Chapter Thirty-Four

Seleine P.O.V.

Hotaru shot up from her sleep. The sheer terror she exhibited awoke me from my bliss. Haruka was still holding my hand. She was leaning against the arm of the sofa. I smiled at the purity. Then I felt it.

"Momma, they're coming," Hotaru cried.

I shook Haruka's shoulder. "Haruka, wake up."

Her eyes fluttered open. She grimaced as she tried to rub the sleep from her eyes. "What's wrong?" She opened her eyes. Her expression changed from sleepy bliss to terror.

"Seleine!" Michiru and Rei burst through the doors. Hotaru moved to the end of the couch and clutched the blanket to her chest. I got up and walked through the palace to the outside. The sky was dark. There were no clouds, no stars, no earth, and no sun.

I turned to Michiru. "What did you see?"

She gulped. "They're here."

"They're waiting for us," Rei finished.

I turned back to the palace grounds. I felt their presence. My blood started to run cold. I had to prepare myself.

I turned back to Michiru. "Tell the others. Get ready and meet me in the palace grounds," I ordered. Michiru and Rei ran off. Haruka stepped forward.

"Take Hotaru downstairs to Kaorinite. Have her prepare a tonic to soothe her nerves. We don't need Hotaru panicking. This is too much for her child mind to handle. We need her focused. We can't have her destroying the moon when they attack," I ordered.

She nodded her head. She didn't leave. "Haruka," I said snapping her out of her daze. She looked up at me. There was nothing but fear in her eyes. She grabbed my hand and pulled me to her. Her lips crashed against mine. My hands climbed to her hair. Her tongue opened my mouth. My heart pounded in my chest. Or was that her heart? We were so close I couldn't tell my heartbeat from hers.

We pulled away breathless. Her eyes held my gaze. I wanted to look away so badly. I couldn't be flustered in a time like this.

"I love you," she whispered. My whole body vibrated. I've been waiting so long to be reunited with her.

"Go," I said.

She pulled back and regained her composure. She nodded her head and left.

I turned to the palace grounds and tried to steady my heart. I called for my sword. It appeared before me easily. I closed my eyes and kneeled to the ground forcing the sword through the soil. I soaked up the energy from the soil as I called to her. The goddess I was named after, Selene.

"Please answer," I pleaded with her under my breath.

Time stopped. "You called for me?"

I looked up. She was so beautiful. She wore a long ivory dress that had small silver stars stitched into it that I almost didn't see. Her porcelain skin stuck out against her black as night hair. Her eyes were a pale blue. She resembled the night.

"I know I have no right to call for your assistance," I said. "But I'm scared." A tear rolled down my cheek.

"I'm afraid I won't be able to defeat my father. And if I don't, my sister will be lost forever." I made an ugly sobbing sound. I dipped my head down and attempted to regain my composure. I waved my hair back and looked up at her. "I have no right to ask for your help, but I fear we will lose without your help. So please, I'm begging you."

I couldn't stop sobbing. I couldn't stop crying in this important moment. She probably thought I was pathetic. I'm surprised she even answered my call.

I felt a soft touch pushing my shoulder back. I looked up and she was kneeling before me. Her eyes had softened and showed compassion.

"I know your pain," she sang. I don't think I've ever heard anything so alluring. "You are a true descendant of my blood line."

My eyebrows bunched up.

She chuckled. "Yes, I know who you are Seleine. You are the heart of darkness. The one who was supposed to destroy the world," she said. The rejection. This was it. "But those identities are only a fraction of who you used to be. You are the moon and all it's stars. You are the light and the dark. You are a true daughter of the moon."

I attempted to argue but was silenced. She looked down at the ground. She picked up a rock and touched her forefinger with it. A drop of blood seeped out.

"Open your mouth," she commanded.

My jaw dropped open without me even telling it to. She tipped my head back and let the tiny drop glide into my mouth. It was like there was lightning in my veins. I made a screeching sound as I fell backwards. My vision darkened as my body started to convulse.

I opened my eyes and looked around me. I was lying on the ground. No one was around so I hadn't been out for long. I stood up and looked down at myself. My fuku changed. I was no longer in a dress type suit. I wore black shorts and matching boots that went up mid-thigh. I wore a silver bracelet with a black diamond in the center of my left wrist. There was an identical cuff on my right bicep. My midriff was exposed. I had a long silver cape behind me. I wore a black necklace with a small silver star placed inside.

My breasts were just barely covered with a black top with little silver stars weaved into them. The top reminded me of Selene's dress. She had stars woven into her dress. She granted me my deepest wish. I was given a power that wasn't evil.

"Seleine?" I turned around. Pluto was staring at me. "What happened?"

I looked down at myself and smiled. "It was a gift."

The time for excitement over my new outfit was over. "Is everyone ready?" I asked. I walked toward her. She nodded and got out of my way. She walked by my side as we descended the staircase. Everyone was in the courtyard. They all looked up at me.

"Todays the day," I said. I looked to each one of them. They weren't ready, but we have no choice. "Don't die on me."

A hint of a smile graced their faces. "Everyone get to your positions. They're almost here."

Everyone, but the inner senshi and Fighter departed the courtyard. They looked nervous. They fanned out to flank me. Jupiter and Mercury on my left, Fighter and Mars on my right. A crash erupted from the sky as Hikari and Serenity appeared.

"What a nice welcome party you've gathered for us daughter," my father purred. The senshi grew tense. Serenity's black gown flowed around her. Her hair was pulled back into a braid. Her lips were a dark red. Neptune's vision flashed in my mind. Endymion's blood.

"Too bad we won't be here to entertain my darling," Hikari said. I snapped my head back to him, but my vision had turned dark again.

Setsuna P.O.V.

I felt Lilith before I saw her. There was something different about her. She seemed irritated. She appeared like a whirl wind. Her anger and lust for power startled me.

"This is my task?" She asks a person who is not here. "They are lowly creatures. Wasting my time battling them is an insult."

Neptune rolled her eyes and called forth a sea dragon made of water. Lilith narrowed her eyes at the apparition. With a wave of her hand, she commanded tendrils to attack the beast. The tendrils prodded the dragon tearing wounds into the watered flesh.

Saturn stepped forward and held out her glaive. She closed her eyes and tilted her head back. She started to glow a deep purple. Hands shot out of the ground. Slowly, more parts started to rise from the ground until they were complete bodies. I had thought they would look like zombies, but they looked like normal humans, except their skin was grey.

The bodies grabbed a hold of Lilith. Lilith tried to break free. Ligaments detached themselves from the dead, but they persisted. They weren't going to let go.

I walked forward. I stood in front of Lilith. Her eyes grew wide. I cupped her chin and slowly seeped the energy from her body. A barrier surrounded her body. One hundred years flew by in a mere few seconds. Her body began to deteriorate till all that was left of her were her bones.

The tendrils dropped to the ground and dissipated. Neptune let go of her dragon and Saturn returned the dead to their resting place.

"That was too easy," Uranus said behind me.

"Yes it was," I agreed.

"It's not surprising. She got cocky and didn't focus," Neptune reasoned. "She thought we would be easy to defeat."

I nodded my head. I turned to Uranus, "What now?" I asked her.

She looked down at the ground. "Saturn, Neptune go help Kakyuu and Saphir. Pluto go to the front lines with the Shittenou, they may need help with the youma," Uranus ordered.

"What about you?" Neptune asked even though she clearly knew.

"I'm going to help the Inners fight Serenity," she said. We all nodded our heads and departed.

Haruka P.O.V.

I ran as fast as the wind could carry me. This would be the hardest battle. The Inners and Fighter had to fight their friend without killing her and try to bring her back. I hadn't realized how far apart we all were.

I reached them. Serenity was holding Fighter by the neck with one hand and fighting Mercury and Jupiter with the other. Mars was kneeling on the ground. She wasn't moving. She was looking ahead. She was in some kind of trance.

Serenity looked at Mercury and Jupiter like they were irritating pests. She curled her hand and created bands around their necks. The bands continued to get tighter and tighter.

I ran to Mars. I shook her body. She was lifeless.

"Mars!" I screamed. "Snap out of it!" I continued to shake her shoulders, but she didn't budge.

Fear erupted in my stomach. I slowly stood back up. Fighter was losing her energy to struggle.

"No. No," I pleaded pushing my fingers into my hair. I didn't stand a chance. If I fought Serenity, I would die. I wouldn't even be able to put a dent in her wall. I started pulling my hair. Tears of frustration crept over my eyelids.

"No!" I screamed. Time stopped.

I looked around me. A woman crashed to the ground. She was covered in bronze armor. She wore a helmet that covered her cheek bones and nose. Wings were etched into the helmet. She held onto a sword. The blade was silver with runes sketched into it. The hilt was black with gold wings stretching out. She was a Valkyrie.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"My name is Skögul," her voice boomed. Her blonde hair waved in an invisible wind. "You are of my kin."

I was a descendent of a Valkyrie?

"Your power and temper comes from my clan," she explained. "Your great grandmother was a Valkyrie who married a king from the planet Uranus.

"You've failed many of my tests, but you passed the one's most important. For that, I give you my power," she said. "Use it wisely, for I can and will take it away should you prove out of control."

I thought back to what Seleine had told me. You have to prove to the gods that you can be trusted to keep yourself in check.

I kneeled and bent my head. "I swear to honor the Valkyrie cause," I said. I looked up. Her green eyes narrowed. "I swear to reign in my anger when it threatens to go out of control. I swear to honor you, Skögul."

A grin graced her mouth. She pulled out her sword and sliced into her skin. Then, she struck the blade into my chest.

I screamed and crashed to the ground. My vision began to go dark. I blinked repeatedly to clear my vision. I woke up next to Mars. She was still in a trance. Mercury and Jupiter were clutching the bands around their necks. Fighter wasn't moving.

I stood up. I was in a different uniform. I was wearing a dark blue long-sleeved shirt with black shoulder armor. I wore black shorts and a pair of dark blue boots that went up mid-thigh. I wore a belt that held a dagger and a sword. It was Skögul's sword. I pulled it out of its scabbard and admired it.

I heard a whimper. I looked up. Mercury and Jupiter were losing energy. I grabbed the sword and plunged it into the ground. The ground began to quake. Underneath me, the ground started cracking. The ground separated itself.

Serenity looked down at the ground. Fighter kicked her in the stomach and flipped to land beside me. She scrutinized my fuku and rolled her eyes.

The bands around Mercury and Jupiter's neck vanished. Mercury was too close to the crack in the ground. She started to fall. Jupiter reached into the crack and grabbed Mercury's hand.

Serenity recovered and charged toward Fighter and I. We took our stance. I grabbed my sword from the ground and pointed it at her. Just then, an arrow shot out. Fire trapped Serenity in a circle. I turned and saw Mars holding her bow. She was dropping her bow when I turned to Serenity. She tried to walk through the fire but got burned.

"Don't be stupid Serenity," Mars said grinning. "You're messing with hellfire."

Michiru P.O.V.

The garden wasn't far, but it still felt like we were running out of time. We got to the gazebo. The Witches 5 were in the gazebo holding hands and chanting. I didn't see Kakyuu or Saphir anywhere. I slowly walked forward gaining my bearings when they appeared.

"Easy princess," Saphir smirked. "We were just cloaking ourselves."

Kakyuu opened her mouth to give me an update, when Saturn and I were blown back into the gazebo. I lifted my head up. Saphir and Kakyuu were still standing. There was no one around.

I turned to Saturn. She was clutching her shoulder. Blood ran into her sleeve. I moved to her and helped her up. She leaned against my shoulder as we searched for our attacker. Then he appeared.

"Endymion?"
