A cute one shot (at least, I think so)

Enjoy!

Long Distance

Rachel's phone rang just as she'd got into bed and she rushed to answer it.

"I miss you!" she said automatically when she answered the phone, as she always did, even though they spoke pretty much every single day.

Jesse, her boyfriend of three years, laughed. "I miss you too, babe." A few seconds passed before he asked his next question. "How was your day?" he asked.

"Classes were good." She spoke. "I finally finished the essay I've been spending days on so I'm happy about that."

"I'm proud of you, Rach. You've been stressing about that."

"It's definitely taken some stress off of me." Rachel said in retaliation.

This was a regular occurrence for Rachel and Jesse. The couple had met during Rachel's junior year of high school and Rachel had instantly fallen head over heels for the senior. However, they didn't get long together before Jesse was off to a different state for college and Rachel was left in Lima. However, they were able to make it work, and they made time to speak to each other every day, even if it were only to catch up on each other's day. The couple made plans for Rachel to follow Jesse to the same college and when it came to applying, it was her first, and only, choice.

It was only after some persuasion from her dads, and even from Jesse, that she chose another college just to be on the safe side. A college which happened to be on the other side of the country.

Acceptance day came with two letters. The letter for her second choice was opened first and she was pleased to see that she'd been accepted. With bated breath, she opened the letter from her first-choice college. With her parents and Jesse by her side, she discovered that she hadn't been accepted.

There were many tears but eventually, Jesse told Rachel that they would make it work in the same way they'd been doing for the past year, and that nothing had to change.

Two years later and Jesse's promise was still going strong. It was hard at times, but it made seeing each other that much better.

"Have you got an early class tomorrow?" Jesse asked.

"No, but I have a rehearsal I need to get to at 10." Rachel replied.

They spoke on what was going to occur for the both of them the next day, something that they did most days when they spoke.

Conversation carried on for a couple more hours until they both needed to sleep.

The next morning, Rachel woke up early so she could do her regular morning yoga and jog before her morning rehearsal.

She looked at her phone and saw that her phone call with Jesse was still connected.

"Jess?" she called softly through the phone.

It took a few times but eventually she heard the tell-tale signs that he'd also woken up.

"Did we fall asleep on the phone again?" he asked. Rachel could tell that he had a small sleepy grin on his face.

"I think we might have done." Rachel said with a shy giggle. "Almost as good as waking up next to each other."

Jesse laughed. "I love you Rach." He said.

"I love you too." she replied.

"I'll speak to you tonight." Finally, they both put the phone down.
