Chapter 28: The Red Eyes.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.
Kagome spent all day Friday locked in her room with her kids watching cartoons. Ignoring all the insistent banging and pleas to open her door. She only came out to get her kids something to eat, being to upset to eat herself and since there was a bathroom connected to her room-she didn't have to worry about leaving to go to the bathroom.
Saturday came and went in the same manner as Friday, leaving only to get her kids food-ignoring everyone except for Iziyoi and Taisho. But even with them she gave vague answers consisting of only a few words. Inuyasha and the others were concerned and if not a little ticked off that she didn't believe them.
Sunday morning came and Inuyasha had enough, he went to her room not bothering to knock because he knew it would be a lost cost and a waste of time. So he made quick work at picking the lock while Sango and Miroku watched standing behind him. He was determined to make Kagome listen to them. When he finally got the door open the strong sent of tears and despair hit him in the gut making his breath leave him in a whoosh. He had to shoot a hand to the wall to keep from falling-walking only when he felt his legs would remain solid under him. He stopped right in front of her bed looking down at her and the kids while they still slept. Even in her sleep she looked broken and he felt his heart shatter seeing the dried tears on her face, meaning she must have cried herself to sleep if they weren't wiped away.
Inuyasha brushed her hair off his face, his lips twitched at the slight up-turn of her lips, her face even softened a bit. He leaned forward, whispered her name in her ear and gave her a gentle shake.
Kagome slowly opened her eyes and found Inuyasha and the others standing in her room. "How did you get in here? I had the door locked."
Inuyasha shrugged as he answered. "I picked the lock. You're coming to the park with us."
"And why, pray tell, would I do that?" Kagome rolled over still irritated.
"Please Kagome?" Sango begged.
"Sorry, I'm going to have to pass today, maybe next time-though." Kagome sighed.
"Kagome, you're coming with us!" Inuyasha growled.
"I said no!" Kagome growled right back at him.
The only warning Kagome had was a growl and a quick 'damn it Kagome' before Kagome was being lifted from her bed. Kagome shrieked and demanded Inuyasha to put her down this instant! Which he promptly ignored only putting down when they were far enough that they wouldn't bother the sleeping kids. Once he put her back on her feet he pushed her up against the wall. "Damn it Kagome! You are going to listen to us! Come to the park with us so we can talk."
Kagome rolled her eyes and looked away. "Come to the park with you? No thanks."
Inuyasha gently grabbed her chin and she gasped as she saw the absolute hurt in, not only Inuyasha's eyes but also Sango's and Miroku's. Kagome sighed and tried one last time to get out of having to go. "What about the kids? They are still asleep."
"Mom said she would watch them." Inuyasha said making Kagome sigh and nod her head that she would go with them.
About twenty minutes later, after Kagome showered and got dressed, the group got to the park and started walking the trail that would take them to the picnic tables. As they walked Kagome started to hear a ringing sound in the her ear, as the ringing grew in volume voices accompanied them. Not just any voices, no these voices she knew very well-they belonged to the three people walking with her. The voice sounded like they were out of body having an echo to them, getting louder only growing quiet a few minutes after then growing loud again. She took discreet looks at them, noticing that they weren't even talking at the moment. Feeling confused, if not a little freaked out, she stopped putting her hands to her ears and squeezing her eyes shut. The continued to grow in volume until it sounded like screams of insults being thrown at her.
'Whore.' 'Slut.' 'Skank.' 'The only reason you're even in this group is because we felt sorry for you. We don't even like you.' Then the voices started laughing and the echo to the laughter made it sound continuous and horrifying. Kagome lost her will power to stand and fell to her knees.
"Kagome, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Inuyasha asked falling to his knees in front her her.
Kagome heard Inuyasha but his voice sound muffled. Tears leaked past her eyes as she started to beg. "Please make them stop! Please stop screaming at me!"
"Make what stop? No one is screaming." Sango gently said as Inuyasha gently encased her face between his hands. Kagome jumped and he felt his heart crack, she hadn't jumped when he touched her for awhile and he thought they were passed that. Something must have happened to make her take two steps backwards in her recovery.
All of a sudden the voices stopped and a gust of wind left Kagome's lungs. She tried to stand up but when it appeared she was having trouble with it Inuyasha grabbed her around the waist and supported most of her weight for her. When she felt someone staring at her, something sinister as a cold chill crawled down her spine. She took a quick look around before coming in contact with the same blood red eyes that were staring at her through the window at school. Before she could point them to the group, however, they were gone.
Pushing out of Inuyasha's arm, she spun around to face everyone, her eyes wide with panic. "Did you see them?"
"See what?" Miroku inquired.
"The floating red eyes! They were right there!" Kagome sobbed pointing to where the red eyes were.
The group, minus Kagome, started to look around. "I'm sorry Kagome, but we didn't see any eyes." Sango said gently.
Kagome sighed and continued on her way to the picnic tables and sitting down. Suddenly feeling like someone was burning holes in her back, she stiffened and looked behind her. "Look there!" She yelled making everyone jump and Miroku, who was still in the process of swinging his leg over the park bench, to lose balance and fall with a huff on his back. "Do you see them?"
When the group looked the eyes vanished. "See what? The eyes?" Inuyasha asked looing harder for whatever was stalking his Kagome.
Kagome nodded but looked at the ground when she noticed the eyes were gone. Then out of nowhere the voices started up their screaming in her ear again. She covered her ears praying for the voices to stop and leave her alone.
'She's gone crazy!' 'Seeing things like floating red eyes? She's done lost it.' 'We should throw her in the looney bin.' 'Yes, defiantly. If the floating red eyes doesn't put her in a padded room with a straight jacket, hearing voices in her head will most defiantly do the trick.'
"Stop! Please stop!" Kagome begged through her tears.
"Kagome! What's wrong? What's happening?" Sango asked as tears started to pour down her face.
"Can't you hear them!? The voices!? Make them stop! They are your voices so please make them stop!"
The group looked at each other concern writ all over their faces. "But Kagome, we're not screaming at you. We don't hear anything."
Please Review! Until next time, Bye!
