A week after his deadline, Jumin got a call from his father. Jumin already accepted the fact that he failed and did not expect any calls but he guessed it was just appropriate to finalized it verbally.
He took his phone from a bluky guy and made his way back to his room, steeling himself.
"Hello, Jumin" his father said.
Jumin paused for a moment. What should he call him now?
"Hello, Mr. Han" Jumin answered silently clearing his throat. He doesn't think he'll get used to it anytime soon.
He heard a clicked of tongue on the other end.
"I believe you know what I have to do, right?" the chairman asked briefly.
Jumin hummed in acknowledgement. Of course he knew.
"Of course. You didn't have to waste your time to call me. Our arrangement was made and I failed to deliver my end of bargain."
Jumin heard a long sigh.
"When will you finish your deal?" the chairman inquired.
"I supposed it will be in the next three months" he mused. He had done some calculations and that would be the estimated time with contingency. It wasn't that he have any other choice in the matter.
Jumin wasn't gonna ask why his father was asking him. Maybe it was to know how long the man should take to remove everything in his name. He didn't think it was an issue.
Jumin wondered if that entailed him changing his surname.
"Are you being forcefully detained there?" the voice asked again. Jumin furrowed his eyebrows.
"No, I wasn't. I could come and go as I please. It's just a matter of whether or not it was productive in this deal." Jumin really wasn't at all. Not that he tried.
He doesn't have to go out. He knew that he wasn't going to gain anything out of it.
"Are you saying the truth, Jumin?" the voice was calm.
Jumin paused again. The last time he got asked like this was when he was a toddler. He walked to his desk. He doesn't know an instance where he did something that would make the man doubt his integrity.
"I am. I don't know what made you think I was being dishonest but it doesn't matter now does it?" he was confused.
Is his father accusing him of something?
The old man gave a long exasperated sigh. Jumin frowned.
"I'll be waiting for you, son" And he hanged up.
Jumin was taken aback. He took a look in his phone with a puzzled expression.
After a few moment, Jumin smiled softly, relieving an old memory.
Of course, his father wouldn't abandon him because of work.
"Finally!" Saeyoung yelled, alerting his brother in his room.
Saeyoung raised his fists in the air with joy.
The chairman finally called Jumin and Jumin answered. Their conversation was brief but enough to track down their long lost friend.
He was indeed in America, somewhere in West Virginia.
Saeyoung got into checking all about the businesses existing here. Issuing Saeran do his own investigation in the area.
Jumin did gave them a huge heartbreak for not communicating but Saeyoung was glad that the chairman doesn't seem to be an asshole and asked his son if he was a captive.
The way Jumin talked was unchanged too. Something he could expect of their leader. He doesn't seem phase by the fact that his own father might disown him. They were close, too. It was somewhat unnerving.
Saeyoung sent the recorded convo to the chat.
Everyone must know that Jumin was somehow still safe and they shouldn't worry too much.
Jumin did say that he was going back in three months after all.
V was delighted.
He was finally given his phone today. He can't believe he would miss using the device that much.
He still wasn't ready to face Rika but he realized now that his love for her wasn't exactly healthy.
He truly believed that he does love her still and wanted, no, needed to work on himself before going back to her and helping her.
V was grateful to open his eyes and realized that the things he did and didn't do weren't all right.
It was tough to realized but it was tougher to admit to himself that he wasn't thinking straight.
And he was inadvertently putting all his worries with the girl. He wished he can be forgiven.
He should be thanking his friend for doing this. Jumin really know exactly what others need even if his methods of doing so is problematic.
Of course, the feeling that your friend can just throw him in this kind of place still haunts him to the core but he knew Jumin meant well.
He was doing well after all.
V got his phone back and immediately logged into their app.
