Chapter Six: Flying High
Hey, I just wanted to apologize for the rather long delay but I've been quite busy with other fics. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the next chapter! :D
Patches trotted behind his master excitedly wagging his tail while all the Gryffindors and Slytherins walked out in front of the school for their very first flying lesson. "I don't think that we're allowed to have any pets during classes." Hermione said while Harry just simply narrowed his eyebrows and glared at her.
"And I don't think that it's any of your business." He began. "Patches has been in the Gryffindor common room all day and I'm just giving him a chance to stretch his legs."
"Don't worry about her Harry, she's just trying to get you upset." Ron said.
"No I'm not, I'm just telling him the rules because I don't want to see him get in trouble." She told him as Ron just rolled his eyes.
"The day you don't want anybody to get in trouble is the day I take up ballet lessons." He said when suddenly Draco Malfoy came up from behind them.
"You call that thing a dog? He's more like an oversized rat if you ask me." He said.
"Well nobody asked you now did they?" Harry questioned him but before Draco could answer him Patches began to bark.
"Shut up!" Draco hollered before giving him a firm kick and causing him to yelp out in pain.
"Don't you dare kick my dog!" Harry shouted while bending over and then scooping Patches up inside his arms.
"Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it Snape?" Malfoy questioned him with an icy glare in which Harry returned and Patches began to growl at him.
"That's enough!" Madam Hooch cried as she stepped onto the field. "Welcome to your first flying lesson, and I shall kindly ask you to remove your dog during the duration of the class." She told him.
"Okay." Harry responded with a nod.
"I told you so!" Hermione snapped at him in a whisper while Harry sat Patches back down and told him to go find a cat, squirrel, or fairy to chase and he slowly turned around and darted off with his collar jingling every step of the way.
"Alright, now everybody please step up to the right-hand side of your broomstick and stick your hand just above the broomstick and say up." Madam Hooch instructed and Harry did as he was told and was rather amazed when his (although it was the school's in actuality) broomstick shot up into his hand as did exactly the same thing as Draco Malfoy's.
Some of the other students like Ron, Hermione, and Neville were having a lot of difficulty with their broomsticks. Hermione's barely even moved an inch while Neville's was rolling around all over the place but still didn't jump into his hand. That's when suddenly Casey turned her head and looked over at Harry.
"Apparently brooms are like horses and they can sense if you're feeling apprehensive at all." She said and Harry nodded silently in agreement.
"Up!" Ron cried out of frustration having finally lost his patience and that's when his broomstick shot up and the handle of it smacked him in the nose and Harry couldn't help but laugh at his expense. "Oh shut up Harry!" He snapped while rubbing his nose with both of his hands before Madam Hooch continued on.
"Alright, now once you've gotten hold of your broomstick, I want you to mount it. Grip it tightly because I don't want anybody sliding off the end." She explained while Harry swung his leg over his broomstick and mounted it with everybody else. "Now when I blow my whistle, I want all of you to kick off from the ground hard. Then hover for a moment and at the sound of my next whistle slowly touch back down." She told them.
"Alright then on my whistle. Three,.. two,.." she began as she started counting backwards but before she even reached one Neville kicked off from the ground to early and his broomstick started soaring away out of his control before he smacked into a very tall tree and fell to the ground. Madam Hooch and the rest of the class quickly hurried over to him.
"Oh dear, it's a broken wrist." Madam Hooch observed while she slowly started helping Neville up. "Everybody is to stay here while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing." She began. "Understand? If I see a single broom in the air the one riding it will find themselves out of Hogwarts before you can say Qudditch." She warned them before walking away with Neville and that's when suddenly Draco realized that he dropped something and snatched a rather large glass ball up inside his hand.
"Hey, that's Neville's Rememberall." Casey said while pointing over at it.
"I'm sure if Longbottom would have given this a squeeze, then he would have remembered to fall on his fat ass." He said with a chuckle but that's when suddenly Harry grew an irritable and annoyed look on his face.
"Give it here Malfoy." He told him while holding out his hand.
"No." Malfoy began while tossing it up into the air and then catching it again inside the palm of his hand. "I think that I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find. Like perhaps on the roof." He said as he mounted his broomstick and hovered further up in the air. "What's the matter Snape just beyond your reach?" He questioned him with an evil sneer as Harry just simply glared at him while mounting his own broomstick.
"Harry no way! You heard what Madam Hooch said and besides that you don't even know how to fly!" Hermione pointed out but Harry ignored her and shot up into the air like a rocket and hovered in front of Malfoy. "What an idiot." She muttered underneath her breath.
"Give it here Malfoy or I'm going to knock you off your broom!" Harry threatened him.
"Have it your way then." Malfoy responded as he threw Neville's Rememberall as far as he could, and Harry quickly zoomed after it gathering speed while the wind rushed through his hair. As he had managed to catch it Professor McGonagall had also had just happened to be looking out the window along with Professor Snape since he had stepped inside her office for a quick word and their eyes widened and both of their jaws dropped.
