Chapter 39: Recovery is a bitch!

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.

A/N: I don't have anything to do so I'm updating for the second time today :) This story is almost to a close, about five more chapters left. Maybe one more maybe one less, but it's almost over.

"How are you feeling?" The doctor asked.

"Like I've been hit by an eighteen wheeler." Kagome answered.

"Normal. You've been through a very traumatic thing and to top it off with, you almost drained your energy. You, Miss Higurashi, are a very lucky young lady indeed, to have survived all of that."

"Yeah, lucky." Kagome mumbled and looked away as a nurse patched up her arm where the I.V. was ripped out. "Sorry if I don't believe you, I don't feel very lucky at all. If I was lucky I wouldn't even have had to go through all that. If I was lucky I wouldn't remember anything that happened."

"I'm sorry. I meant no offense." The doctor apologized.

"No, it's ok. I know what you meant, it's just-I don't know-just wish I could forget everything." Kagome whispered and held on tight when Inuyasha took hold of her hand.

The doctor nodded his understanding while looking at her charts. "Well, your blood pressure is still a little high, your sugar is low and your heart rate is still to high for my liking. So I'm afraid you'll be staying here for a few more days. Plus I want you to talk to a therapist before you leave here and you need to make your statement with the police as well, the sooner the better. Then when you're discharged from here you'll be moved to the rehab center to do your physical therapy, which might take a couple weeks to a couple months-depending on how well you progress." The doctor wrote some notes down into her chart before looking back at Kagome. "Do you need anything?"

"I'm really hungry."

The doctor nodded. "You'll be on a liquid diet for the remainder of your stay here. While you're in rehab they will work on slowly transitioning you back to solid food."

Kagome sighed but nodded. "How are the kids doing? Where are they?" She asked once the doctor left.

"When you were taken we took them to stay with my mom, they are still there and are doing great." Sango spoke up for the first time. She walked over to the side of the bed with tears streaming down her face, she threw her arms around Kagome and gently squeezed her. "Oh, Kagome! I was so worried about you!"

Rin ran over and hugged Kagome, "don't ever scare us like that again!"

Kagome chuckled. "I'll try my best."

"Oh." Rin said letting go of Kagome. "I've been to school and got all of your make-up work and test retakes that you missed."

"Oh, great. How bad is it?" Kagome asked with a wince.

Rin dumped her bag out and produce a mountain of work that Kagome had to do in order to pass the eleventh grade. Kagome groaned, thinking that it was going to take forever to complete all the work.

"I'll help you Kagome, I'm in the same boat you are. I refused to leave your side while you were here and the principle understood and excused me from school as long as you were out. Though I was able to keep up while you've been out, but, I'll help you if you need me to." Inuyasha offered. Kagome nodded, grateful to have some help.

About four days later, after talking to the therapist and police officers, Kagome was transferred to the rehab center to continue her recovery. She definitely did feel better though she was still incredibly sore and still couldn't move her arms as well as she would like too. Having them chained up without above her head without proper blood flow for two days caused pain with every movement she did.

After getting settled in room, Kagome got started on her make-up work. Above all else she still wanted to graduate high school and was going to work her but off to achieve her goal.

As Kagome working on her second assignment Inuyasha and his parents walked into the room, like Inuyasha-Iziyoi and Taisho refused to leave her side as long as she was recovering. Coming to sit beside her on the bed, Inuyasha looked over her shoulder to see what she was working on. Math-she hated math so it wasn't much of a surprise her wanting to get that done and out of the way.

Kagome just go finished with her second assignment as the physical therapist walked in. "Are you ready to go to the gym to work on getting your arms in working order again?"

Setting aside her work, Kagome carefully climbed off the bed-her ribs where hurting something fierce today. "Sure am!" She was enthusiastic to get her recovery started and hopefully finished as soon as possible.

Her enthusiasm, however, ran out the door the first ten minutes of stretching her arms out and she still had fifty minutes of trying to work her sore arm muscles out! She didn't know if her arms were going to be able to survive till the end of this, she was for sure they were going to fall off!

By the end of the week, though, she was still a little in pain but was finally starting to feel better. She was told that she would be able to go home by the end of next week and only have to go to physical therapy once a week for another month or so.

By the time Kagome was able to go home, she had over half of her make-up work done and was doing remarkable well with her recovery. Well, her physical recovery that is, the mental recovery was still to be discussed when she went to see her therapist again. She was having nightmares every night, waking up screaming anywhere between two to four times a night. And the flashbacks felt like they were really happening, then the panic attacks came making her feel suffocated and like she was going to have a heart attack. Inuyasha and his parents were there through it all to help her calm down and to make sure she was alright. The others had to go to school, but was there to help after school and on the weekends.

Walking in the house for the first time in over a month, Kagome felt tears run unchecked down her face, she didn't think that she would ever see this house again.

Sango slipped out to go pick up Kagome's kids, she knew that Kagome missed them so much and wanted to surprise both her and the kids. So about ten minutes later Sango through open the door so Hiro and Aya could run through the living room yelling 'mommy!'

Kagome jerked her head to the sound of her babies, tears springing in her eyes as she knelt down to envelop her kids in bear hug.

She was finally home.
