Things get better the next five days; Jamie is cooperating better with Crosshairs and Drift. Even though everyone has seen her, Jamie still feels embarrassed, and taking her for walks or even outside on the balcony is a challenge. Jayce and J.R. are doing better and are ok with the limited time with Crosshairs and Drift. Jamie is doing better and not needing to sleep as much during the day. Crosshairs has been with Jayce and J.R. more often the past two days as Bee takes his place helping Jamie. As far as Bee can tell, it doesn't matter if it's him, Crosshairs, or Drift; Jamie is embarrassed they're seeing her in this state.
Jayce still feels guilt this is partly her fault; if she did better, this nightmare wouldn't have lasted as long as it did — even though it's still going; Jamie is in the recovery phase — and maybe Jamie wouldn't have flatlined three times.
She goes into the room, seeing Jamie asleep in the swing. Crosshairs and Drift worry about the reason she came into the room.
"I want to help. It's my fault she's this way," she tells them as tears roll down her face.
Both mechs dread she's still thinking this way.
"You know how this works; there are no medications to help her body fight the high level of the chemical, only the effects like the bradycardia. It's not your fault," Bulma reminds Jayce as she stands behind Jayce. She turns Jayce around and hugs her.
"She's not going to like knowing you feel guilt," Drift adds.
Jayce isn't sure if she should ask now Jamie's recovery is going or if she can help.
"Why is she asleep in the swing?" Jayce asks.
"It relaxes her," Crosshairs explains as Drift picks Jamie up and lays her on the bed, "she should be waking up soon. She might be a challenge, but you can stay to talk to her. She can't talk yet."
"It's normal," Bulma adds.
The four of them don't have to wait long for Jamie to wake up. She is not pleased Jayce is in the room, but there's nothing she can do.
The room is quiet, and the others can hear Jamie's stomach.
Jayce picks her up as Drift goes to get food. She sits on the chair by the bed.
"Easy, I want to help," Jayce tells her.
It's Bulma's turn to repeat what Cade, Crosshairs, Drift, and Vegeta have told Jamie.
Jayce adds to what Bulma is saying while hugging Jamie.
"Everyone wants to help you. You can't do physical therapy only in this room."
Please, Jamie, I'm worried we're running out of time before this is permanent.
Jayce is relieved Jamie can eat a good amount of food. Drift is considering removing the feeding tube.
Drift is hoping Jamie will show Jayce the progress she's making, but she's embarrassed.
"She can crawl and get a few words out, but not clear yet," Drift explains, much to Jamie's disliking.
J.R. walks in, and Jamie starts to get stressed. Jayce and J.R. worry this will last past when Jamie can walk and talk again.
Drift takes Jamie, not knowing Jayce would grab J.R. by the arm and make her walk out of the room with her. Drift tells Crosshairs to make sure Jayce is ok.
He catches Jayce running down the hall.
"You deal with her," Cade tells him, "I'll stay with J.R.."
Crosshairs runs down the hall after Jayce.
"That bad, huh?" Cade asks.
"She still blames herself for how Jamie is. It's concerning this is more than embarrassment."
"It's hard to know unless we figure out exactly what's on her mind."
The two of them didn't think Drift would walk out of the room, carrying Jamie.
"Take her," Drift instructs Cade.
Jamie doesn't fight as Cade takes her from Drift, and Drift runs down the hall.
Cade goes back into the room and sits on the chair by the bed. J.R. walks in and finds where Crosshairs and Drift have kept some snacks.
"Want a cookie, Jamie?" She asks, hoping Jamie will talk.
Like Drift said, Jamie can talk, but it's more like mumbling.
"It's ok; you need to keep talking to improve," J.R. explains as she gives Jamie a cookie.
Cade feels Jamie is relaxed, hoping maybe Jamie is accepting the others want to help her.
Meanwhile, Jayce is sitting in the corner in a room crying. Crosshairs and Drift are at a loss at what to do this time, and they hate it.
"Show her everything," Vegeta suggests, whispering as the two watch from the slightly opened door. Bulma closes the door.
"How's that going to help when she's continuing to decline mentally?"
"She'll see this is normal...or nothing will happen."
Bulma goes to get her record of Jamie's condition.
Bumblebee and Hound have joined the others. Jamie did panic at first, but Bumblebee and J.R. got her to relax and play with the ball.
They want to do physical therapy with her, but keeping her relaxed is also important.
It's hard to think what to get Jamie to talk about and avoid upsetting her about how she's not talking clearly.
This is good; we need to take this slow, but not too slow. Bumblebee observes.
There's the fear they're running out of time before this is all permanent. Bumblebee, Cade, and Hound worry Jayce will struggle to get over the thought this is her fault. For now, J.R. is more focused on helping Jamie and doing ok.
Jayce hugs Drift as Bulma shows her Jamie's records like Jayce showed J.R. before, but she was being shown the post waking up portion. Though everyone knows this is different since Jamie is struggling more mentally, but the reason why Vegeta suggested Jayce see these notes is to show her this is normal and Jamie can recover.
"It's been years since the last severe flare-up, but in turn, Jamie's mental state has been on the decline all these years, which is making this time seem more challenging."
The four of them go back into the room, happy to see Jamie letting the others play with her. They can join in, though now the room is a little cramped. Everyone wonders if this is a good step towards Jamie relaxing when they try to spend time with her — hoping she'll work on walking in the hallway rather than limiting herself to only the room. As for Jayce, Bulma, Crosshairs, Drift, and Vegeta, aren't sure if there's anything they can do, but let her be a part of Jamie's recovery. This time is different, and there are still no clear answers beyond Jamie will be able to talk and walk again.
