The Worst Ones

Wednesday July 31st, 1991

"Alright Percy, pick which one you want!" The Weasley's mother said in excitement for her 3rd son.

While they were over there the youngest son decided to sneak off. He walked away and over to a snowy white owl in the corner.

It was flapping its wings and throwing a fit. He put a finger in her cage and she went to nip it, but stopped and instead nudged it.

He put three fingers and started stroking her(fuck off dirty minded people!) feathers gently.

He smiled softly and she tried to copy him, but hooted softly instead. "You're a pretty girl, aren't cha?" He whispered with a small chuckle.

He took his hand out and she hooted at him, but Ron just whispered to hold on. He looked around and saw a woman enter the shop. She started toward the cage next to the snowy owl and Ron saw his chance.

As she passed him he carefully and swiftly took a small pouch that was sticking out of her purse.

He turned back around to the owl and checked the bag, 6 gallons. She only cost 3, oh well, he'd keep the rest.

He took a piece of parchment and a muggle pencil out of his orange, oversized hoodie and wrote, 'Took the snowly owl in the back right corner.'

He took the extra three gallons and hid them in his pocket before sticking the note on the pouch and picking the lock with the pencil.

The owl jumped onto his outstretched arm and hooted quietly. Once Ron was at the door frame he threw the pouch on the counter.

He heard the clerk mutter, "she's our worse one.." Before walking out.

"What should i name you?" He mumbled as she jumped onto his shoulder. He hummed in thought as he made his way down the alley. "How 'bout... Yuki(You-Key. Means snow in Japanese)?" He looked up to the owl. She hooted and head-butted him.

"Hmmm." He looked around at the shops on the sides of the alley and one caught his eye. "Kappa's Cats." He thought. He started walking toward the shop, slowly.

He pushed the glass doors open, the smell of lavender and cinnamon buns engulfed him immidetly. As the door closed by itself he heard a twinkling sound.

The spruce door with a gold cat emboldened(sp?) in it was pushed open right away and a man that looked to be no younger than 32 came out. He came to the counter, panting and smiled at Ron.

"What can i help you with?" He breathed, pushing his amber hair back.

As Ron was about to answer, a boy who looked to be his age came out wearing a apron that had the writing Kappa's Diner in blue cursive in the top right corner.

"Dad, someone's asking for the manager." He said looking at Ron. Ron stared back at him. Ice meeting grass.

Ron noticed that him and his dad looked completely different. The boy had grassy green eyes, dirty blonde hair, and was very pale. While the man had brown hair, hazel milk eyes, and lightly tanned skin.

"Can you help him please, Icelynn(Ice-Lin)? I need to get back in there." The man asked with a pleading face.

Icelynn peeled his eyes away from Ron and looked at his dad with a look of sympathy.

"Sure, dad." He answered. His dad nodded at him with a smile and rushed into the other room.

Icelynn pulled his apron over his head and hung it on a rack behind the counter before moving to stand right in front of Ron. Not behind the desk.

He studied Ron for a second before smiling and holding out his hand. "Icelynn Kappa."

Ron hesitantly shook the boy's hand. "Ronald Weasley." He introduced, pulling his hand away when Yuki hooted.

"You're a Weasley?" Icelynn said. Ron knew he wasn't looking for a reply."So, know what ya want?" That one did need an answer.

Ron pointed to the only cage in the room, which was in a dark corner. "How much?" He whispered.

Icelynn stared at him. "You're weird and hard to read..." He noted with a slight frown. "I like you." He smiled and went behind the counter. He grabbed something and threw it at Ron.

He caught it without trouble. Growing up with 6 siblings had its advantages. Ron raised an eyebrow and Icelynn smirked. "3 gallons." He answered.

Ron looked at the thing Icelynn threw at him, a key. Ron went to the cage and the cat hissed instantly, making Yuki move back. As soon as he unlocked the cage the black cat jumped on the shoulder Yuki wasn't on.

"Suprised she didn't bite you." Icelynn cocked an eyebrow and caught the key that Ron threw at him. "She's our worst one." He continued, putting the key back.

Ron walked to the desk and put the three gallons on it. "The clerk at Owl Shauwl said the same about Yuki." He mumbled, gesturing to the snowy owl on his right shoulder.

"Hmm." Icelynn hummed. "They both seem to like you." He threw the coins in the register and handed Ron a lollipop which Ron raised an eyebrow at. "Dad wants all customers to have one." Icelynn provided.

"Hope to see you at Hogwarts, Ron. Ima be a Ravenclaw, whole family is. You?"

"Whole fam's Gryffindor, don't think I'll be though." Ron answered quietly.

Icelynn nodded and Ron left the homey shop.
