As The World Falls Down

Paragus started calling out names and one by one the chosen was taken and fitted with special devices so they wouldn't escape before the tournament. Pan felt unsure watching the reactions coming from the people chosen. She could tell some were afraid but tried their best not to show it. She came to the realization that she was wrong. There was nothing to be excited about. Pan tugged on Goten's arm signaling she wanted to go. Goten looked at her and nodded his head. He felt relieved that Pan had come to her senses.

"The last of those chosen to participate this year are as follows: Abacado, Escarle, Cellary, Kalila, Beets, Oakra, and...Pan Son!"

Goten froze in his tracks. That couldn't be right...

"Goten?" Pan said quietly with a confused frightened look on her face.

Elite Saiyans emerged from the surrounding area taking hold of Pan. It was all happening too fast. Goten didn't understand what was going on. This had to be a mistake. It didn't matter he wouldn't let them do anything to Pan. He was prepared to fight them all if need be. Daikon could see the thoughts running through Goten. He knew Goten would get them all killed. He quickly stepped in between Goten and the Saiyans as Pan was taken from the crown.

"Get out of my way" Goten said in a threatening voice. Daikon grabbed Goten who was trying to break away, "Listen you idiot! I have a plan, she's going to be okay." Goten was still tense.

Paragus smiled, this was the best part of coming to the trash.

"Now that the pathetic were chosen as fodder. Who of you is a true Saiyan that will willingly join our wonderful tournament?" He asked as those left over began cheering yelling out their names.

Daikon looked at his cousin. One of them would have to enter. He was sure Goten wouldn't do it. He hated fighting. Besides this would be to the death. The idiot would probably get himself killed before even getting into the tournament. He started trying to get Goten to listen to him and his plan for moving forward.

Goten stared at the Elite Saiyans. He began walking towards them not listening to anything that Daikon was saying. Paragus took a look at the young Saiyan and smirked. He knew exactly who he was. He was the spitting image of his father.

"What is going on?!" Goten demanded walking up straight to Paragus, "Why you little insolent bastard! Who the hell do you think that you are!?" One of the elite Saiyan's shouts swinging his fist towards Goten.

Goten catches his fist without moving an inch crushing his hand, "Ahhh!" the man screams falling backwards grasping onto his broken hand. The other Elite Saiyan's began surrounding them. Daikon sighed, why did shit like this always have to happen? If they weren't in the tournament before they were definitely in it now.

"Wait!" Paragus yelled making his men stand down. If the kid could crush the hand of one of his men that easily he earned a chance to speak, "What is it that you want?"

"I just want to know why Pan Son was on the list of the chosen." He tried to stay as calm as possible. Paragus shrugged, "I can't tell you why. I don't know. It's open season and she had the bad luck of the draw. Is that all?" Paragus asks beginning to turn away from him.

Daikon felt a little relieved, at least they weren't going to be killed.

"No, I, Goten Son am entering the tournament." Paragus stopped in his tracks turning to look at Goten. He smiled, "Good." he said before turning away. Daikon shook his head. He was an idiot.

The rest of the Royal family made their way back inside the palace. Bulma was upset she couldn't even think of words to say to her daughter. She took one look at her baby girl and walked away to her chamber. She couldn't talk to her yet. Vegeta gave her a stern look before following Bulma. Damn brat just had to pull something this stupid.

"I hope you're proud of yourself. What the hell were you thinking?" Trunks asked angrily. Bulla could hear the pain in his voice. Did he really have such small faith in her abilities? But he trained with her. He knew she could do this.

"Look Trunks, I know I can do this! This is my only real chance an-" Bulla was cut off.

"Chance? Chance for what?!" He raised his voiced punching his fist into a wall. Trunks let out a heavy sigh before looking at his sister his sadness was palpable, "Bulla you really don't understand what you just got yourself into..." He turned away from her and walked away leaving her alone.

Bulla knew her family wasn't going to be happy but she thought Trunks out of all of them would be on her side. That maybe he would understand why she needed to prove herself. It was as much for her as it was for them. They didn't have an issue when Trunks did it but they did with her? Why did it have to go down that way. Damn.

Bulla crossed her arms across her chest leaning against a wall. For the first time she wondered if she made the right choice? Would she have volunteered if she knew her family wouldn't be supportive?

"They'll get over it." Her Grandfather said making his way into the palace hall. Bulla jumped from her spot uncrossing her arms, "I guess, I just thought that they would be happy for me." She says looking down at the ground.

"Just win." King Vegeta huffed walking down the palace hall. Bulla smiles to herself a little. Her Grandfather had never really acknowledged her. At least now he was speaking to her and she had his support.

Chichi wiped the sweat off her forehead as she continued stirring her pot over the high heat. It didn't help that it was just as hot outside, "You'd think after living on this planet for so long I'd be used to heat" she lets out a sigh as Videl brings her a glass of water.

"I don't think you ever get used to this heat. I really don't understand how it doesn't bother Pan. She seems to love spending her time outside all day." Videl smiles shaking her head.

"Just like her grandfather. You've got yourself a girl who loves adventure. Be careful or you'll get gray hair sooner than you think" Chichi laughs, "Believe me I'm pretty sure I've already grown a few in the past week." Videl says joining in on the laugh.

The front door slams opening making the women jump, "Looks like Goten and Pan are back early from their training session" Videl says setting plates around the dining room table.

"Goten, Pan! Get in here, lunch is ready!" Chichi yells. The women pause when Goten and Daikon enter the dining room without Pan.

Videl felt her heart drop into her stomach, the look on Goten's face was something she couldn't describe. She didn't see Pan, "Goten... where's Pan?" She didn't want to say it out loud. Her jaw tightened and she just knew wherever her daughter was... it wasn't going to be good news.

Goten's hand was in a tight fist, his eyes welt up with tears, "I'm sorry Videl. She was... she was chosen for the tournament." Chichi gasped shocked.

The plate that Videl was holding dropped to the ground as she charged towards Goten, "What do you mean!?" she yelled pounding onto his chest, "You were supposed to be watching her!" She couldn't hold back the tears as Goten wrapped his arms around her. He felt so guilty. He never should have taken Pan to see any of it.

"I'm going to make sure she comes back home in one piece" He states as Videl continues crying, "What do you mean?"

"I'm entering the tournament. I'll make sure Pan get's home" He says looking at Videl, "But Goten..." She couldn't finish that sentence. She knew what it meant if he were to enter... Videl couldn't take the thought of losing her brother-in-law or her baby girl. She drops her arms to her side and silently walks out of the room feeling too overwhelmed.

Chichi looks at her son taking a seat feeling like she was about to collapse. Her head was spinning. Goten walks over to his mother pulling her in an embrace, "My baby boy" Chichi whispers holding him.

"I'm sorry Mom. I have to do this. But I don't want you to worry and I really don't want either of you watching that tournament." Goten was resolved to get this done, "Goten, let me speak with Bulma. Maybe we can put a stop to this an-"

"It's too late for that." Daikon says still leaning against the doorway, "Once you've entered the tournament there is no getting out of it. The only way out is dying before the tournament as a deserter. They will hunt you down."

More tears rolled down Chichi's face, "Goten come back with Pan, you hear me?" Goten nodded his head, "I will. Please, don't worry about me. I will make sure Pan comes home."

"How soon do you have to leave?" Videl asks through quiet sobs, "I have a week to get to the capital city. I'll leave in the morning and I will find Pan as soon as I get there."

Chichi wipes her tears and puts a small smile on her face. She was the Matriarch of this family and if her son was this strong she would be equally as strong if not more, "Well, let's get you well fed before your big trip. You're going to need as much rest and energy so I'll whip up something special"

Goten smiles at his mom, she was always great at making him feel better.

Trunks was pacing back and forth. He couldn't sleep. He felt anxious. Bulla entering the tournament just made his nightmares worse. He decided a late night training session would help him relax. He needed to take his energy and expend it somewhere.

He made his way to the training room when he noticed the light was already on. Who in the world would be up this late? He shook his head, he could ask the same to himself. He had a faint idea of who it would be.

He approached the room and of course, he was right. It was Bulla. She glided through the air with such grace she made it look easy. He was still mad at her. Bulla paused when she felt her brother enter the room. She looked over at him with a smile on her face. She'd been secretly training more often at night.

"So, you talking to me now?" She asks crossing her arms over her chest. Trunks rolls his eyes, "You're not even the least bit worried, are you?"

Bulla shrugs her shoulders, "Am I supposed to be? Come on Trunks. We're royalty and we are way stronger than your average Saiyan. It shouldn't be a problem at all."

"Alright, if that's what you think. We'll do a short training session. Come at me with everything you got." Bulla felt angry. He was really starting to piss her off.

It was almost midnight but Goten couldn't sleep. He got out of his bed walking into the back of their house to the open field. The stars were shining brightly. The whole area was quiet. He let out a long sigh he hadn't realized he was holding in. He noticed someone sitting in the tall grass. It was Videl.

Goten slowly approached her without speaking. She noticed him, "You too, huh?" Videl said quietly as Goten took a seat next to her.

"Videl, honestly. I'm so sor-" Videl held her and up to stop him from apologizing. Goten quickly shut his mouth. There were no words he could say to express how awful he felt. He couldn't help but blame himself for the whole situation. He never should have let her stay. But would it have made that much of a difference? He name would have been called regardless. At least they would have had a chance to run.

"Goten..." Videl spoke again, "Yeah?"

"I just want you to know that I don't blame you. I was very angry and with Gohan being gone..." Goten shook his head he knew what she meant.

"Videl" he said taking her hands in his, "I swear to you. I will bring Pan home. She will win." Videl felt a tear roll down her cheek, "Goten you have to come back. I wouldn't be able to explain to your brother."

Goten wiped her tear away, "Believe me. He'd understand" Videl nodded.

"Nothing will ever be the same." She says sorrowfully.

"That's okay. That's life. Come on, you should go to bed. You'll have plenty of things to worry about tomorrow. Get some rest." Goten helps Videl to her feet.

The two walk silently back into the house.

Two minutes…

Bulla was lying on her back in pain. Trunks wasn't kidding. She was sure of that now. All this time he had been taking it easy on her during their training sessions. She lifted her head to look at him. She wasn't sure what she was expecting to see but it definitely wasn't the current expression he had on his face. She huffed laying her head back down.

Trunks slowly walked over to her lending out his hand. He hadn't used all of his power but enough to shake her up. Bulla swatted his hand away slowly standing on her own two feet. Her ego was bruised. She had barely managed to land a hit on him and he was only toying with her.

"You still think you shouldn't be worried?" He asked as she sent daggers his way, "Because if you're not. You're going to get yourself killed. If you think you're better than everyone else, you're not."

"Okay, let me ignore the fact that you were never serious in helping me train. Do you really think there is someone like you in the tournament?" She had a point. Trunks was a former victor. Of course he'd be strong. He's already won.

"Maybe. I can't say that there isn't. But you're in way over your head. If there's someone in there that's as strong or even near my strength is beside the point." Bulla was confused, what was he getting at?

"What do you mean? The strongest person always wins these kind of things." Trunks paced around the training room thinking, "I have a question for you." He stops pacing looking back at her.

Bulla was annoyed, "Fine, what's your question?"

Trunks got a serious look on his face, "If you had to kill a child. A crying sad kid. Let's say about age ten. Could you do it?" He watched Bulla's face as she processed what he was asking her.

"No, I-I wouldn't be able to do that." She let out a soft sigh. She actually liked kids.

"You need to realize that in this tournament. More than half of those who enter would do it without a second thought. That they will use the younger kids as bait for anyone nice enough to help them therefore weak in their eyes." Bulla's eyes widened. She never considered how bad it would get.

"Do you get it now? What you volunteered for is nothing but a blood bath of the worst people on this planet." Trunks shook his head. He had never told anyone anything he experienced while he was there. Maybe not telling Bulla was the wrong idea. Maybe she would have benefited from learning about the atrocities.

"Trunks, what do I do now?" Bulla finally let her guard down completely. She realized she'd made a big mistake. Her pride got the best out of her. Being a half-Saiyan had given her an inferiority complex among her peers.

Trunks could tell she was worried, "Hey, you still have me. I've been there before. I'm here to help you get out of there. We don't have much time but there is one thing you need to know. The strongest doesn't always win. It helps but this tournament is more complicated than that. As for your training. We got a week, I don't want to push you too hard. We will see how soon we can level you up."

Bulla nodded her head. If she wanted to make it out of this thing alive, she'd have to follow his instructions carefully.

It was before dawn with the light barely peaking over the mountains in the distance. Goten had already packed what he needed. Everyone in the house were still sleeping. He couldn't bring himself to say goodbye. The look on his mom's face the previous night was as much as he could handle. He left a note and then headed out towards the capital city. He turned back to look at his family home. Maybe if he was lucky he would see it again.

There we have it! End of Chapter 2! Let me know what you think. I put the story down for a while because I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue. Turns out I do! I won't take as long in between for the next chapter. If you have any ideas feel free to let me know. I like hearing other peoples ideas and I try to incorporate them into my story one way or another.

Thanks for Reading!
