"For anything worth having one must pay the price, and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice - no paper currency, no promises to pay, but the gold of real service."
- John Burroughs
His gaze held sadness as he stared upon the two tombstones that belong to his mother and father, both dying in the line of duty as officers. The sky was darkened and grey and rain poured upon his lone figure as he stood alone in the graveyard.
This man was Hisao Watanabe, a Twenty-three-year old man who stood at 6'0 with his short-spikey jet-black hair, electric blue eyes that went well with his heart-shaped face, and his fair-skinned complex.
It was his mother and father's anniversary, the day they got married and the same day he was born. Hisao had always spent his birthday with his family, even after they died...it was something that he couldn't let go...no matter how many times he's been told to do so.
Their deaths still haunt him to this day, yet it drove him to what he was to this day, a vigilante, a person who took the law into his own hands, Hisao still remembers the very day it all started, the day his father died in his arms while trying to help someone in need.
-Flashback-
The sound of a panicked scream filled the night air as a large crowd gathered around in a circle as the paramedics rushed towards the scene, Hisao stumbled forward before taking off towards the crowd in a sprint pushing his way through till he reached the center.
There, lying in a pool of his own blood was his father Chitestu Watanabe who had been shot multiple times in the chest.
"DAD!!!" Hisao shouted out as he ran forward kneeling right beside his father who looked up towards his son's face with tears prickling the corners of his eyes. Hisao grabbed his father's hand as hot tears streamed down his face, "H-Hisao?" Chitestu slowly asked while Hisao nodded his head up and down making a small regretful looked enter Chitestu eyes.
"H-H-Hisao!" Chitestu cried out as he gripped his son's hand tightly "I-I'm so s-sorry," His father rasped out before feeling the last of his strength leave him, his hand going limp in Hisao's strong but shaking grasp.
Hisao could only stare at his once alive father's body before collapsing onto his bloody chest, his body retching from the urge to throw up, Soon police had entered the scene managing to control the crowd and to give the paramedics their space all the while Hisao sat still on the ground.
A wave of emotions was hit Hisao like a truck, Sadness, Guilt, and...Rage.
Hisao looked up with a dangerous look in his eyes before slowly setting his father's hand onto his still chest and took off running getting concerned yells from the crowd and police before pulling out the red ski mask and took a sharp turn down an alleyway equipping his web-shooters and pulled down his mask.
In one fluid motion, Hisao fired two strands of web fluid from his wrist to the walls and pulled himself up, propelling himself through the air with the greatest of ease into the night sky.
He had a killer to chase and with no time to waste, he was in a hurry...
He quickly followed the sounds of police sirens before landing skillfully on the side of a building and watched as the police chased after a dark yellow car, His father's vehicle which further enraged Hisao as he was already swinging towards the high-speed chase.
Quickly noticing that they were heading towards the direction of a local food distribution warehouse near the ocean, Hisao made his plan and let himself fall at high speeds, wind whipping against his face as he narrowed his eyes in determination.
In a powerful impact, Hisao landed directly onto the roof of his father's car with Hisao barely flinching in pain as he rolled his ankle trying to steady himself, the roof caved instantly causing the Murderer inside to swerve on the road at the sudden move in a panic not knowing what it was, suspecting that it was a Pro Hero.
Not wasting any time Hisao raised his arm before slamming it through the roof of the car grabbing the steering wheel in the process, with a hard turn of the steering wheel, the car turned into the vacant parking lot of the warehouse as it continued barreling towards the large twin doors that led inside the building.
Not wanting to get too hurt before catching the guy Hisao quickly took note of the outside of the rather large building and saw a low enough window that if he had to guess it would most likely be the second floor, soon he was preparing to brace himself.
Letting go of the wheel Hisao got ready and jumped from the car roof with enough force to launch himself into the air before getting into the fetal position as he went through one of many large windows that were on the building and it shattered instantly sending glass shards all over the place and with a rough landing Hisao tumbled on the concrete floor before landing as his feet.
Not wasting a second he was running through the building in an attempt to reach the killer before he escaped, finding the staircase that led downstairs Hisao took off like a bullet and was already at the bottom of the stairs when he saw the wrecked vehicle that was smoking from its impact of crashing into one of the concrete pillars inside the warehouse.
That's when he saw him limping and bleeding badly from the wrecked vehicle, the bastard that took his father away. Angered Hisao charged forward with a violent yell towards the injured man who looked back towards the charging teen and panicked as he raised his gun towards Hisao and fire three shots that Hisao expertly dodge with quick and flexibles moves that cause the man to panic even more.
"L-Leave me alone you freak!!!" the man cried out and was ready to fire once again only to be stopped as a web attached itself to the gun and with a hard yank the gun was ripped out of the killer's hand and his chest was met with a hard kick that sent him flying backward into a large pile of crates, "Don't hurt me please! Just give me a chance, Just give me a chance!" The man cried out from the ground before his right cheek exploded in pain as Hisao landed a vicious right hook on him.
"What about Chitestu Watanabe the man you shot? Did you give him a chance? Did you? Answer me!" Hisao yelled his anger fueling his mind as he grabbed the front of the man's shirt getting ready to land another vicious blow on him causing the man to close his eyes in fear, but Hisao stopped himself frozen as all his rage disappeared in an instant. What the hell was he doing? if he killed this man before him he'll be no better than the man himself, and what would his father say to him?.
"An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind," Hisao said closing his eyes remembering his father's words, the killer shakily opened his eyes at the words being said only for his head to be slammed into the ground knocking him out cold and the sounds of police sirens were pulling up to the outside of the warehouse, soon multiple police officers entered the warehouse and instantly spotted the wrecked care and to the side was the suspect knocked out and covered in webs and a single letter.
The police chief pushed himself through the crowd of police who were trying to get the suspect free from the webs and grabbed the letter from the floor and it read. "Sorry that the suspect is all beat up, he sure wasn't making it easy for me" - From yours truly, Spider-Man.
On the top of a rather large building, Hisao sat on the ledge as he watched the police take the killer into custody, justice has been served. That's how the origin of the vigilante hero Spider-Man came to be, gaining lots of fans behind his sudden rise in crime-stopping and his rise of haters as well.
-Flashback End-
It was a sad but noteworthy part of his backstory, It made Hisao smile sadly as he looked up towards the sky as the sun started to peek through the dark and grey clouds, though barely. Then came the multiple lectures from his worried mother and concerned ex-girlfriend.
Man did it get him thinking of her, his first and only girlfriend...Fuyumi Todoroki, thinking back it brought many old memories of them together and her family, some being good ones and others bad.
-Flashback No Jutsu-Oh Shit Wrong Anime-
It was a cold winter day for Hisao, it's had been exactly two years since his father was killed and it was all over the News about the new vigilante Spider-Man who caught the killer himself and left him to the police. Many speculated on who the identity was of the web-swinging hero and none of them came close to Hisao's identity.
It was a week-long winter break but Hisao had to finish up a four-page long essay for school next Monday so he was heading towards the local library to do so, and as soon as he walked through the doors of the building a wave of hot air hit him in the face placing a small smile on his face as he felt his body begin to warm up before finding a spot at one of the local computers which so happened to be right next to a white-haired girl with flecks with a few noticeable traces of crimson color in her hair which were done in a small ponytail.
Sitting down next to her Hisao got to work instantly and for about thirty minutes Hisao worked silently until he felt a light tap on his right shoulder making him turn towards the same girl from before and now that he got a better view of her face he blushed at her beauty, "Excuse me? aren't you in my history class?" she asked softly which snapped Hisao out of his staring before smiling in realization.
"Oh yeah, your Fuyumi Todoroki right? Names Hisao Watanabe nice to meet you," Hisao said quietly with a smile on his face, in turn, making her blush "N-Nice to meet you Watanabe-san," Fuyumi said while looking away. After that, they both hit it off as they both talked about their school, classes, their essays, and their likes and dislikes. As it turns out they both had a lot in common, soon it was time for the library to close and the sun began to set, Hisao and Fuyumi were the last two leave both joking with each other with wide smiles on their faces.
Fuyumi and Hisao immediately spotted a black limousine with a butler waited outside for someone, sighing Fuyumi turned to Hisao with a sad smile on her face, "Looks like it's my ride home I'll see you at school Hisao!" Fuyumi said with closed eyes and a smile before she turned and walked away only to feel a hand grasp hers stopping her completely in her tracks making her blush.
"Before you go Fuyumi-chan, Will you like to go to the Winter Fair with me tomorrow?" Hisao asked while looking down slightly with a blush on his face, Fuyumi was also a blushing mess. It was silent for about a minute and Hisao's hopes had slowly started to damper when she didn't respond right away. Then she responded though it was quiet he heard a quite yes, Hisao looked up with a wide smile on his face as she looked at him with a small smile and a blush still on her face.
That's how their friendship/crush started and by the end of the week they had officially become a couple and Fuyumi was introduced to Hisao's mother, Yuri Watanabe with them both taking a liking to each other, and month later he was introduced to the Todoroki's.
From the very first moment he sat with the family for dinner, Hisao saw how tense everyone acted around each other especially around Enji Todoroki A.K.A the Pro-Hero Endeavor, It honestly pissed him off how the flame hero treated his family so poorly, so after his first visit he decided to try and help the family, starting with their so-called 'father' and work his way up ending with Shoto Todoroki himself and if Hisao had to be honest...this was going to be one difficult task.
It took a full year for Hisao to finally get through Endeavor's head what he was doing to his family was horrible wrong, it took a lot of talking and a few physical fights, the man broke down in tears in front of Hisao, though he felt sorry for the man he didn't try to comfort him and only watched.
This wasn't the pro hero Endeavor crying right now in front of him, it was Enji Todoroki a human being who knew he messed up. The first thing Hisao told Enji was to treat his family better just not all at once, He was going to have to earn their trust back, and apologizing most definitely wasn't the answer, and slowly the more Hisao visited the Todoroki's he saw that the family had slowly started to become better, the kids would talk to Enji every now and then...yet the coldness still remained which was something he expected, yet it made Fuyumi happier which made it worth it.
Next was Natsuo and Shoto Todoroki, both young men held resentment for the man and it bothered Hisao greatly, no child should hold this much hatred. It was to say a lot more difficult than the man Enji himself, with Natsuo as he would always argue with Hisao and try to put hands-on him to which Hisao only defended himself and never hit back.
That took about a year and a half to finally get through to him...
Shoto was a different story, he was just a kid with a broken and heavy heart and made it a lot easier to talk with the kid who cried his eyes out within his arms after he told Hisao about everything. It made Hisao carry a crying Shoto straight to Enji's room and made the adult bow down and apologize for everything he has done.
But Shoto's response shocked Hisao and Enji himself.
"I-I don't want him to apologize t-to me! I want him to apologize to my Mom! Then I'll forgive him" Shoto said with a glare so fierce it made Enji freeze up slightly, Hisao set Shoto down and watched him slowly walked out of the room before turning back with tears now back in his eyes, "P-Please father..." Shoto said going back to his room closing the door.
"You heard the kid Enji do it for him, beg if you have too and please...just try to talk to him," Hisao said almost crying himself "He's a kid without a father figure and his real father abused him since he was five, so please don't do for yourself..do it for him and your family," Hisao pleaded with the man, Enji looked at him and nodded his head with a newfound determination, Enji quickly excused himself and walked past Hisao straight to Shoto's room and knocked lightly on the door making Hisao smile softly.
For the next couple of months, everything had gotten better with the Todoroki family, and even though it took a while Enji finally fixed his mess and the family was happy and whole for the first time in their lives, with even Rei Todoroki herself being apart of it.
Fuyumi cried tears of joy when they all sat at the dinner table together and ate as a family, though embarrassing to him, the Todorokis all considered him a big part of why the family was together, even Shoto and Natsuo started calling him Big Bro much to his embarassment.
Rei gushed at how cute Hisao and Fuyumi were together making them a blushing mess and the family laughed at them, Hisao and Enji had managed to become good pals and Enji finally stopped his dream of surpassing All Might and started on the road to became a great family man and a stronger hero who kept up his powerful persona but also gave hope to the people.
Sadly he knew it wouldn't last forever and at the age of eighteen his girlfriend of two and a half years broke up with him in a cafe, and boy was she pissed at him...
Fuyumi starting getting heated during the conversation, saying that he's been neglecting her for his job and was always worried sick when he came over injured and it stressed her out.Hisao didn't say anything as he knew it was true and she had every right to be angry with him, between juggling his job and his duties as Spider-Man he was barely spending time with her.
Then she dropped a bomb that changed his life forever...
"You're p-pregnant?" Hisao asked with wide eyes as he felt his heart beating hard against his chest all the while Fuyumi cried tears of sadness and anger, "I've been pregnant for about two months Hisao!" Fuyumi told him and it made Hisao break down crying himself, "And I don't want our child to be around a person who can't even be there for me especially if it's their father!" Fuyumi yelled at Hisao gaining the attention of people within the cafe as she grabbed her stuff and ran out to her car leaving Hisao to himself alone at the table crying.
-Flashback End-
That was the second-worst day of his life, that was four years ago and even now his heart still aches for her and to see his son, the rest of the Todoroki family were saddened at the news but they were all very understanding, even though he doesn't visit, Shoto and Natsuo still call him Big Bro, they even managed to keet him updated on his son who was born with his mother's hair and his sapphire blue eyes, Fuyuki Todoroki was his name a beautiful name at that.
Then Hisao looked at his mother's tombstone and for the first time being there, he felt tears run from the corners of his eyes onto the grassy ground below him as he remembered his mother's final words to him before she, unfortunately, died within his arms succumbing to her wounds.
-Flashback-
It was a bright Sunday morning, a day after Hisao's break up as the sound of gunshots rang out making everyone within the vicinity run away in fear, Hisao was already in his suit and was swinging towards the shooting and landed on the side of the building, getting a perfect view of the situation.
There were Pro Heroes and Police were all caught in a shoot-out with an unknown gang that wore a quite particular mask and snipers had got the police pinned down from entering the building, an old warehouse from what he could see.
Then he spotted his mother who was crouching behind a police cruiser with a pistol at hand, Hisao decided to make his move and web swung down taking out a masked man sniper which alerted the others around him, "Damn it! it's the Spider" one of the masked men said in a language that Hisao didn't understand.
The masked man tried to raise his gun to shoot but was caught by a mean right hook delivered by Hisao that sent him to the ground hard, Hisao soon was swarmed by multiple masked men with some using something akin to dark energy for their weapons that managed to almost hit him.
But even with five-plus guys Hisao expertly took down everyone before moving onto the other snipers which gave the heroes and police the time they needed to fight back.
While Hisao watched the massive fight ensued as static filled his ears making him looked at one of the masked men's radios that seemed to be active, Hisao quickly squatted down and picked up the radio and put it to his ear. At first, Hisao didn't know what the man was saying but quickly realized that it was Chinese and listened to their conversation a bit more carefully but it was already too late and the final words he heard were "Bombs go off".
Then his phone started ringing and quickly realized that it was his phone and answered the call, "Spider-Man where are you?!" Yuri Watanabe's voice came from the other side of the call and she sounded panicked, Hisao was about to answer when the line went dead and the building started shaking violently as it threatened to collapse. Hisao was panicking and immediately put one and one together and realized that they must be inside the warehouse fighting and without waiting jumped from the roof onto the ground floor in front of the entrance.
He was just about to enter through the doors when everything exploded making Hisao see bright orange and flames that surrounded him burning through his suit as darkness consumed him.
It felt like an eternity as Hisao struggled to open his eyes as he awoke covered in rubble from the exploded building, his body felt like he was run through by Rhino himself, and with great effort, Hisao pushed the rubble off him and stood up staggering in pain.
His ears were ring and his mask lens were both broken and along with his suit that was badly torn, Hisao stumbled forwards as the ringing stop and the sounds of pained groans, crying, and shouting filled his ear now, Hisao eyes widen in horror as he managed to find his bearings, he was just fighting some random gang along with some heroes and police officers...His mother!
Moving quickly Hisao moved as many injured pro heroes and police to safety as paramedics and more police appeared on the scene taking action immediately taking as many injured as they could, the police and heroes didn't bother to stop Hisao as they needed as much help as they could.
So many were dead and a lot of them were without limbs or most of their bodies so the area smelled heavily of blood, it quickly made Hisao nauseous, and for a single second, he stopped, almost as if everything froze he saw a certain hand sticking out of the ground moving slightly.
He recognized the ring on the person's finger from anywhere and without wasting a second, Hisao ran towards it and immediately started to move the rubble off his mother before finally pulling her off the ground into his lap and held her within his arms, a large piece of metal was sticking clean through her heart and it made Hisao freeze...his mother...w-was!
"Yuri stay with me!" Hisao pleaded as his mother looked at him with eyes that said everything, she wasn't going to last long even though Hisao refused to believe it but in his heart, he knew it was the truth...the cold hard truth. "M-Mom please?!" Hisao cried as he lifted his mask revealing his bloody and cut face to his dying mother, "H-Hisao?" His mother rasped out before entering a coughing fit with blood flying out of her mouth causing Hisao to panic and was getting ready to cry out for help when a soft hand touched his face making him look at his mother.
She didn't look shocked anymore but happy evident by the smile on her face, "M-My young man i-is Spider-Man?" she said quietly Hisao was full-on crying now, "I'm so sorry I couldn't save you, mom," Hisao said quietly as his mother looked at him with eyes full of pride and sorrow, "Y-You might not have been able to s-save me but...look at all the p-people you saved today!" Yuri said as tears fell from her eyes "P-Please take care of yourself and don't do anything stupid, my baby boy, I'm so proud of you!" Hisao listened to his mother as he watched the life leave her eyes and her hand slowly slipping from his face.
Then she went still and Hisao's heart finally broke as he cried over his mother's bloody body as her words rang through his ears. Footsteps were coming from behind him and with ease Hisao pulled down his mask hiding his identity, it was a paramedic and he knelt next to Hisao and looked at the body in his arms with sadness.
Many paramedics offered to carry the body but Hisao refused and carried her himself to the paramedic vehicle and set her softly on the bed and watched as she was loaded up and was driven away leaving a heartbroken Spider in the middle of the road.
That was the day his mother died within his arms exactly on his birthday
-Flashback End-
News had spread fast that is a new gang rising through the underground of Japan.
They had names themselves The Demons...
When the news spread that Yuri Watanabe was killed, many people who knew Hisao knew that him and his mother were very close after his father/husbands death. But Hisao's heart ached, Knowing that more lives were lost due to the explosion than just his mother and that he failed to save them.
Fifiteen Officers and ten Pro Heroes had lost their lives in the explosion and even more, were injured and taken to hospitals where they were immediately sent to the ICU.
The worst yet was that most of the blame was shifted onto Spider-Man because he was at the scene when it happened...
But he was surprised when Inko Midoriya, one of his mothers long time friends stopped by along with her son Izuku to check up on him the very next day after the incident, sadly Hisao wasn't in the best shape at the time as the inside of the apartment was completely trashed and destroyed, and on the floor was Hisao in bandages and a pair of new clothes as he held a photo of his mother and father tightly.
Instead of leaving both Midoriya's stayed and cleaned up the house before settling down and started to prepare dinner for the three of them as they continued to comfort Hisao, Inko held him as he cried, it was a dark day for Hisao Watanabe.
The beginning of his life was not for the faint of heart. If somebody said it was a happy little tale... If somebody told you he was just your average, ordinary guy, with not a care in the world... somebody lied...he's Hisao Watanabe...and he is Spider-Man and this is his journey.
[A/N: The first chapter is done and I'm ready to see how people react to it, who knows maybe it'll do good or will fail tremendously. I'll just have to find out the hard way. See you maybe in the next chapter.]
