Chapter 7.

Jazmine's POV

Two weeks later…

Today, Cairo and I are at my house spending time together. He actually hasn't been on a business trip in a while it's nice having him here. Right now we're in my bed watching some boring movie that he picked.

"Babe this movie is boring" I announce.

"What do you want to watch then?"

"How about you entertain me?" I give him a seductive look.

"Say no more." Cairo hops on the invitation. He gets on top of me and I giggle. He kisses me sweet and gently. His kisses were always um what's the word? … nice. I wrap my arms and legs around him trying to deepen the kiss. Just when I start to enjoy the kiss his phone starts to ring. I groan.

"I'll just ignore it." But after a minute it keeps ringing.

"On second thought it might be important." Cairo climbs off of me and I whine as he leaves the room. I grab my phone from the nightstand and check my notifications.

One message from Huey

He texts me some witty response from my last text. Huey and I have been texting a good amount since the last time we saw each other the last time we saw each other. We are just getting to know one another, nothing major. 'Huey was cool when he didn't have a stick up his behind.' Small talk some of the time, opinions on topics most of the time that usually end in debates. Right now we were talking about if Obama was a good president. I grin a little as I text him back.

"Who's got you so happy?" I didn't even notice Cairo walk back in.

"No one, just texting Huey," I reply nonchalantly.

"You're texting Huey?!"

I look up from my phone, "Um yea is that a problem?"

"Yes, yes it is. For one he's a male. They always have ulterior motives."

"He's just a friend." I wanted to laugh, he was a male as well. So was he the same?

"I know we were boys back in the day. But I don't trust him. I try to stay away from him and you should too." Okay obviously something happened between these two. But I had nothing to do with it. Why can't I be friends with Huey? I tried to stay away from him before but obviously didn't work.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes." Cairo was making such a big deal out of nothing. Did he not trust me? He should I never gave him no reason to. I would never cheat on anybody in a relationship.

"Trust me baby, you do not want to be friends with people like him."

"Well if it would make you happy I won't text him anymore." I say half heartedly, I was not going to completely cut him off. Huey and I were strictly friends that's it and if I happen to see him somewhere I would still talk to him. I can't help it, that's who I am, a friendly person. There was no need for all of this

"Thank you. Now I have to go to business calls." Cairo stands up.

"You'll still be here in Chicago for tomorrow night for our trip to the museum right?"

He sucks in a breath, "I almost forgot… I won't be here babe, sorry."

"But you promised."

"I did and for that I truly apologize. I have to leave tonight no exceptions. You could take one of your other friends though?" Cairo suggests while walking to the door.

"Yeah I guess. But I wanted to go with you." I open the door for him.

"I want it to go too but I really can't miss this deal. I'll miss you." He tries to make me not be upset with him. Too late I'm already am.

"Yeah me too."

"Please don't be mad. I love you."

"I love you too." He kisses me on the cheek. 'Did I really love him.' All he ever seemed to do was leave. Leave me. I try to focus on the good aspects of him but as the days go by it's getting harder and harder.

"Bye have a nice trip," I put on a fake smile and close the door. 'Why does he always do this?' I'm so aggravated right now. I don't even feel like going to the museum and more. But I don't want to waste my money. I'd be generous and give it to one of my friends to go. I facetime Asia first..

"Hello?"

"Hey Asia. I have tickets for Cairo but he can't so do you and Riley want them?"

"That nigga flaked on you last minute again huh? I told you he ain't shit, especially the light skin niggas."

"He didn't flake. He has something to do for work." I downplay it but her and I both know that's exactly what he did.

"I bet he did. What type of museum is it?"

"African American."

"Hold up let me ask Riley." Asia yells at Riley to get off the game.

"Yeah his ass won't pay me no mind. Lemme' put you on the phone"

"Wait you don't have to-" I'm interrupted by Riley shouting at his video game

"Die bitch!" Gunshots play loudly from Riley's TV.

Then the gunshot fire ceased, "Who that?"

"Jazmine." Asia hands him the phone.

"Yo Mariah! Wassup?"

'Hey Riley. So are you going to go with Asia to the-."

"Museum?" He cackles, "Are you forreal? That shit's gay."

I roll my eyes, "Come on it's an African American one. Our history, it will be interesting."

"Nah that's more my brother's speed. He into all that gay black studies shit and he a gay ass nigga. So you better off asking him."

"Uh I'd rather not." I think back to what Cairo said earlier. I should at least try to respect his wishes because that's what you do in a relationship, you compromise. Even if you find it really stupid and unfair.

"Well find someone else. Me and my girl are not going there."

"Ugh you never wanna do nothing spontaneous. Everything is gay." Asia, obviously annoyed, tells Riley.

"What the fuck do spontaneous mean? And what the fuck do I look like going to a museum?"

"What would the streets think ? I'm a gangsta nigga not no nerd." The couple starts arguing.

"Um… I'm going to go. Talk to y'all later." I awkwardly say and hang up. Well that didn't go well at all. I was not going to call Cindy just yet because I just know she would go off about Cairo. I decide to call Ming next.

"Jazmine, hey. What's up?"

"Nothing much, you?"

"Same."

"So I have these tickets for these African American History Museum Cairo canceled. Do you and Hiro want them?"

"That sucks. I'll ask him right now." The line goes silent for a few.

"Sorry Jaz. I totally forgot we have something planned already for tomorrow. Hiro said Huey's into that kind of though and he could ask him if he wants to go with you?" Not again.

"No,no tell him it's fine. I'll just ask someone else."

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

"Ok. Well bye talk to you soon."

"Byee." I hang up. Well I guess I have no choice but to call Cindy. Even though I doubt Cindy and Caesar will say yes.

"Hey bestie."

"Bitchhh I miss you What's happenin'?" I laugh, Cindy always thought she was from the hood.

"Cin, I saw you yesterday."

"Okay and?"

"Girl whatever. You know that date Cairo and I were going on? The one I told you about."

"Yeah I remember… lemme guess his ain't shit self flaked on yo ass. What was the excuse this time?" Oh my god, Here she goes.

"No he didn't, he just has some business to take care of!"

"Business my ass he couldn't take off one day to spend time with his girl."

"Cindy please don't start. Cairo said it was important." I defend.

"Sure it is. Anyways what you gon' do with the tickets."

"Well that's why I'm calling. Do you and Caesar want them?"

"I wouldn't mind but I'll put Ceez on the phone."

"Jazzy I'm all for my people's history and stuff but museums are not my thing. Though… you know who does." Caesar pauses.

"Who?" Please don't say it. Please don't say it. Please don't.

"Huey." I facepalm.

"So I've heard."

"Yeah you should definitely ask him."

"Hm, I'll consider. Put Cindy back on please."

"So you gonna' take Huey with you?"

"Probably not."

"Then what are you going to do?"

"Try to see if I can get a refund. If not then oh well I'll just have to miss out I guess."

"I hope it works out. I'll call you back later. A bitch bouta' get some." I didn't need to know all of that. 'Ew.'

"Okay Freaky! but alright have a good night or a good time shall I say?"

"Mind that business. Night." Cindy hangs up. I wish I had the same option. Here she was getting it on while I sat here with my boyfriend gone and left to figure out what to do with these tickets. I sigh and fall onto my bed. What am I going to do? It was time to face the facts Huey going with me makes the most sense but I have to keep Cairo's wishes in mind. 'Hmm' He didn't say I couldn't see Huey just not text him and he did say take one of my other friends. Huey is a friend.. I ponder with the decision I'm going to make. 'I really don't want to miss out on this.' Should I call Him or use facetime? Facetime seems too friendly but phone calls are so business like and serious. Also, I never facetimed Huey it would most likely be weird. And I'm losing focus. Quickly before I change my mind I click Huey's contact and call him.

"Hello."

"Dubois. You can call me but not text me back." Huey's deep voice speaks into the phone 'Oops I forgot about that.' Probably should have texted him back, earlier.

"Sorry about that Freeman but I have a question for you."

"I'm listening."

"Would you like to-" I become nervous and pause for a little too long.

"Huh? Are you still there?"

"Yes would you like to come to the Dusable Museum of African American History, with me tomorrow?" I blurt out. 'Oh god that came out way too fast.' The line goes silent. I fiddle with my hair as I anxiously wait for Huey's answer.

"Sure I'll go with you."

"Perfect."

"But… Is this supposed to be a date cus' I don't think Cairo would be too happy." I know there's a smirk on his face.

I roll my eyes even though he can't see, "No it's not a date. Just two friends hanging out."

"Oh good because I'm no one's side dude."

I laugh lightly then gasp, "I would never, how could you think that of me dear friend?"

"Never know what to expect but Cairo won't mind?"

"No of course not, he wanted me to take a friend since he can't make it." I lie a little.

"Why is he missing out anyway?"

"Business trip."

"Business trip… right," Huey adds sarcasm to his statement.

"Why did you say it like that?"

"Nothing. I'll see you tomorrow. Want me to pick you up?"

"Yeah. That's fine."

"Alright, bye.

"Bye Hueyyy see you tomorrow." I smile and hang up. I was so happy. This is good now I get to go. However, I do feel guilty, I did tell Cairo I was going to stop but he promised me he was staying. So in theory it was his fault. I know one thing though… I can't let him find out who I'm going with.
