Chapter Twenty-Eight

Seleine P.O.V.

"It was you?" I whispered.

Pluto looked up at me. Her eyes were full of tears. This can't be true. There's no way that my best friend could be the one that would destroy my sister's marriage.

"Why?" I asked.

She sighed and looked back down at Endymion. Her face was full of love when she looked at him. The scene in front of my pulled at my heartstrings.

She looked back up at me. "Joseph's soul is inside him," she whispered. "He is the reincarnation of Joseph."

I stared at her in disbelief. Joseph was Pluto's soulmate. They had met before I was born. This was when Pluto didn't know she was a senshi. She found out about her destiny and decided that she wasn't going to go through a life of battle. She declined the henshin stick.

When Pluto and Joseph were running away together, they got attacked by a youma. The youma killed Joseph. It nearly killed Pluto too, but just before Joseph died, he told Pluto to take the stick and avenge his death. He told her to live.

I backed away. "I didn't want to believe it, but before Serenity and Endymion were married in the past we met and had an affair. We both fell in love, but he knew his destiny. I didn't know who he was in the past until Beryl killed us all.

"In this time, I kept away. Endymion and I gradually grew closer, but I never initiated anything. I didn't want to ruin their marriage. But then one day, Endymion kissed me. I ran away from him because I couldn't bear destroying their future. He found me and told me that they both had decided to see other people while they were still married."

That's what Serenity had said. They may not be in love anymore, but they cared enough to let each other go. I wasn't sure how to react. I didn't know what to do.

I backed out of the room and into the hallway. I turned to walk outside when a hand latched onto my arm. I was yanked back against the wall and didn't even try to get away.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Serenity seethed. "He is the king of my kingdom. If you had killed him, I would have had to sentence you to death."

Her eyes were full of rage. I knew she was right, but I was still in shock from everything I'd just found out.

She let me go and backed up. "I think it's time for you to go back to your time," she whispered.

I looked into her eyes. "You're not serious," I uttered. She didn't even flinch. I looked down at the ground as tears started to form. I nodded and walked away from her.

As soon as I turned the corner, I let myself go. The tears turned into streams. I could no longer walk. I dropped to my knees. I couldn't hold myself up anymore. I slid over to the wall and brought my knees up to my chest. I rested my head on my knees as my sorrows poured out of me.

I didn't want to leave her. I didn't want to leave the more or less peaceful time I unknowingly walked into. I wanted to share this time with my sister and niece. I wanted to be away from all the evil I had to endure.

I don't know how long I sat there crying. It felt like days but could have been minutes. When I finally got up, I locked myself in my chambers.

Some Time Later

Zoisite and I had been walking for hours. I'm glad we planned ahead. Zoisite wasn't terribly excited to escort me to meet Kylian. He didn't deny or complain about escorting me, but his body language clearly showed he was displeased.

Finally, we got to the shrine that Kylian and I were supposed to meet at. He was pacing. He looked up and finally noticed we had arrived. I held my hand out telling Zoisite to stay. I continued walking toward Kylian. He still couldn't look me in the eyes.

"We don't have much time," he said. He continued to pace.

"Why don't we have much time?" I asked.

He stopped and looked at me. "They are always watching and listening," he said.

"Who?" I asked.

He kept pacing. I was starting to get irritated. I didn't know if he was on something or if he was just crazy.

"Your father!"

I froze. My father? What could my father want with Kylian?

He finally stopped pacing and faced me. He fidgeted and sat down to calm himself. I sat down beside him. I tried not to rush him, but this was getting exhausting.

"I didn't want to do what I did to you," he breathed. He looked me in the eyes. "I loved you. I still love you. I would never dream of hurting you. But that evening, your father came to me. He told me the heart of darkness needed to come into her full powers.

"At first, I didn't understand what he wanted. But then I remembered what you told me. You said that when you came of age and could finally understand what you were, your mother brought a seer to you. You told me that she said you would be the heart of darkness. That you would be the queen of evil, but she said there was a way to counteract that from happening. They said that if you remained pure, you wouldn't embrace the evil inside you. You told me that she said you could never be intimate with someone that wasn't your soul mate. You said that if you did, your full powers would erupt.

"That's when I knew what he wanted me to do. He told me to do whatever it would take to make you into the heart of darkness. I had refused. I said that I would never do something like that to you. I told him I loved you and that I was willing to die for you.

"He had suspected I would say that, though. Then he threatened my family. He knew that I'd lost my mother when I was born and that I would do anything to protect my sister and father. I thought that we were soulmates. I thought that it wouldn't matter if I did what he said because we were always meant to be together. So, I did as he asked.

"It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I'm so sorry," He cried. He dropped to his knees and reached for my hands. I couldn't move. I wanted to pull away from him, but I just couldn't. All I could do was blink at him. He held my hand to his face and let his tears touch my hand. I felt in my soul that what he was saying was true. "Never forgive me for what I did to you. I will always be in your debt for not taking my life from me. I will never forgive myself for the horror that I put you through. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

He just kept repeating that he was sorry. I felt my body begin to shake. My heart was racing, and my breathing became ragged. I felt the hairs at the nape of my neck stand up. I felt sweat on my forehead. My heart was in pain.

Finally, I stood up and yanked my hand away from his face. "Do you think that's supposed to make me feel better?" I spat. "Do you think I feel comfort knowing what you did to me wasn't what you wanted? That you loved me. That my father forced you to do this to me?"

I didn't give him a chance to respond. "I was beginning to move on from what you did to me, but now I know the truth. Now I know that it was my own flesh and blood that did this to me," I screamed. I was heaving. I don't know how I was breathing right now. Thank Gods this place was neutral to magic, otherwise I would have created quite a few natural disasters.

Zoisite ran to my side. He stepped in front of me to protect me from Kylian. He put his arm out in front of me. I pushed his arm away from me. He looked back at me eyes wide. I was tired of being protected.

I stepped forward to Kylian and looked down on him. "Despite the fact you raped me in order to save your family, this doesn't change what you did to me," I said. I was beginning to calm down. I was still furious, but the anger was gradually flowing out of me. "Why did you decide to tell me this now?"

Kylian was still on his knees. He took a deep breath. "Your father came to me again," he whispered. "He told me that I didn't finish the job. He said that I did manage to get you your full powers, but you refuse to use them. He said he needed you to use them for his plan."

"What plan?"

He flinched at my sharpness. "I don't know. He doesn't tell me anything. It only slipped that he had a plan in the first place."

I looked up and turned my head. Tears burned my eyes. I wasn't going to cry. Not this time. I've had enough crying. I've had enough letting people make decisions. I was done waiting for things to happen.

I turned on my heel and walked away. My thoughts were too loud in my head. I didn't know if Kylian called after me. It wasn't until I got out of the village that I knew Zoisite was behind me silently protecting me.

When I got close to the Moon Kingdom, I stopped and sighed. This place has done nothing good for me. If I could, I'd burn it to the ground.

I started walking again when I felt a sinister presence. Zoisite jumped to my side. We both scanned the area and saw no one.

I turned to Zoisite. "Find the others and guarantee their safety," I ordered him. He nodded his head and shimmered.

I started running to the area where I felt the evil presence. It still took me quite a few minutes to get to the area even when I was running at full speed. I scanned the area. The presence was faint. They left quickly.

I walked to the wall of the closest building and turned the corner. I bumped my head on human flesh. I fell backwards and landed right on my ass. Someone started uttering apologies. I looked up and was met with Mars's purple eyes.

"Mars?" I asked.

She fidgeted. "You felt the presence too?" She asked me. I nodded my head curtly.

"What were you thinking? What if you saw Serenity?" I asked.

She blinked at me and turned pale. "I-I don't know," she stuttered. She looked down at the ground and fidgeted with her shoes. "I must go. Kunzite is waiting for training."

I nodded my head and she scurried off. My gaze followed after her. I turned back to the building in front of me. I turned the corner where Mars came from. I put my hand to the side of the building and felt for energy.

When I was finally satisfied with my sleuthing, I decided to head to the training area. My thoughts kept going back to Hikari. Did he really want Kylian to turn me into the heart of darkness? Why would he do that to me? Didn't he love me? What's his plan?

I started to get a headache. This was too much for me to think about all at once. First Serenity is having an affair with Fighter, then Pluto is having an affair with Endymion, now my father is behind my rape? My life was seriously screwed up. This is the kind of stuff Jerry Springer would eat up.

Suddenly, there was an explosion followed by screams. I started running in the direction of the screams. It was across the village in front of the palace. The screaming kept going. The explosions kept happening.

Citizens started running in the opposite direction as me. I had to run against the current. I kept getting pushed back. I spotted a cart beside a building. I ran toward the cart and jumped on top of it. I pushed my legs as hard as I could to gain momentum. I used the winds to push me up to the top of a building.

I looked up and saw dark clouds. Lighting shot out of the sky. I wasn't sure if Jupiter commanded it or not. Then I saw smoke. It didn't matter if Mars caused a fire, someone could die.

I started running toward the fire. I got to the end of the buildings and jumped down. I landed on the ground and took off running.

Finally, I got to the site of the chaos. What I saw was the worst thing I could possibly imagine.

The senshi were fighting Hikari. Hikari's gifts were like Pluto's and I's. He could control the energy that people overused. Every time someone attacked, there was energy in the attack that wasn't needed. He collects that energy and creates malicious shadows to counteract with.

Pluto commanded her tendrils and Saturn brought up the dead to fight the shadows my father created. The Inners commanded their elements to fight the shadows. Venus would have been able to destroy them. The shadows were made of hate. Venus's powers were created from the love surrounding her. They are polar opposites.

Neptune and Uranus were fighting back to back. It was mainly Neptune fighting because Uranus still didn't have her full powers. If there was ever a time to get her full powers, it would be now.

Small Lady was battling Lilith. They were toe to toe. They both possessed enough moon power to cause severe damage to each other. I was very impressed with Small Lady's skill. She had a killer calm just like me. She didn't get too emotional in her fight.

What I feared the most, was Queen Serenity fighting the Dark Serenity. I ran to the fight. I wasn't sure the queen could handle her other self. Where the hell was my Shittenou?

Shadows halted me from getting to them faster. I shot light out through my hands to dissipate them, but there were too many. We were being overwhelmed. I stopped trudging forward.

I looked up to the sky. I closed my eyes and raised my hands toward the sky. I squeezed my eyes as I forced my energy into light. I opened my eyes and saw the light pushing the clouds out of the sky.

I dropped my head back to what was going on around me. As the clouds opened, the rays of day destroyed the shadows. When the shadows were gone the senshi fell to the ground. They used up too much energy. My body was weak as well.

I looked to the Queen, and she was still fighting her other self. There was a scream. I turned and saw Lilith had grabbed onto Small Lady's arm. I wasn't sure what she was doing but I ran to her. I glanced to the Queen. She had turned away from her other self. The dark Serenity took advantage of it. She created a dark stake and plunged it into the queens back three times.

I screamed. I didn't know who to run to. My Shittenou came out of nowhere and battled Lilith. Jadeite pulled Small Lady back and put a hand to the place where Lilith had grabbed her. Zoistie, Nephrite, and Kunzite were battling Lilith.

I ran toward the queen. My vision was blurry. I screamed and the dark Serenity clamped her hands over her ears. She fell to the ground as I gradually got closer.

She looked up. My voice was raw. I got to the dark Serenity and grabbed her by the neck. I threw her into a nearby column. I threw her so hard she went straight through the column and hid the wall. She dropped to the ground and left a huge dent in the wall. I stalked toward her.

She clutched her stomach. She looked up to me. Her eyes showed immense fear. "You wouldn't kill your future niece, would you?"

I stopped abruptly. She smiled and threw a burst of power out at me. I fell to the ground by the queen. I jumped up but she was already gone. I turned to where Lilith was. My father was by her side. She was leaning on him heavily. Hikari locked eyes with me. I felt the rage inside my churn. He grinned and they vanished.

I turned to the Queen and dropped to my knees. I picked her up and set her on my lap as I examined her wounds. "I can fix this," I stuttered. I brought my hand over her wounds.

She pushed my hand away. I looked up to her face. She shook her head. "You know what will happen if you heal me," she whispered.

"I don't care. I will gladly die so you can live."

She smiled lightly. She blinked her eyes slowly. She swallowed and inhaled. "I'm not the one that will save the world this time," she breathed. Tears poured out of my eyes. She squeezed my hand. Her warmth was turning cold. I bent my head and let the tears fall on her stomach.

"Seleine," she whispered. I looked back up at her. She was crying. I softly wiped a tear away. She brought her hand up and held my hand to her face. She closed her eyes and leaned in to my touch.

She opened her eyes again. "Take care of Small Lady. She's so scared of being queen," she whispered.

I shook my head. "No. No. Mercury will come and heal you. You will take care of Small Lady yourself," I sobbed. The shakes were uncontrollable. Serenity's body was going cold.

"I'm sorry," she whispered quietly.

"Don't be. I was out of control."

She smiled lightly. Her eyes flinched as the pain shuttered through her.

"I love you," she said opening her eyes with earnest love.

Her eyes began to flutter shut. Her chest stopped moving. I searched her aura for life. This couldn't be how she ended. It just couldn't. I found no sense of life.

I squeezed her body closer to me and shrieked. This wasn't happening. This had to be a dream. I felt myself losing control, but I didn't care. I rocked back and forth. I clutched my sister's lifeless body to my chest.

I screamed again. I didn't stop the tears from coming. I couldn't save my sister. I couldn't save my sister from turning dark. I couldn't save Venus. I couldn't stop my sister from killing Venus. If I couldn't do those simple things, how could I be expected to save the world?

My mother was right. I was always meant to destroy the world, not save it. I was a monster. I caused this. I caused all of this hate and violence. If I'd never been born, this would have never happened. The senshi would remember everything the way it was and be happy. Endymion and Serenity would be happily married. Neptune and Uranus would be together forever. Saturn wouldn't have to relive her pain that I'd caused her.

"You should have killed me," I whispered.

Footsteps struck the ground behind me. Someone was coming closer. I didn't want to see anyone. I didn't want to see the disappointment in anyone's faces any more.

"Seleine," a voice behind me said.

"Stay away from me!" I bellowed. I started breathing heavily again.

The light that I'd created was gone. The sky had turned black again. Thunder boomed and cracked. Lightning cast down around us.

"This is my fault," I said shaking. Their blood was on my hands. If I'd never come back, everything would be the way it was. "This was my fault."

"Stop it."

I turned my head to the intruders. Mars and Mercury were standing right behind me. Jupiter was trailing behind them. I looked back at Mars. She was livid. Her shoulders were heaving. Mercury's eyes were hard.

Rain started pouring down on top of us. The wind blew the rain into my eyes. I blinked and squinted to see them.

"Stop it," Mars said again. Her hair was sticking to the sides of her face. Tears fell down her cheeks. I don't know how I could tell she was crying. I watched the tear fall off her face. I watched it slowly fall into a puddle at her feet. I slowly brought my eyes back up to her face. "Stop feeling sorry for yourself."

I squinted my eyes more. She decided now was the best time to hash it out. She was a fool. My sister died despite my being here.

"How dare-"

"You don't get to say this is all your fault," she interrupted me spraying rain water. "This happened to her, despite the fact she was even more powerful than you. You didn't do this to her. She did this to herself."

Her words struck me. She did this to herself? The rain stopped. The wind stopped. The thunder stopped booming and the lightning stopped striking. It felt like time had even stopped.

"Serenity knew what she was doing," Mercury said. Her hair had turned to a dark blue. "She knew that if she fought her other self by herself, she would most likely die. She decided that on her own. She knew that she wasn't going to be the one to save her."

"Our princess isn't the smartest person in the world," Jupiter said approaching me. Mud covered her boots and legs. Her pony tail no longer bounced with life. It was dull and flat. "But she knew that it was her time. The Queen was the one thing that the Dark Serenity hated the most. She knew that."

"The Dark Serenity needed to get rid of The Queen. She didn't want to be her anymore," Mars said.

"We should have known. We should have known that this wasn't what our princess wanted. But we wanted to believe that she wanted this future just like we did," Mercury choked.

"This wasn't your fault. We played a big part in the chaos," Jupiter's words cracked with emotion. She clenched her fists by her side. "But this wasn't all our fault either. It's Serenity's fault."

"It didn't matter to us who Serenity married," Mars whispered. She was looking at the ground. She started to get up. The anger in her face was gone. "We would have loved her no matter who she chose."

Jupiter unclenched her fists. "We wouldn't have forced her to marry Endymion. We just wanted her to be happy. She could have told us that this wasn't what she'd wanted, and we would have listened," Jupiter sobbed.

"We never believed in sacrifice," Mars said approaching me. She dropped to her knees in front of me. She looked at Serenity and started weeping. "Her happiness was the absolute last thing we would ever consider sacrificing."

Mars collapsed on my sister's body. She started to shake violently. Mars wailed as she felt Serenity's coldness. "How could you leave us all alone?" She screamed. She violently cried in my lap.

Mars grabbed Serenity and started shaking her. "How could you leave us all alone?" She screamed again. I felt the heartbreak she was experiencing.

Jupiter came up behind Mars. She pulled Mars away from Serenity. Mars threw her arms around Jupiter and wailed on her shoulder. Jupiter squeezed her as she too started sobbing.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw Mercury standing beside me. She was looking at Serenity and the girls. Tears slipped down her eyes. She turned her head away from Serenity's lifeless body and commanded the tears to stop.

She looked back down to me. "This wasn't your fault. If anything, you saved her. You saved her from the life she no longer wanted."
