For the next three days, Bulma, Crosshairs, and Drift let the others see Jamie. Jayce refuses to see her, and everyone hates Bulma isn't sure what to do. They know Jamie is looking for her. What they didn't know was Jamie would try to get to her. The walker isn't quiet, but Jamie doesn't want to crawl. Crosshairs and Drift hear her and watch her leave the room. This time, Crosshairs worries while Drift tells him they will follow her.
J.R. didn't think Jamie would be at the door.
"Jayce," Jamie says clearly.
Jayce worries why did Jamie come here? Though it's good for her therapy.
J.R. sees Crosshairs and Drift are close by, as Jayce carries Jamie into the room. They wait at the doorway to see what the two girls will do. They can tell Jamie is afraid to talk.
"She's not able to speak full sentences clearly yet," Drift whispers.
"Oh boy, so we should expect crying," J.R. sighs.
"What are you doing here?" Jayce asks.
Jamie points to Jayce and then the doorway at Crosshairs, Drift, and J.R. and standing there. Jayce figured Jamie wasn't referring to them. She's unsure what to do to figure out what Jamie wants before she cries in frustration. It's not long before Jayce heard Jamie's stomach.
"You didn't eat, did you?" Jayce asks.
"No."
That's what you want. Jayce realizes. Please don't tell me, you know, Jamie? Trying to get out of the room.
Jayce helps Jamie up, and they leave the room with their friends. Jayce sees how well Jamie is doing; wondering when she will use crutches or a cane?
Drift is pleased Jamie is talking to tell him what she wants for breakfast. It is a little hard to understand what she's saying, but Drift figures it out.
It's still a struggle to figure out what to talk about since Jamie still struggles to talk. Jayce and J.R. didn't want to frustrate her.
They want to help, but Jamie's recovery is still at the point not everyone can help.
Crosshairs and Drift are the only ones Jamie will — finally — relax with as they try to talk to her. They tell Jayce and J.R. as Bulma goes back to the room for a physical.
"... she still won't shut up when you get her talking about her pets," Crosshairs jokes.
"Then we can help with her recovery," J.R. says.
"I don't know if she'll get frustrated," Drift points out.
They didn't know part of Bulma's assessment was speech therapy. The four of them wait in the hallway, trying not to think Bulma will say Jamie's speech recovery could be delayed.
Bulma tells them it's going well, though there's no way to know if Jamie will talk clearly in two weeks or two months.
Crosshairs and Drift let Jayce and J.R. join them
"A little playtime helps get her to relax," Drift explains.
It may seem odd for a twenty-five-year-old, but there's also Jamie's mental state to consider.
Jayce hates how it's still a daily battle to get Jamie to relax. She quickly questions if the two mechs play with Jamie because it's fun and gets her to smile.
This continues for twenty minutes before Drift tries to get Jamie to talk about her pets. Jayce and J.R. are happy Jamie continues to talk even though it's hard to understand everything she's saying. They make out that she wants to go home and see her pets.
What do I say? Drift questions, knowing Jamie doesn't let many see her original form. Letting her go home In her cross-dimensional form is risky.
The five of them didn't know Cade walked in and heard what Jamie was saying. Cade takes the chance, exposing he heard Jamie.
"I have an idea," he starts as he sits in front of Jamie and takes her hand, "we'll have a nice beach day when you're fully recovered, and we'll bring the dogs."
Cade didn't think Jamie would say anything to agree with him. He leaves the room, uncertain if Jamie will continue therapy while he's in the room, even if Jayce and J.R. are also in the room.
Jayce and J.R. can get more involved in Jamie's therapy. She still does not like walking in the hallway but will walk in the hallway. Crosshairs and Drift let her walk without the walker. She does ok walking with Jayce, but she still struggles with balance walking by herself.
"I say she's ready for a cane," J.R. smiles before catching Jamie, "but not to walk without aid, sorry."
Jamie does well walking with a cane.
The challenge is trying to figure out what to do to keep Jamie moving. Walking around Capsule Corp will get boring.
"In the city?" Jayce suggests, "to the bakery down the street."
Though that might be too far for Jamie, she won't mind Drift carrying her.
Jamie does well, but it's clear she is getting tired as they got to their location.
"Looks like our little princess is being carried home," Crosshairs jokes.
"No," Jamie sulks.
Crosshairs smiles, knowing she'll gladly give in.
They enjoy a little cake and tea, enjoying being out of Capsule Corp for a while. Jayce and J.R. talk about letting the others join them tomorrow — aware they can't come here every day.
Jamie wonders if she can go home since she's using a cane? And why isn't anyone suggesting bringing the dogs here? A beach day with everyone and the dogs will be fun, but Jamie wants to see the dogs now. She wonders if they'd listen if she keeps asking. At the very least, it's speech therapy.
