Hello, my lovelies... teehee. Here's Chapter 6! Also, some sad news; I might have to disappear for a while again. As soon as we got back from Florida, we got a call saying my aunt's suddenly doing worse, so we might have to go back.

Chapter 6

Aubrey's POV

"She better show up." I tell Chloe as we take our seats in the auditorium. Today is the day of auditions, and to say I'm nervous would be an understatement of the year.

"She will, Bree." She reassures me, looking around. No one is here yet except the groups.

I turn around when I hear Bumper Allen make a joke about me puking. From the sincerity of his joke, I can only come up with two possible reasons why: one, my father told him and he's in on it (and if that's the case, we need to talk), or two, my dad used a chemical of some sort to alter his memory. He told me he doesn't like to do it, but he will if has to. Either way, I know I have to go along with it as if he thinks it really happened.

"My dear aca people." I look around at everyone, and I'm not shocked when the High Notes are the only ones not paying attention. "I will not let big-headed, egotistical dirtballs, whoever you may be, stand in our way. We will return to Lincoln Center this year and finish what we started." The Trebles just laugh at me, and I huff in annoyance when I sit back down.

Just as I sit back down, the first person is brought on stage to audition, after a long talk about "confusing sexuality" and stuff.

What the fuck was that about? Chloe texts me from under the table, and I suppress a small laugh.

I have no clue. I send back, right as one of the Trebles (Donald Watkins, the file says) says "Whenever you're ready, dude."

The person on stage takes her hat off, revealing short pink hair. "Yo, my name is Cynthia Rose."

"Not a dude. That's not a dude." Watkins whispers loudly to Allen. My attention is quickly captured by the girl on stage- her voice is amazing! Chloe and I glance at each other, and she flashes me a happy grin. I return it, then turn back to the girl.

Some more people audition, and it's pretty average. One other girl- Kori, I think her name was- was really good. A couple others were decent. My attention is caught yet again when a tall, skinny brunette walks on stage. I can feel my face turn into one of delight, but I do my best to ignore it. I can't deny though that she's hot.

"Hi. My name's Stacie, and my hobbies are cuticle care and the E! Network." I grin at Chloe, but it immediately turns into a look of shock when Stacie starts signing. The guys all gasp and catchall as she runs her hands down her front. Chloe elbows my rib as I feel myself staring, but I ignore my best friend.

The rest of the auditions are pretty uneventful. Swanson auditions, and I have to admit, he can sing. Benji Applebaum, Swanson's dorm mate, also auditions, and his voice is astounding. I find myself hoping one of the other groups will take him.

"That's everybody." I turn to Chloe, who's biting her bottom lip nervously. Before I can say anything, though, her face lights up.

"Oh wait, there's one more!" I turn to the direction she's looking and snarl a little when I see Mitchell standing awkwardly behind stage. "Hi!" She waves the target on stage.

"H-hello. Uh, I didn't know we needed to prepare that song."

"Oh, that's ok. Sing anything you want."

To my shock, Mitchell walks right up to the edge of the stage. "Uhh, may I?" She points at the cup. Chloe nods, and Mitchell dumps the pens out on the table. She then sits on the stage and starts clapping. After two rounds of this, she starts singing.

I got my ticket for the long way round

Two bottle of whiskey for the way

And I sure would like some sweet company

And I'm leaving tomorrow, what do you say?

I can't help but notice the way she looks at Chloe the whole time she sings, and I frown in anger. Chloe, on the other hand, has a huge smile on her face.

When I'm gone

When I'm gone

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my hair

Your gonna miss me everywhere

Oh I know you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

She sets the cup down in front of her and gives us a slightly cocky smile. My frown deepens, but Chloe still has that megawatt grin on her face.

After a second, Mitchell awkwardly stands up and walks offstage.

"So?" Chloe asks me, then whispers, "now we can finally get close to her."

"She's good, I will give you that." I sigh. "Good job for that quick thinking, by the way."

"Thanks. I had a feeling she might try to use that as an excuse not to audition."

At that, I laugh. "That seems like something she would have done. Nice work. Now let's get home and discuss who else should be a Bella." Chloe nods, and we walk arm in arm to our car.

"No way! She has to be in!" Chloe demands, and I groan.

Turns out, picking out who should and shouldn't be Bellas is proving to be more difficult than we expected. We've already decided on (not counting Mitchell, if course) Cynthia Rose, Kori, and Jessica. We've moved on to Fat Amy, and we can't agree.

"Chloe, she wasn't even that good." I respond, trying my hardest not to sound exasperated. Of course, it fails, and she glares at me.

"Aubrey, we need her. We don't have enough girls without her." I sigh, because I know she's right.

"I just wish we had another option." Chloe opens her mouth to respond, but my phone starts ringing. I groan, then grab it to answer, fully intending to release my Posen wrath on whoever's calling. That plan quickly changes though when I see it's my father.

"Posen and Beale here." I answer the phone, then put it on speaker.

"Hello, Aubrey, Beale." My father responds. "Any new developments?"

"Today was auditions. Chloe got Mitchell to audition, so she's in." I respond, earning a grin from Chloe.

"Perfect. Has anything else happened that I should know about?"

"No, sir." Chloe and I both respond at the same time, more out of habit than anything.

"Actually, sir, I did have a question." I venture slowly.

"Yes?"

"How did you get people in on my puking accident from last year?" I ask, nervously biting my bottom lip in the process of waiting for him to respond.

"That's none of your concern." He simply responds, and I sigh.

"Understood. That's all, sir."

"Ok. Keep me updated. Oh, I also want you to keep an eye on Stacie Conrad for me. She seems suspicious."

"Oh?" Chloe and I ask at the same time again, glancing back and forth at each other.

"I have reason to believe she's protecting Mitchell. I'll give you more information when I receive it." There's what sounds like a scream on his end of the line, and he groans. "Harrington just blew up a bunker again. I have to go take care of that. Until next time." And with that, he hangs up.

"Isn't Stacie the one you were drooling over earlier?" Chloe jokes, poking me in the rib. I whack her arm away and roll my eyes. It's no secret that I'm gay- everyone but General Posen knows. Chloe was actually the first person to ask me about it.

We were walking down the streets of San Juan, watching the common people and their families run by. It was Puerto Rico's Independence Day- almost everyone was celebrating. I just got back from a mission in Europe, and this was the first moment alone Chloe and I had had together in months.

"I swear, this girl was literally the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I wish I could look as good as her." I exclaimed to Chloe, who laughed.

"Yeah, and I bet you wished you could be with her too, didn't you?" She joked back, and I turned to give her a falsely confused look. Before I could say anything though, she laughed again. "Oh, Bree. You know I know, right?"

"Know what?"

"You're gay." She whispered, then grabbed my hand reassuringly. "I don't care. I still love you."

Immediately, I sighed with relief. "I love you too. And-"

"Don't tell General Posen. I know." She smiled softly at me, then turned back to watch the people of the town celebrate again.

"Aubrey!" Chloe's voice brings me back to the present, causing me to start a little.

"What?"

"Oh my GOD, you're worse than me sometimes." She rolls her eyes at me. "I asked if you have a toner for Stacie."

"A what?" Hard as I try, I'm unable to hold back my snort of amusement. "What the hell is a toner!?"

"A musical boner. I just made it up." She grins. "Anyway, do you?"

"Uh, no. I mean, she's hot, sure. But she's part of the mission now. You of all people should know that falling in love with either the target or someone related to the target is off limits." She winces slightly, almost making me feel bad for even merely mentioning Asher.

"Yeah, I know. It just seemed like you really like her."

"I don't even know her, Chlo." I sigh, attempting to run the migraine out of my head.

"Yet." She corrects with a grin. "It's ok if you like her. I get it." This time, it's her turn to sigh.

"Hey. What happened with Asher is in the past. I didn't mean to bring it up like that. I'm sorry." I reach over the table and grab her arms comfortingly, and her bright blue eyes find my green ones.

"It's ok, Bree. You were just trying to make a point." A smile, understanding smile spreads across her face. "By the way, I have an idea."

"Yeah?" I release her arms and sit back in the uncomfortable wooden chair, crossing my arms across my chest.

"I enrolled myself into Dr. Mitchell's Comparative Literature class. Same block as Mitchell's. I figured that getting a better understanding of their relationship might help with the mission." I nod as she speaks, slightly annoyed that I didn't think of the idea myself.

"That's actually a really good idea, Chlo. Nice work."

She puffs her chest, and her grin widens into one of pride. "Thanks."

"Yup. Now…" I hold up Lilly's picture. "Is she in? I know she was quiet, but she could really sing."

Chloe nods. "I thought so too. Glad we're on the same page there."

After several more hours of thoughtful planning, we end up with Fat Amy, Stacie, Kori, Mary Elise, Cynthia Rose, Ashley, Jessica, Mitchell, Denise and Lilly. A few of them are extras, but you never know what could happen. Especially if we need to eliminate one of them in the future. The day after tomorrow's the day we kidnap them all, and I can honestly say I'm a little excited. I'm excited to finally be able to sing again, and do it in a competitive scene. Also, I won't admit it to anyone, but seeing Stacie again would be nice. Even if it is only for the case.
