Two hours pass before Jamie wakes up. Drift prepared a little applesauce to feed her, uncertain about her arm muscles being weak. He hates the sadness in her eyes. He puts the bowl on the table and hugs Jamie.
"It's ok; I love you; I don't mind. I'm taking care of you. You know this is temporary," he kisses her forehead, "you want some applesauce?"
He follows her eyes which look in the direction of the table on which Drift put the bowl of applesauce. Drift moves the table in front of him, letting Jamie take the spoon. From what Drift sees, Jamie's arms are not affected from the coma.
She finishes the bowl of applesauce and hugs Drift. Drift hates how she buries her face in his chest as the door opened. Crosshairs walks in, knowing this isn't fear but embarrassment.
"Hey, hey, it's ok," Crosshairs assures her, "You know this is temporary. That we all love and care about you."
This shows the two mechs they need to take it slow, letting the others see Jamie, one at a time, and possibly limiting how long they can stay. It'll be some time before she's ready to leave the room in the wheelchair Bulma brought in the room. Crosshairs takes Jamie from Drift's lap and hugs her. Jamie returns the hug but also cries. Both mechs dread there's going to be more crying until she's fully recovered. Being careful of the oxygen tuning, Crosshairs walks around the room to calm Jamie down. It's another scenario where it looks more like Jamie is a young child, which for some reason, Crosshairs and Drift adopted more than Crosshairs being her best friend and Drift being the mech Jamie loves. The two mechs don't care if humans who don't know them think this way. What's important to them is their friends know what's going on, and this is temporary.
"Crosshairs, she-," Drift tries to warn, but he's too late; Jamie throwz up on him, which upsets her more.
Drift takes Jamie as Crosshairs goes to change. Jamie cooperates as Drift changes her clothes, seeing how much weight she's lost.
She's light, to begin with. He frets.
He sits on the chair and takes her hands, "it's ok, you'll get better."
I know she was in a coma, but I wonder if it's possible frustration could build-up, and it's resulting in uncontrollable crying?
Like Jayce and J.R., laying down helps calm Jamie down.
"I want to see her," J.R. tells Crosshairs as he takes her to the kitchen. He doesn't want to tell her Jamie hates even Drift sees her in her current condition, but what else can he tell J.R.?
"We need to be careful with how many people see her."
J.R. sighs and drops the subject. She doesn't know Jamie threw up on Crosshairs. J.R. didn't know Vegeta would bring Jayce to the kitchen, even though she still has the feeding tube in. J.R. doesn't ask if Vegeta is making Jayce rat food; just by watching Jayce, she can tell Jayce wanted to eat.
The four of them didn't think Drift would bring Jamie, though she's asleep in the wheelchair, covered with a blanket.
"You sure about this?" Jayce asks.
"I don't know," he sighs, "I don't want her staying in the room until she's fully recovered, but she hates being seen like this."
"We need to be careful with how many people are around here," Vegeta advises, "I'm not sure if the five of us will be too much."
"She might sleep the entire time. We shouldn't go back to the room with her, J.R."
J.R. agrees with Jayce though the two girls want to support Jamie.
Drift stays for another twenty minutes before going back to the room.
"You know this isn't your fault?" Vegeta asks Jayce, "this is normal."
"Y-yeah, I worry Drift is now going to struggle."
Oh, you don't know he's been struggling the past few days. Crosshairs thought. But you're right; I worry he's going to get worse.
"You have to let us help, Crosshairs," J.R. insists.
"No, bad idea," Vegeta tells her, "she's not going to like you're seeing her in her condition."
Drift reads Bulma's notes as Jamie sleeps, hoping to get Jamie to let him be her therapist, aware she might not like the idea.
It's a way I can show you I love you. Drift believes. I don't care even if this will last a few months, even if I had to bottle feed you; I'll take care of you.
Crosshairs lets Jayce and J.R. see Jamie; taking the chance, she doesn't wake up while they're in the room.
J.R. feels anger seeing all the supplies on the counter.
Damn you, Jadin, I will kill you one day.
Vegeta comes by to get the girls to train with him. They want to wait until Jamie can join them but goes with Vegeta anyway.
"They're doing better than I thought," Crosshairs comments.
"I wasn't sure if they needed to see Jamie woke up to think better, but I guess so. I still worry they'll think this is permanent if this stage lasts a while."
"I don't think they're fully recovered mentally, but this is good," Crosshairs looks at his sleeping friend, "it's Jamie I worry about. You heard Vegeta; this isn't how her mental state usually is when she wakes up."
"Yeah, but you know how our relationship is with her compared to the others."
Hearing Jamie cry in her sleep crushes them. They know what she's dreaming about.
Drift sits on the chair and moves her onto his lap.
"Shh, it's just a nightmare; we're still here."
Crosshairs crouches down and takes her hand, "it's ok, we'll take care of you," he assures her. Jamie's crying becomes louder; the two mechs hate she doesn't realize they're talking to her. Drift hugs her close and rubs her back. There's nothing else they can do but listen to her cry until she wakes up. They didn't know Bulma and Vegeta walked in.
"You're right; this is a lot worse," Bulma whispers.
"There are only two options here; let her cry or use drugs," Vegeta sighs, "come on, let them take care of her."
The two leave the room, worried about all three girls' lasting mental wounds from this nightmare.
