Drift works with Jamie, trying to get her to walk. She still struggles with the fact the mech she loves is seeing her like this. Crosshairs left the room to be with the other two girls. Bulma watches as Jamie shakily moves her legs. Drift praises Jamie every second, hoping to keep her going. Bulma and Drift know Jamie is ready to use a walker and go in the hallway, but Jamie refuses. The problem is walking around the room will only help so much. For now, Drift is happy she's letting him help her. Once the physical therapy session is complete, he picks her up and walks towards the door.
"No," she says clearly.
Jamie doesn't fight him; instead, she buries her head on his chest. Drift already talked to Bulma. She told him to leave the room though Jamie is not liking it. Jamie closes her eyes as Drift walks down the hall.
"Jamie, you know everyone has seen you already," Drift reminds her, "they want to help you."
Vegeta is in the kitchen, making breakfast. He thought he had ten more minutes before Drift would bring Jamie in. He worries she will not stay for long, seeing how she tries to hide as Drift sits at the table. Even Vegeta isn't sure what to do about this.
Cade walks in, not liking what he's seeing. He looks around the room, thinking maybe they could work on Jamie's physical therapy here. There's more room for her to walk.
He crouches down in front of Drift and takes Jamie's hand; the three mechs are relieved she's not panicking. Cade isn't sure what to say that won't upset her.
"Go get the walker," Drift says.
While Cade was just thinking what Drift is thinking, he's not sure if they should do this without talking to Bulma, yet Vegeta says nothing, and he knows as much as Bulma when it comes to Jamie's recovery.
Cade finds the walker, a simple metal four-wheeled walker with red handles; relieved Jamie doesn't need anything more advanced like a gait trainer.
It's hard enough dealing with her different mental state, glad she's able to follow her typical physical therapy plan — though it's a struggle to get her to start a very day.
"It's a posterior walker," he hears Bulma, "for people who struggle with their balance. It's better than a gait trainer, but there's still a ways to go."
"Perhaps, but she's come this far in twelve days."
"The issue is her refusal to go out in the hallway, to walk a longer distance."
"I think Drift wants to try the distance of the kitchen."
Bulma and Cade walk into the kitchen to Drift and Vegeta talking to Jamie, hoping she'll walk around the kitchen. Cade waits to be told to leave before Drift has Jamie stand on the floor, but no one says anything. Jamie puts her hands in the red parts of the walker as Drift walks back a little, hoping Jamie will ignore the small audience watching her.
Cade wants to help, but it's a challenge while Jamie is embarrassed.
Jamie can ignore the small audience and walk to the other end of the kitchen.
"Good job," Drift smiles, "you want to walk back?"
He knows this means Jamie will see the others are watching her, but happy she says yes.
Cade sees his opportunity to help, trying to be encouraging, aware he might be causing more embarrassment. Jamie kept going though she's not pleased she has an audience.
"Good job," Drift praises as he picks Jamie up. By then, Vegeta has breakfast ready. The others hope this will get Jamie to walk in the hallway.
Crosshairs walks in with Jayce and J.R., informing Drift Bumblebee and Hound want to come in. Drift can convince Jamie to let them come in. Everyone is happy to finally have everyone together and in a good mood.
Jayce and J.R. aren't sure if they should try to have a conversation with Jamie or not. Though what to talk about?
Drift tries to convince Jamie to walk back to the room when they finish breakfast.
"Let's go, J.R.," Jayce says and gets off the stool.
J.R. ignores her and stands in front of Jamie.
"It's ok, you know how much we love you," J.R. reminds Jamie, "you know you need to increase the distance you walk."
She puts Jamie down by the walker, unprepared for Jamie to try walking without it. J.R. has her hands ready but walks back slowly. Jamie can walk a little before falling, uncertain if Drift will let her try again.
Drift wonders if she's ready for a cane but would rather have her use the walker and go around Capsule Corp before switching to a cane. He doesn't stop J.R. from helping Jamie up and trying again.
After Jamie falls again, J.R. attempts to get Jamie to walk in the hallway with the walker.
At this point, everyone has seen her walking, so Jamie gives up refusing though she's still embarrassed.
"Come on, I think she's going to end up taking a nap," Crosshairs says as he takes J.R.'s hand. They watch Drift and Jamie walk down the hall for a few seconds before going to find Jayce.
"I told you to leave the kitchen!" Jayce scolds.
"She was fine, Jayce," J.R. argues, "she's actually doing really good."
"Jamie tried walking without the walker. She's not there yet; only able to walk a few feet, but then she walked back to the room though everyone was watching," Crosshairs adds.
She knows. Jayce worries. And doesn't want me watching, knowing it'll be at least a few weeks.
"She needs all of us for support," Crosshairs tells her before leaving the room.
Crosshairs walks into the room, seeing Jamie is asleep. Drift is not pleased to hear Jayce thinks Jamie refuses to walk while Jayce is watching her.
"I don't think she'll ever stop feeling guilt," Drift sighs.
"Jamie will be asleep for a while; go talk to Jayce," Crosshairs suggests.
Drift didn't think Jayce would be crying when he walks into the room.
What are we going to do? He worries seeing how upset Jayce is — sitting on the floor, crying — even with all of Jamie's progress. We've tried everything to convince her this isn't her fault. She's traumatized, and it's hard to know what to do. Drift dreads. She hugs him once he sits on the floor. Drift would rather not have Jamie find out how much guilt Jayce feels, but maybe Jamie talking to her will help?
J.R. sits with Crosshairs, using a tablet, as they wait for Jamie to wake up. He let her research ways to help Jamie though they could look at the binder on the table. She doesn't research for long, and Crosshairs knows she didn't find any good answers. She puts the table on the floor and moves to hug him. Crosshairs knows she wanted to research how to help Jayce and knows he'd tell her not to. He wonders if Drift feels the same way, hating there are no answers to help Jayce, and this might be a problem that lasts even after Jamie fully recovers.
