

"Well jeez, excuse me for being worried about the mission, Aubrey." She responds harshly, and I sigh.

"I'm sorry. I'm coming out now." I take one last look around, to make sure the cameras aren't noticeable, then leave the dorm, making sure to lock the door behind me. I look around, then quickly rush out of the building, only stopping when I see Chloe, wearing an amused grin.

"You looked slightly panicked in there." She chuckles, and I give her a warning glare.

"What would you have done, huh?" I ask, and she chuckles again, bumping my shoulder.

"It's fine, Bree, I'm just messing with you." I smile back softly at her, but it doesn't pass me that she avoided answering the question.

"Ok. Let's just see how well the cameras work, then connect them to the computer back home."

When we get back to the apartment, Chloe syncs her phone to the computer in her room. We open up the program, then Mitchell's room appears. Her roommate is in the dorm, but she's on her laptop, typing away. Mitchell is nowhere to be seen.

"Well, they work, that's a relief." I tell Chloe, then flop down on her bed. "So…"

"Yeah?" She turns and looks at me, her face full of curiosity.

"Have you decided how you're going to get Mitchell to join the Bellas yet? Auditions are in a couple of weeks."

Chloe sighs. "I haven't yet, no." At my exasperated look, she adds, "but I will soon, I promise!"

"You better. You've been spending too much time with Tom." I scold, and her eyes widen while her face simultaneously turns red. "Yeah, didn't think I knew about that, did you?" I point at my neck for emphasis. "Trackers, Chlo."

She groans, then sits next to me. "He's just some innocent fun. He takes my mind off things." Her voice goes quiet at the end, and I nod.

"I get that. But, Chloe, I need you to tell me if this mission gets to be too much for you."

She gives me a falsely reassuring smile. "I will, trust me."

"Good." I wrap my arms around her in a hug, which she reciprocates.

A/N2: I just wanted to let you guys know that a certain scene is in the next chapter... anyone have a guess? It should be fairly obvious.
