The Notebook
Stacie Conrad was currently sitting on the bleachers writing in her trusty notebook which she always kept on her no matter where she went. She was sitting there while Beca Mitchell, her best friend, was in the middle of soccer practice. Beca was the star senior soccer player and one of the most popular girls in school, while Stacie was her nerdy best friend. Yeah Stacie had the looks of a model, but she had the brains of a genius. She was seen as the nerd in large part to the fact that all she did was talk about science and the fact she was even the captain of the debate team, not to mention the science club. Despite being Beca's best friend Stacie still got harassed every now and then for her glasses or her love for science. Beca did her best to teach those people a lesson but Stacie always told the smaller girl not to risk getting in trouble due to her soccer.
Stacie pushes her glasses up her nose as she continues to write in her notebook. She had never let anyone see the contents of the notebook, not even Beca has. Beca had always let Stacie be when it came to the notebook, she knew just how much it meant to Stacie. Stacie looks towards her best friend who is lining up for a penalty kick and smiles as Beca drills the ball past the goalkeeper. Stacie looked at Beca give a freshmen pointers and couldn't help but smile at how selfless the tiny captain can be.
Thirty minutes later practice had come to an end and Stacie stayed in her spot like she usually would and waited for Beca to finish changing. She was so focused on writing in her notebook that she didn't hear the footsteps approaching her till her notebook got snatched from her grasp.
"Hey!" Stacie exclaimed as she looked up and froze.
Standing there with the notebook in hand was non-other than Chloe Beale and her best friend Aubrey Posen. The two people who always made Stacie's high school life hell on earth.
"Well well well, what do we have here?" Chloe said waiving the notebook.
"Just please give it back." Stacie pleaded afraid of what might happen if they read what's in there.
"And miss the chance to read what the girl genius has written?" Chloe smirked.
"I think not." Aubrey said with a smirk.
Stacie felt her heart sink when she heard the pages being flipped and saw the pair of blue eyes skimming through them.
"Ahhh this is golden!" Chloe exclaimed.
"Ohh what's it say Chlo?" Aubrey asked excitedly.
Chloe cleared her throat before reading "I can't get her out of my head. No matter how hard I try I can't stop thinking about her." Chloe read before looking towards Stacie "Why miss Conrad, I never pegged you to be gay."
Stacie could feel the tears begin to welt up in her eyes as her heart started to race.
Chloe chuckled before continuing "When I close my eyes all I see are those eyes. Those beautiful dark blue eyes and that smirk, god that smirk. All I do when she is around is just admire her beauty and appreciate her personality. The way she can make light of any situation but still be the badass she is. I don't think she realizes just how perfect she is, and I just wish I could tell her. If I could, I'd tell her how happy she makes me by just sitting next to me, how happy she makes me by just acknowledging me, how happy she makes by just being my friend. Too bad I probably won't ever get the chance because she's the star athlete and I'm just her geeky best friend. Talk about a cliché. Too bad she's the Beca Mitchell and I'm just Stacie Conrad." Chloe finished with a laugh along with Aubrey.
Stacie meanwhile had tears running down her face. She couldn't believe this was happening and of all people it had to be these two. She knew that once they told everyone that her life would be torture. She knew everyone would be looking at her and talking about her. She didn't even want to think about what was going to happen when Beca found out.
"Awww the geek has a crush on her best friend." Aubrey said.
"Told you this was golden." Chloe laughed.
Stacie couldn't take it anymore, so she stood up and took off without even attempting to grab her notebook back. What was the use she thought, they already knew. She ran as fast as she could with tears still falling as she avoided whatever students were still in school. She quickly made it to her car and locked herself in the driver side as she slammed her head against the steering wheel.
"Why? Why did this have to happen?" She cried out.
Stacie didn't care about the fact they still had the notebook because all the other pages pretty much contained the same stuff. A bunch of pages about her feelings towards Beca. The rest were just drawings and random thoughts. That was the main reason she never let anyone see the notebook and why she always kept it on her, the notebook itself was her biggest secret. Now however with it in Chloe and Aubrey's hands, it was for sure going to be exposed.
Stacie was borderline sobbing when someone tapped on the passenger window. Stacie didn't bother to move a muscle till she heard the voice.
"Stace? Please open up." Beca said through the glass.
Stacie hesitantly unlocked the doors.
Beca tossed her bag in the backseat before sitting in the passenger seat. She heard Stacie sniffle and looked over "Stace?" Beca asked softly.
Stacie stayed silent afraid to even look in Beca's direction. The two stayed in silence for a few before Beca placed a hand on Stacie's arm softly.
"I got something for you." Beca said softly as she placed something on Stacie's lap.
Stacie looked down and realized it was her notebook. She grabbed it and clutched it against her chest. She took a deep breath and looked over at Beca.
Beca cracked a small smile and wiped some tears off her face "I didn't open it, I promise you. We both know I'd never go through it no matter what." Beca said softly.
Stacie nodded. It didn't matter at this point, Beca was going to find out soon enough.
"I heard everything you know." Beca chuckled.
Stacie's eyes got as wide as they could and for the second time, she felt her heart drop.
Seeing this reaction Beca quickly spoke "You don't have to be worried or afraid. What you wrote in there, it was touching. Stace you can't help how you feel alright. I'm glad I can make you as happy as I do because trust me you make me just as happy dude." Beca smiled.
"You really mean that?" Stacie croaked out.
Beca nodded "Yes I do."
Stacie smiled "This notebook, um my counselor said it's helpful to write about all the shit in my head. Sometimes my thoughts become too much for me so I can stop writing. That's why I always have it on me."
Beca raised an eyebrow "So I'm shit now?"
Stacie chuckled "Never that Becs. What I meant to say was that sometimes you're all my mind thinks about." Stacie said before she realized what came out of her mouth "Oh god that makes me sound like a creep and your my obsession."
Beca laughed "I'm just glad someone sees me the way you do. I'm glad someone sees me as more the just the star soccer player."
"You're much more than that." Stacie said.
"Thanks, and don't worry about bozo and blondie." Beca said.
Stacie shrugged "They'll still find a way to make my life hell."
Beca held her hand "Not after today. That's a promise." Beca winked.
"What'd you do?" Stacie asked.
"You wouldn't like the answer." Beca replied.
The two fell silent again until Stacie held out her notebook "Here, this everything I've written about you."
Beca placed a hand atop of Stacie's and pushed the notebook back "I told you I'd never go through it. I don't need to." Beca said.
Stacie looked at Beca before Beca continued "How about this, instead of writing just tell me. I'd love to hear from your mouth and not someone else's. I'd love to be able to tell how I feel in return."
"How do you feel?" Stacie asked.
Beca smiled and brought Stacie in for a kiss.
"I feel like you're all I can think of at times as well. So, do we have a deal?" Beca smirked.
"Deal." Stacie smiled.
