Chapter 30: The New Student.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.
Monday morning Kagome woke up exhausted, she had nightmares of red eyes and the boy belonging to them. She got only maybe one or two hours of sleep, but rolled out of bed to get ready for the day. She had learned last night that Naraku was Kikyo's cousin and that he was seriously fucked up in the head.
Pulling up in the school's parking lot Kagome saw Miroku and Sango waiting for them like usual. Getting out of the car walking over to meet up with them both Miroku and Sango saw the exhaustion in Kagome's face and got concerned.
"Hey, Kagome, how are you doing?" Sango asked.
"I'm okay, I'm just tired. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night." Kagome reassured.
"Are you sure you're okay to go to school? You should go home and rest." Miroku suggested.
"No, I'll be okay." Kagome insisted.
Inuyasha saw that the others were about to argue some more so he stepped in. "Don't waste you're breath guys, she won't listen to reason. Believe me I tried."
Kagome looked at him and stuck her tongue out which he returned that favor by sticking his tongue out back at her making the others laugh. Just then the bell rang and they walked to their class together.
Sitting in first period taking a pop quiz, the principle walked in-which went ignored by the whole class. The principle spent a minute talking to the teacher about something or other.
The teacher cleared his throat making a couple students look up, the rest just listened without looking up from their quiz. "Everyone I would like to introduce the new student, Naraku Itu.
Kagome looked up and saw the boy that was standing in her mirror the other night. She gulped and shot her hand out to grab ahold of Inuyasha's arm.
Inuyasha, who was paying absolute no attention and had no idea what was happening, looked at Kagome and noticed she had gotten whiter than a ghost. He turned his face to look in the direction that she was looking in and made eye contact with red eyes. "Oh, shit." He whispered and started growling and discreetly moved his desk closer to Kagome's.
"Looks like you have all the same classes as Kagome Higurashi. Kagome, please raise your hand." The principle ordered, Kagome raised a shaky hand. "Stick with her and she'll show you around."
Kagome's elbow landed on the desk and her head landed in her hand. 'Great.'
Inuyasha looked towards Miroku and Sango, seeing they were both looking at Naraku sending him murderous glares and knew he could count on them to help keep Kagome safe.
"Okay there's an empty spot there in the back, go ahead and go take your seat." The teacher said, Naraku nodded and went to sit down.
Kagome tried her hardest to focus on her quiz but was finding it increasingly difficult because she could feel someone staring holes in her back. She knew who it was so she tried her hardest not to look back. She was growing more tense by the minute. She only had four more questions to do-problem was, it was a six question pop quiz.
She read the question five times and still couldn't comprehend what it said. The only thing she seemed to be able to focus on was the eye on her back.
Inuyasha noticed Kagome tensing up, he moved his desk even closer to hers and placed his hand on her thigh. Kagome relaxed considerably and was able to focus better and complete her quiz just as the bell rang. Tipping Inuyasha a thankful smile towards him and he sent her a crooked smile back giving her thigh a squeeze.
While Inuyasha and Kagome were getting their stuff together, however, feeling someone standing in front of her Kagome tensed up. She could hear Inuyasha's threatening growl but it went completely ignored by Naraku.
"Are you ready to go?" Naraku asked.
"Uhh.. Y-yeah. Um, lets go." Kagome said standing up throwing her bag over her shoulder. Before they walked away, though, she grabbed Inuyasha's hand and drug him with them. As they were walking in front of Naraku both Inuyasha and Kagome missed Naraku's livid look on his face.
Walking toward her second period, she had a death grip on Inuyasha's hand as she pointed where everything was. Reaching the door to her second class Kagome's grip on Inuyasha's hand got tighter.
"Since Sango's class is closer to this one than mine, she will be waiting on you after class." Inuyasha informed Kagome.
"Okay." Kagome said smiling feeling a little better having someone around while Naraku was around her. Something about him seriously gave her the creeps.
The day drug by slower than a snail and Kagome's anxiety rising by the minute. Naraku never took his eyes off of her, not even for a minute.
Now standing in the gym with an arrow notched. Kagome was glad she was able to let go of some of her frustration and blow shit up. She was proud of herself as the arrow shone brightly and smiled before letting the arrow go. She watched at the arrow soared through the air, hit the target and made a huge explosion.
"Very good, child. Now I want you to decrease your power. It's very important to be able to know how to change how much power you put into your attack because sometimes you'll only be required to stun and not kill." Kaede instructed.
Kagome nodded and waited while there was a new target put in place. She notched back an arrow and seeped only a small portion of power in the arrow. With a deep breath she let go of the string sending the arrow flying. It hit the target only catching the target on fire with no explosion.
Kaede gave her a smile. "Good, good. We have about twenty-five minutes left, so why don't we work on making barriers. Push your power around yourself, think about it like covering you with a blanket or like building walls around you. Push that thought out." Kaede explain.
Kagome nodded and focused her power to surround herself with the barrier. She was surprised by how easy it was to put a barrier up. Keeping it up, though, was a completely story. All Kaede had to do was flick her finger and down it came.
Kagome huffed as it fell, but quickly put another up without being told. With another flick of a finger it came crashing down. Another shot up immediately, and Kagome was happy when Kaede flicked it and her barrier stayed standing. Kagome grunted, though, as Kaede surprised her by punching and knocking the barrier down.
"Ye did well today. We will continue with the barriers tomorrow. Practice while you're at home, as well." Kaede ordered.
Kagome nodded, bowed and ran to the locker rooms. Ready to get home and maybe take a nap-she was so tired!
Please review! Until next time, bye!
