Sorry I'm just adding this now, but hi. I hope you like the story. Don't forget to review. Also, I don't any of the characters except for Jem, and maybe a few others if I add them. 3
The silver man was so strange. He had all those scars and markings on his arms. Wonder what happened to give him those.
Jem quickly looked away at the pond behind the silver man, and tensed as she sensed his gaze that took in her black hair, blue eyes, angel and jade necklaces, then rested on her shoulder. She had always had a star-shaped scar there. Jem's mom Tessa said it was her birthmark. Tessa's was only a speck of blue in her stormy eyes. Jem's tank top left the scar completely visible. She didn't care, it's only a birthmark right?
Jem noticed the man had gotten up. She didn't move, he's probably only leaving. But when he started in her direction her pulse started to race, but Jem kept her features an indifferent mask that hid the fear.
He slowly and silently approached, and then knelt down in front of Jem.
"Where did you get those necklaces?" His voice was kind, and slightly familiar. Her pulse started to slow at the sound of it. It was odd, he was such a calming presence.
"My mother gave them to me. She said my father's friend gave the jade to her, and she wanted me to have it. And she said that the angel was something her mother gave her." Jem tried to keep the relief out of her voice, but a little soaked in.
"I was just curious. I used to have a necklace like the jade." He sounded as if he was in a dream. Maybe he was remembering something he misses.
"Jem? Jem, come on, it's time to leave!" Tessa always had something scheduled so that they didn't stay at the park after sunset. "Jem!" She searched through the crowd for her and when she saw Jem her gaze softened. When she saw the silver man, her eyes went wide, and she rushed to him.
"James? James, is that really you?" She pleaded, desperately hoping.
"Tessa." He breathed. His face was covered in wonder and love. She grabbed him up with a strength that Jem had never seen before.
"Uhh…" She knew nothing of this man, or of his relation to her mother. Thankfully Tessa understood.
"Oh, sorry." She let go but still watched him. "James, this is my daughter Jem. James is an old friend of mine, and I haven't seen him in years." Well that much was clear.
"You.. you named her after me? But why?" James' voice contained more than curiosity, but Jem couldn't put what it was.
"What? Mom, you never said I was named after someone…" Jem's confusion was clear on her face.
"That's because I named you after his nickname. And it was something your father wanted. James had been his friend." Jem had never really known who her father was. Tessa just told her that he had died before she was born. At least that much was true.
"I don't see the difference." Well at least James understood. "But thank you. I won't keep you any longer. I was just curious about her necklace."
"James, wait! Why don't you come and have dinner or something? I would love to hear about what you've been up to." Jem wondered why her mother sounded so desperate.
He nodded. "I suppose I could stay for dinner. Alright."
