Chapter 29: The Voices.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.
Kagome looked at Miroku like he had grown a second head. How could they not hear the screaming? She didn't understand.
The voices went between throwing insults at Kagome one minute to laughing at her the next. She felt on the verge of ripping her hair out when, at last, the voices went away. Kagome released her breath and slumped over, sobbing uncontrollably.
"The voices are right." Kagome laughed humorlessly. "I'm going fucking bonkers."
Inuyasha hooked a finger under her chin to bring her face to look at him. "No, Kagome you're not going crazy."
Kagome jerked her chin away from his finger. "Then why am I the only one seeing the red eyes and hearing the voices!? It's obvious that I'm losing it!"
"Hey," Inuyasha whispered hooking his her chin with his finger again. "We might not see or hear anything, or know anything about those videos. We might not know what's going on, but, I do know one thing-whatever is happening we will figure it out." He moved his hand to cup her cheek swiping his thumb to wipe her tears away.
Kagome gasped and grabbed his hand with both of hers. Something strange was going on, of that she was sure. Someone was tampering with reality, but who would do that-who could do that? And could she really believe that it wasn't them in the videos? It sure looked like them, but, maybe it really wasn't them. But, if it wasn't them than who was it, who was messing with her? They seemed shocked, surprised and confused all in one when she had showed them the videos. Kagome was so confused it was making her head spin. What surprised her was that they seemed to believe her and wanted to help.
Kagome sighed deciding to give them the benefit of doubt. She didn't know what was going on and it seemed neither did the people sitting around her. She looked up giving them a timid smile. "So you believe me? You don't think I'm going crazy?" She asked with barely concealed hope in her voice.
Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's hand and laced their fingers together. "Of course we believe you." He whispered raising his free hand to brush her bangs out of her eyes.
Kagome gasped at the absolute truth in his voice. She looked towards Miroku and Sango and saw the raw sincerity in their eyes as they nodded their agreement.
Kagome smiled but it quickly faded. She felt terrible for how she treated them and not letting them explain their selves. Looking down at the table with more tears welling in her eyes. She felt like the worst person on Earth right at that moment. "I'm so sorry for believing in those videos." She whispered.
Inuyasha cupped her cheek with his hand to move her face to look at him. "You have nothing to apologize for."
"But, I was mean to you guys. I was wrong to not give you a chance to explain your selves." Kagome argued her point.
"Kagome," Sango said reaching across the table to lay her hand on top of Kagome's. "We saw the videos, any one of us would have thought they were real. If I got them I know I would have been upset about them, too."
Kagome opened her mouth to speak, but the voices chose that time to start up again-stopping what she was about to say in it's tracks. At first it was just laughter then the talking started.
'She really is dense.' 'I can't believe she actually bought that it wasn't us in the videos.' 'It was easy enough to convince her.' 'She's totally hopeless.' 'We have her right where we want her.' 'She's practically eating out of our hands.'
Then the laughter started back up again. Kagome's hands went back to her ears. "Please! Please stop! Shut up! Get out of my head! Please!" She sobbed-she really couldn't handle much more of this with the voices the eyes-it was just to much! The only answer she got was more laughter from the voices. Kagome was sobbing, shaking and hyperventilating so much she barely felt as Inuyasha start to pull her into a comforting hug.
Inuyasha didn't know what was going on or how he was going to help her, but damn it-he had to do something. It broke his heart that she was going through something and he didn't know how to help her. He started up a gentle rumble in hopes that it would help calm her down.
Kagome clung to him holding him in a death grip as she tried to get ahold on her reality. She listened as he whispered reassurances. She heard the voices telling her that he was lying, but she didn't believe the voices. She tried her best to ignore the voices listening only to Inuyasha's soothing voice as he rubbed her back.
Eventually they voice got softer and softer before going away all together. Once Kagome didn't hear the voices anymore all her muscles relaxed and all her weight went on Inuyasha for she had no strength to hold herself up anymore.

"Is everything going according to plan?" A male voice asked.
"Yes, Mr. Higurashi. I've instilled the voices in her head and have been making her see my eyes everywhere. She's rapidly losing her grip on her sanity." Naraku said as he walked down the stairs. "And it was easy enough to get Kikyo out of jail." He added as Kikyo walked behind him.
Mr. Higurashi grinned evilly. "Good, good. Oh, and Naraku. You start school tomorrow-I've made sure you had all the same classes as Kagome. I want you to break her mentally." Mr. Higurashi demanded.
Naraku nodded his understanding as his features twisted into an evil grin. This was going to be fun.
"It's almost time to put the next step of our plan into motion. Now go out there and do some more torment." Mr. Higurashi comanded.
Naraku didn't answer-he just turned and left.

Now back at home, Kagome was in the bathroom leaning over the sink washing her face. As she grabbed the towel to dry her face she stood straight drying her face. When she uncovered her eyes she gasped as she saw a boy about her age with red eyes and long greasy black hair standing behind her with an evil smirk on his face. She cried out in alarm as she turned around only to find he wasn't there, she turned back to the mirror to see the boy was no longer there.
"Kagome!? Are you okay!?" Inuyasha asked knocking on the door. He heard her cry out and instantly got concerned.
Kagome ran out and threw herself in his arms, he wrapped his arms around her bringing her close to him. He smelt her tears and looked down at her face he noticed that she was paler than a ghost. She told him about what she saw making him stiffen up, curse under his breath and whip his phone out to call their friends.
Once their friends showed up Inuyasha filled them in on what happened. Sango and Miroku had the same reaction that Inuyasha had as they looked at each other with the same scared faces. They came up with the same conclusion; Naraku.
Please review! Until next time, bye!
