Hope you like it! Sorry for all the people who experienced some technical difficulties while reading. It should be fixed now though! Don't forget to review, and check out my other story, The Angel's Green Eyes. It's for all those Clace lovers out there, and Alec might just be falling for someone... Read to find out!
The door to Tessa's apartment squeaked, as per usual. Jem immediately went into the tiny kitchen, starting on the trio's dinner.
"What are you making sweetheart?" Tessa inquired.
"My cns." Jem replied as she fluttered about, stirring rosemary and thyme into a large pot of water and chopping vegetables.
"By the angel, are you sick?" James asked worriedly.
"No, silly! Her chicken noodle soup. Cns." Tessa waved her hand dismissively. "Let's go to the living room. We'll catch each other up. And remember sweetie! No playing in the third cabinet down!"
"What's in the third cabinet down?" He asked when they were seated and Jem couldn't hear them.
"Some things from my past. From Will."
"She doesn't know then?" Tessa shook her head somberly.
"I couldn't lose her too. It's dangerous. You of all people know that."
James nodded, "I do. I do." Jem's voice drifted into the room. She was singing a lullaby, and her voice sounded so dreadfully like Will's used to. "Her voice… it's so much like his." James' voice broke, and he desperately fought off tears. A single tear fell from his eyes, wiped away by Tessa.
"I miss him too. She's like him in almost every way. Her voice, her smile.. Even her laugh. So much like him." They were both crying now, tears falling silently down their faces and onto their entwined hands.
After a while Jem called, "dinner's done!"
Storing away their sorrow with every tear, Tessa called back. "We'll be there in a moment, Jem." Taking his face in her hands, she told James the only thing she could, "you are a brave man with a broken heart. Let it be mended," and she gently pressed her lips to his. A soft, consoling gesture. "We should probably go. She hates it when her dinner's cold and she won't eat without everyone." They laughed softly.
Making their way to the kitchen, where a small table was set for three, with a small gray and black tabby cat sitting on a nearby windowsill. "Oh, and that's Tabby. Jem found him in the alley outside, and brought him here."
They all sat down, and James was startled at how hungry he was. He was still used to being a Silent Brother. They never ate, never drank, never slept, never showed emotion, and most of all, never spoke. They communicated telepathically. As they ate, James realized that it was quite delicious. He had been so distracted by his hunger that he didn't take a single moment to taste the flavors.
"Where did you learn to cook?" He inquired. "This is delightful!"
"I took a class," she responded bashfully. "So, Mom, where do you know James from?"
"We, uh… um… he was a good friend of your father's."
"Oh," was all she replied.
They finished eating in silence, and Jem cleared the table.
"Jem dear, bedtime! You don't want to be tired tomorrow," Tessa called. "And I'll take care of the dishes."
Jem nodded, and bidding everyone goodnight, she headed into her bedroom. She left the door cracked though; she wanted to hear everything she could about the father she never knew.
So I'm not leaving this as a one shot. You can thank the someone who reviewed this story.
Leave a review of who it was, and leave a story suggestion too. Check my profile bio to see if you know any of the books I do. If you do, then I will consider it, and probably leave a poll to see who's idea to choose. Just because I don't choose your's does not mean that I don't like your idea, it just means that I'm not doing it now. I'll probably come back in a week or so and chose some other suggestions(If I get any!), and try to do those. Try to do things that wouldn't be too complex, or I can make a short story of. Thanks, and please review!
