Lucas and Vic were preparing to take the twins home three days later when she stopped, took a step back, and watched her husband with them and knew that she could finally have the happy life she deserved and dreamed of since she was a child.
There were so many cars outside their house when they got there that she figured the whole damn department had shown up for the twins coming home party that Travis and Jennifer had arranged.
"So much for naptime with my little ones." She sighed in semi-exasperation. She was secretly happy to see her team and her family together after the last few weeks and especially the last few days. Luke clambered out of the front and opened the passenger's side door to help her out and made his way around to grab Violet's carrier and let her get Sebastian's.
"You know you missed them, Eggy."
"Yeah. I did. Let's get our babies inside. We can get the rest of it later." She said as she followed him up the front steps and into the house. When they walked in Vic playfully glared at Travis and Jennifer.
"Really?" She grinned.
"They had to be welcomed home properly." Travis replied.
"Yeah, with naps and snuggles with mommy." Vic smiled she set Sebastian's carrier down and carefully unbuckled him before pulling him close to her chest.
"Well now they get to play instead." Travis replied taking Violet from Ripley who was already handing her over to him. He sat on the floor with her in his lap and played with her gently. She grinned up at him the best she could and enjoyed her time with her godfather.
Vic took the time to watch her family with Violet and Sebastian as she tried not to doze off. Luke was walking around and chatting with everyone and keeping a protective eye on them but knew they would be fine. They were in a room full of EMTs after all.
He noted that even Lila had moved to let Vic rest on the couch. He knew she needed the rest and smiled to himself. He never thought he would have a family, not to mention so many friends that he could call family.
Vic woke an hour later when Violet started fussing.
"Hand her over, Maya." Vic said sleepily as she reached for her daughter. Luke held up the nursing blanket while she got her situated and let it fall to gently cover them. Vic watched carefully over her daughter as she nursed. Once she'd had enough Vic handed her to Luke so he could burp her.
Moments later she readjusted herself so that she could nurse the now fussy Sebastian. She took him from Travis as Jennifer held the blanket up for her.
"Looks they're already learning how to take turns."
"Yeah. Good thing too. I am not ready to try tandem feeding again. Hopefully they can keep to this little routine." Vic replied trying not to wince. She'd known breastfeeding was going to hurt and she was doing it with two babies. She just hadn't expected herself to be this sore.
"Good thing you got a pump. So you won't have to if you don't ever feel ready." Jen replied.
"Yeah. Definitely going to be getting our money's worth on that." Vic replied as she checked to make sure Sebastian was still latched properly only to find him sleeping. She chuckled and handed him off to Jen so she could readjust herself and folded the blanket.
"They'll start fussing again in about thirty minutes. Probably need to be changed." Vic added. They were only three days old but had some tiny semblance of a schedule. She laid her head back against the couch and let herself fall asleep again.
Violet found herself in Sullivan's arms and he was just staring down at her. She was wide awake but content in his arms. He could see a curiosity in her eyes that reminded him of Luke, and a bit of Claire. She was always scanning the room to see what was going on. He couldn't help but smile. That curiosity was going to get her into to trouble one day.
Sebastian buried himself into his aunt's chest and slept like a log. Jennifer still couldn't wrap her mind around her big brother finally settling down for good, not to mention that he was a dad now. She was not complaining she could get used to baby cuddles. She couldn't wait to see who these little ones were going to become.
Lucas couldn't stop smiling. His best friend whom he'd never thought would speak to him again was holding his daughter. He didn't think he could possibly ever wrap his head around that one. He looked to see his son snuggled into his sister and the look of bliss on Vic's face as she napped was so pure, he didn't know what to do. He finally felt like he was meant to be here, with all of them. This was his life now and he couldn't wait to see how the rest of it turned out.
As Vic predicted about half an hour after they were done nursing they started fussing. He took both babies in his arms to the nursery and laid them on the double changing table. He doesn't know how he did it, but he managed to get them both into fresh diapers and back downstairs on his own where he found Vic awake and huddled up next to Lila.
