AN: Hi Everyone! I wrote my first story almost ten years ago on here and a career, partner and a one son later, I've reignited my love for TBBT and of course my favourite couple, Amy and Sheldon. So, whilst on maternity leave, I thought it might be fun to do some writing again. My spelling and grammar won't be perfect, so I'm sorry, but I don't mind people pointing out spelling mistakes for me to edit. I just don't have much time to proof read right now and this is essentially a bit of fun for me to write and read tehe!
anyway thanks for reading xox
Please read and review!
The sun set over Pasadena, ending another evening of conversing and watching a seamlessly never-ending stream of superhero shows. This week was Sheldon's choice for date night, which usually ended up in Amy feeling bored out of her mind whilst simultaneously inching closer to Sheldon on the sofa, hoping he wouldn't notice. Amy and Sheldon had been together a number of years now, and although Amy was happy being Sheldon's girlfriend, she couldn't help but feel left behind as the other couples in their group took the next steps in their relationships. Howard and Bernadette were married, Penny and Leonard engaged, Koothrapali and his dog had just had a couples photoshoot done. Although that last one certainly wasn't anything to be jealous just wished she could be that close with her boyfriend.
"any closer and you might as well climb onto my lap"
Amy jumped at the sound of Sheldon's voice and inched back to her spot on the sofa. "sorry" she smiled before muttering "Though a chance would be a fine thing"
Sheldon paused the show and turned to his girlfriend."oh Amy, why must you sully these evenings with your constant need for heavy petting and explicit conversation". This question had long addled his brain and he began to wonder whether there was a deeper train of thought he could travel and if there wasn't an opportunity for further studies.
"I'm sorry Sheldon. I was just hoping after years of dating maybe you would hug me without a 24 hour notice or maybe even kiss me without the need for excessive mouth washing" Amy explained, hopeful that one day her speeches would actually permeate the protective cold armour of Sheldon's emotions and initiate some form of intimate relationship. There had been brief moments in their relationship where she truly thought some major improvements were on their way. That kiss on the train was life changing in the moment, but Sheldon had returned to status quo within hours. What would finally be the turning point? If there ever was one.
Sheldon tilted his head, like a puppy hearing it's first ever command before turning to face his girlfriend. "Are you saying you're not satisfied with the particular parameters of our relationship"
Guilt washed over Amy as she stood from the sofa and adjusted her skirts, she hated that everyday that passes she became more and more impatient with Sheldon. Every time that he kissed her she felt the tingles running down her body from head to toe, her breath would catch in her chest and she would turn to a puddle of goo. But these instances seemed to be getting further and further apart, each one becoming less spontaneous than the next. Was this relationship turning to dust? Would they be 80 years old and still meeting once weekly to watch a dull superhero movie and discuss the weeks events. Most of which detailed which various species of bird had gave Sheldon the stink eye on his way home. She could see it now, the reality inching closer with each passing year.
"Look, Sheldon, I'm gonna go. I'm just not in a very good mood this evening. I'll see you tomorrow" Amy reached for her handbag and made her way to the door before feeling Sheldon's presence hovering behind her.
"But Amy, we still have season 6 to go! Don't give up on the show yet, it's about to get wild" Sheldon beamed, he had been so excited to share his new favourite show with his girlfriend.
"Goodbye, Sheldon" Amy softly closed the door behind her and turned to descend the stairs. Another night of disappointment was no shock to her, and she wasn't even upset with Sheldon, but she was ready for a warming cup of cocoa and her bed with a good book. It had been a long night and she needed to put some pleasant imagery into her mind. Perhaps even write a chapter or two of her house on the prairie fanfic. That always cheered her up and gave her hope for the future.
It was 10pm before the last episode of season 6 was finished and as if on cue Leonard and Penny came through the door giggling and grasping at one another like a pair of lovesick hooligans. How grateful Sheldon was that he and Amy weren't like that, they were able to control their baser urges and holding hands still added the spice to the relationship that they needed. or at least for him it did.
"Sorry Sheldon, didn't see you there" Leonard smirked, dropping his keys in the bowl and hanging his blazer over his chair. Penny skipped past, blasting Sheldon a gleeful smile "I'll meet you in the bedroom'.
Sheldon couldn't help but smile at Penny, even when drunk and stinking of wine, she made him feel safe. He turned to look to his best friend, he had barely taken in any of the storyline of his favourite shows for the last two hours after his puzzling conversation with his girlfriend.
"Leonard, this is an important day for you. I need to ask you for your opinion on a topic I'm unfamiliar with" rising to approach his friend who stood puzzled in the kitchen, he was never sure how to broach awkward topics of conversation like this one, but he knew his best friend could potentially help, however little his knowledge of ladies was. Sheldon had already began to regret his decision after being met with the vacant expression of his friend.
"okayyy" Leonard started. "what can I help you with?"
"oh try not to get overly excited Leonard, I'm not asking you anything to do with my work, physics, health or basically anything that requires a highly educated or inspiring point of view." Scoffed Sheldon. "It's come to my attention that Amy Farrah Fowler is interested in a physical relationship with me".
Leonard smiled at Sheldon, which only caused further discomfort to the tall scientist whose attempt at an adult conversation was clearly falling on deaf, and freakishly small, ears.
"come to your attention, Sheldon? I think its come to everyone in a 5 mile radius" Leonard laughed. "Are you finally ready to meet her needs?" he asked, genuinely amazed that Sheldon was even engaging in a conversation that could potentially address sex, emotions or relationships in general. Sheldon had changed so much in the years he had been dating Amy, he had become ever so slightly more approachable about so many things, he had even made compromises in a number of areas that would have been unthinkable only months prior. Leonard had been glad that Amy had become a part of Sheldon and the rest of the group's lives, and only wished that Sheldon could appreciate her more. Perhaps now could be the perfect time.
Sheldon had paused to think, though Leonard was unsure whether it was to actually think about what he had suggested, or to work out his use of sarcasm.
"Leonard, you know I find the notion of psychical intimacy nauseating. The idea of me touching another person's body makes me anxious and moreover, the thought of hurting or disappointing Amy is something I simply cannot bare". He looked to the ground, he almost felt ashamed of his lack of social skill. "But, I have been thinking. I have been struggling in my new field of study recently, and I wonder whether there is any correlation between my growing intimacy with Amy and my lack of concentration and breakthroughs. It could be an interesting side study" he posed to his friend.
It was true, Sheldon had become encumbered with thoughts of Amy and their date nights. Whether they were holding hands that evening, the way her thigh brushed against his on the sofa, or even just the smell of her shampoo as she breezed by him on the stairs. He had become intoxicated with his girlfriend, and clearly it had begun to affect his work. He hadn't made any progress in weeks! His work was stale, his maths weaker than Wolowitz's upper body strength and quite frankly, he had lost interest in even the most complex equations he could think of. He had spent hours pouring over his whiteboard, only to end up skying Amy and being no further along.
"Are you saying you want to sexually experiment with Amy, to prove to her that she's the reason you aren't being successful in your theory?" Leonard questioned, he seemed almost disgusted in the notion, but Sheldon couldn't understand why.
"Isn't it brilliant? Nobody has ever thought of this before!" Sheldon beamed, clearly excited at the thought of his next endeavour. He loves experiments, proving his theories and even better, proving other people wrong.
"Sheldon the reason nobody has done this before is because it's extremely unethical, you could seriously hurt Amy's feelings. Has she even agreed to this?" Leonard asked innocently. Sheldon couldn't understand everybody's obsession with feelings and emotions. Was the apple's feelings hurt when it bonked Newton on the head? I don't think so.
" I haven't asked her, but I can't see why she wouldn't be okay with it. She's been dying to become more intimate since I've known her and this way we both get what we want. Me, the excitement of an experiment and her the gratification of my genitals. Plus if she did know, it would nullify the test results, it could affect the data." Sheldon explained. He had already decided that this idea was top notch, but ironing out the kinks such as how wrong Leonard is, always just adds a little spice. "What I will do, is before each date night I will complete a puzzle before introducing a new intimacy level to our relationship, handholding, kissing etc and then complete a similar puzzle after the date to see whether my levels of concentration have lessened or become heightened as a response to the stimuli. I.e Amy. Ooooh these date nights are going from bearable to satisfactory in the blink of an eye! Its a shame I won't be able to share my findings with Amy until after the experiment is over, I'm sure she would find the neurological data interesting".
"Look Sheldon as your best friend, I need to warn you against this. I know you won't listen, but I need my conscience clear. Also I need this conversation to be over as soon as possible because you're killing my buzz and I have a very drunk fiancé waiting for me in bed. The longer I stand here, the more likely she is to fall asleep" Leonard yawned as he approached the bedroom, he couldn't think straight after a bottle of wine. "Just be careful, buddy" he smiled weakly before closing the door behind him.
Sheldon glanced at his laptop,Amy's face smiling back at him before fading out to a picture of the death star. "Don't you worry little Lady, Sheldon has it all figured out".
