Two months later Vic is heavily pregnant and expected to deliver the twins any day. She is on her last shift before they make their entrance and sitting at the desk while the others are on a call. She had been having contractions all morning and avoiding telling anyone but now that they were becoming harder to avoid. They were five minutes apart now. She knew what she was going to do was not the best idea, but she had no choice.
Luke was in an important meeting which he could not leave, the team was on a scene, and she didn't fit behind the wheel of a car anymore. So she left a note for when the team got back. She went up to her locker and grabbed her emergency hospital bag and her purse, the only things she had with her for the day. She locked the front door and began the three-block walk to Grey-Sloan Memorial. When she walked in through the trauma entrance Miranda happened to notice her and hurried over.
"Vic? What's going on?"
"I'm in labor. The contractions are at five minutes apart. The team is on a scene. Luke is in a meeting that he can't leave and because I don't fit behind the wheel of the car anymore, I decided to just walk the three blocks. It actually helped ease the pain of the contractions but now my feet are killing me." She replied as a nurse helped her into a wheelchair and pushed her over to the triage area.
They got her registered, triaged, and admitted in under ten minutes. Just as they were getting ready to go to the elevator and get her to the maternity ward the team ran in looking for her.
"Guys, chill. We're fine. Now are you coming up with us or not? Also Miranda there is only one doctor in this hospital I trust with my babies other than you and that is Alex Karev, understood?" Miranda nodded as they all crammed into the elevator and went to get Vic into her room.
"Alright, Herrera and Bishop help her into the gown then we'll all come in." Sully said once they reached the room Vic was assigned to.
"Sully, Luke's meeting should be over by now, so can you call him and Jennifer please?" Vic asked and walked into the room with her friends after he nodded and pulled out his phone. The girls helped her into the gown and into the bed before letting the others in. Luke, Jennifer, Rosaline, and Lila were on the way. The nurses came in and set up the fetal monitors, the IVs, the blood pressure cuff, and everything else they needed to have so they could make sure they were okay. They pushed the team behind the privacy curtain and checked her cervix.
"Alright. Three centimeters along and about fifty percent effaced. If your water doesn't break in the next hour, we're going to have to do it ourselves." Vic nodded and they opened the curtain on their way out. Luke walked in with Jennifer, Rosaline and Lila.
"Hey guys."
"The babies are coming?" Lila asked as she walked up to Vic's bed.
"Yep. They'll be here in no time." Vic smiled.
"How long have you been having contractions?" Luke asked.
"Since right after breakfast at the station. I was going to wait until my water broke but the contractions got to every five minutes first, so I just came in." She replied and reached for his hand. He moved toward her and took it.
"As long as you three are okay."
"We are." Vic smiled and looked at him.
"Our babies are almost here." He smiled and kissed her forehead. She winced and squeezed his hand when the next contraction hit. He rubbed circles on the back of her hand with his index finger and encouraged her to take a deep breath.
"In and out Victoria, you can do it." He coached her through the contraction as the team and his mother and sister watched in awe. Travis managed to snap a beautiful picture of them as he comforted her through that contraction.
"Send that to me." Jennifer whispered to him, and he nodded.
"No. No pictures of me right now. I look like crap." Vic whined.
"Eggy, you do not. You look absolutely beautiful." Luke smiled and he sure as hell believed it too.
An hour later the nurses broke Vic's water. She had continued to progress. She was now at nearly five centimeters dilated, fully effaced and her contractions were getting stronger and still she only gasped when one hit. The team had wished her luck and headed back to the station for the rest of the shift and promised to return afterwards.
"Lila, princess come see aunt Vic." She said and smiled at her niece. Lila diligently obeyed and Vic took her hand.
"I want you to know that even though uncle Luke and I will be busy with the babies you are always welcome to come and visit. We don't want you to feel left out or anything because you're still one of our favorite kiddos and we'll always have time and love for you, okay?" Lila smiled.
"I know and the babies will need a lot of attention and I can help take care of them too!"
"You sure can baby." Vic smiled and squeezed her hand. Vic slowly fell asleep and let herself rest to the best of her ability.
