Chapter 2 – Meetings

Hinata was a shy person, no surprises there, but it didn't mean that she liked being alone like her cousin did. While she did have a room all for herself last year, this year she decided that it would be a nice experience to share a room.

From all the imaginary meetings with her soon to be roommate, she never imagined that it would be like this. Her roommate, a tall brunette whose name she didn't know yet, but felt like she's seen her before, was staring at her, mouth a little agape, like she was the strangest creature of earth.

The intense stare of the unnamed girl made Hinata feel awkward, prompting her to avert her gaze towards her fidgeting fingers, an action that apparently snapped the other girl back to reality.

"Um, hi!" the girl said somewhat awkwardly, "Name is Tenten, nice to meet you Hinata..." Tenten paused for a bit, considering her next words, "You wouldn't know any Neji Hyuga, would you?" She asked, the difference in behavior was huge, but they had almost the same eyes and the same surname.

At this question, Hinata sighed, 'Of course, a fangirl of cousin' she thought to herself, but smiled gently anyways.

"Neji-nii-san is my cousin" she answered, expecting a full on out questionary about how to get to know Neji better.

"How can be that bastard related to you!" Tenten practically shouted. Hinata blinked. That was odd.

Hinata knew Neji wasn't the nicest person on earth, but he was civil at least, she hoped at least And even being the antisocial that he was, almost all the girls, and even some boys, tried to flirt with him or get close to him. But the expression that that woman was doing made it clear that she would rather be very far from her cousin.

"S-sorry?" Hinata asked, still shocked with the sudden reaction of the brunette.

Tenten breathed in, she let her nerves get the best of her. This girl seemed so nice and gentle, the opposite of what her cousin was, it was only natural for her to get shocked. She also just called her cousin a bastard in front of her, that wasn't very nice from her too.

"Sorry… it's just your cousin was a little of a bastard today, I mean, I too probably shouldn't have called him 'weird eye', but it's that your eyes are so different, and then he started to talk about 'how I never heard of the Hyuga clan', and…." Tenten started to ramble, but Hinata was able to understand more or less what happened.

"Ahh, don't worry. Neji-nii has indeed very poor social skills" Hinata calmly said.

"And then he just glare- huh?" Tenten paused her rambling, "Poor social skills is really a compliment for him" Tenten chuckled awkwardly, causing Hinata to giggle.

"In any case, I apologize for my cousin" Hinata bowed, surprising Tenten even more.

'Really, how can they be related?' "Hey, its ok, not your fault or anything… Maybe was just some bad choices of words, who knows, maybe tomorrow will be better" Tenten offered, scratching the back her head. Hinata smiled, but she knew that it wouldn't be different. After her cousin disliked someone, it was very hard for him to change his opinion.

"In any case, nice to meet you Hinata, I feel like we will get along very well!" Now Tenten was smiling a genuine and kind smile, to which Hinata matched.

After the awkward introduction, both girls chatted about their majors and hobbies. Tenten learned that Hinata was majoring in pedagogy, and still didn't chose a minor. Hinata learned that Tenten was majoring in Mechanical engineer, and probably would minor in economics, where she met Neji.

"Oh, I'm the setter of the woman's volleyball team" Tenten proclaimed proudly.

"Really? So you must know Sakura-san" Sakura was one of Hinata's best friend, who was trying to help the poor girl to approach a certain blonde.

"Sure do, I really wouldn't like to be the receiving end of one of her death spikes" Sakura's strength always frightened Tenten, even if the girl was sweet, the more pissed she was, the harder she would hit the ball.

Tenten wasn't proud to admit it, but one of her strategies in hard games was to purposedly piss off the pink haired woman so she would destroy the defenses of the opponent team with her superhuman spikes.

Hinata chuckled, "That's why I felt like I saw you before, I saw some of your matches, you really are a good setter." Ego inflation for the brunette was always a welcome thing! Tenten flexed her right arm, patting her biceps with the other hand.

The two of them continued chatting until Tenten's stomach growled, begging for food. Laughing awkwardly, she excused herself to eat her dinner, and when she came back, the blue haired girl was already studying. Deciding to do the same, Tenten also revised the classes she had had today, later going to sleep.

The next morning Neji was felt a little sore. Even working out regularly, Jiraya's practice regimen was something else, and he didn't even dare to think about how would have been if Guy were there.

Deciding for a quick shower to take away the morning drowsiness, Neji started his morning. First shower, then breakfast, then head off to class.

Arriving at his class, he was relieved to see that the ignorant girl wasn't there. Seating himself away from the loudness of the class, he started to roam his notes from yesterday. As time passed by, no news about the brunette, not that he was worried or anything, he would rather be relieved if she didn't show up to class.

Kurenai-sensei arrived, and still no ignorant girl, and at this point he was getting impatient. She was rude and ignorant, and also lazy with classes?

Right when the teacher was about to start roll call, the damn woman arrived. 'About time' Neji thought, rolling his eyes. When he looked at her, she was frowning, and he discovered why, the only free seat was next to him.

Tenten made her way to the only available seat and sat without a word leaving her mouth. Kurenai ignored her lateness and started her roll call.

"Aside from ignorant you are also undisciplined about classes" Was Neji's dry remark. He didn't need to look at her to know that she was glaring at him. If looks could kill, he would be dead for sure.

The class only lasted for fifty minutes, but for them it seemed an eternity. When the class was finally over, Tenten flew out of the classroom faster than anyone else. Neji almost chuckled with the childish action. This was unlike him, but if he was stuck with that girl in this class, he might as well piss her off as much as she pisses him off. And even more surprisingly, was that it felt nice to tick her off.

After the morning classes ended, Neji met up with his cousin for lunch.

"Hinata-sama" He greeted, stoic as always.

"Neji-nii, good afternoon" Hinata, always being a gentle soul greeted him, "How was your morning?"

"Not bad, the first days of classes are always easy."

"That's true…" Hinata paused a little, prompting him look at her with curiosity. "You know that this year I'm sharing my room with another girl" She said shyly. They picked their food and sat down.

"Yes, I'm aware of that. Is she treating you well?"

"Yes! She is very nice… You know her too" At this his curiosity peaked. He just nodded, encouraging Hinata to continue, "Her name is Tenten…" At this he chocked on his food.

Kami-sama surely hated him.

After her classes were finally over for the day, Tenten got ready for practice. It would be nice to see everyone together again, plus, she loved volleyball.

Changing into her training outfit, she stepped into the court. Just one soul was there, that being Sakura. She was practicing her serves, and by the looks of it, she was angry.

"H-hey Sakura, how's it going?" Tenten asked. The pink haired woman turned to her, transforming her scowl into a smile.

"Tenten-san! How have you been?" Her mood swings never failed to amaze Tenten.

"I'm good, and you? I see that you are hitting the ball rather hard hehe" she laughed nervously.

"Naruto that idiot, the boy can't take a hint, I swear!" Sakura scowl came back. She and Naruto were friends since kids, and there was a time where the blonde boy tried really hard to conquer the girls heart, but Sakura started to date Sasuke still in high school, so the blonde gave up, or so Tenten heard.

There was a time where Lee would also chase Sakura, but he also gave up after he discovered that she was dating Sasuke. It didn't stop him on crying rivers and going on a crazy workout routine though.

"A… hint?"

"Yeah, but never mind that, tell me about your summer break!" there was again the cheerful mood of the pink haired girl.

Soon enough, the rest of the girls waltzed in.

"I see that my favorite players are still in here" Ino, another blondie, appeared from nowhere and hugged both of them, "and Sakura, it seems that your forehead grows a little more each time I see you", and with that, the two girls begun a brawl.

"I see that our star libero is still here, and still creating chaos around" Tenten managed to get away from the two commented.

"Of course I'm here, who would save your asses when forehead here gets blocked" Ino teased, making Tenten chuckle and Sakura growl. Before Sakura could answer though, their fitness coach arrived.

"Everyone, get your asses over here and let's start" Tsunade wasn't very gentle at first sight, but she had a soft spot somewhere. She also had a superhuman strength in her days of athlete, and Tenten looked up to her, making her dedicate herself into volleyball. But unfortunately, her arm wasn't strong enough, however, her perfect aim allowed her to lift the ball anywhere, combed with her tactical intelligence, she made a really good setter, a position that she learned to love. Plus, if she needed to spike a ball, her aim made up for her lack of raw strength.

Sakura, however, was a mini Tsunade. At first, Tenten envied her, but she learned that if she joined forces with the girl, they would be a force to recon. And if anything goes wrong, Ino was right after them, to cover for them, as a prodigy libero.

The practice went on, mostly working on their physical, as their coach was late, as always. Kakashi Hatake was a top tier coach, but his tendency of being late was something to get used to.

"Hey, hope I'm not to late" Kakashi finally arrived, receiving a scowl from Tsunade, "So, lets start with the technical practice. Lastly we will do a game."

By the time practice was over, it was almost dark outside. Tenten and her gang headed for dinner, happily chatting about practice and their classes.

"Oh, by the way, my new roommate is Hinata" Tenten commented, earning a squeal from Sakura and Ino.

"She is the nicest person on earth!" Sakura exclaimed, but soon scowled, "Naruto that idiot, he is the only one that doesn't notice that".

"Hinata is the best person for you to room with! She surely wont cause you any trouble" Ino injected, "Plus, her cousin is one of the hottest guys of school" she added, to which Tenten made a face.

"I guess every family has a black sheep" she commented. Sakura and Ino gave her a questioning look, which she continued, "I have class with her cousin, and let's say that he isn't very nice".

Sakura and Ino just laughed awkwardly, there was no denying that after all.

"And you guys, who are you rooming with?" Tenten asked, and both girls just pointed to each other.

"Somehow the universe thought it would be a good idea to put us in the same room" Ino commented, "really, dunno how I'll make it" She finished, dramatically.

"I agree, there is no way that I will finish this year without having nightmares of your ugly face, Ino pig" And the brawl restarted. Tenten just laughed at their friends' antics, it was nice to have them around.

The day was finally over for Neji. After the shocking news that the insolent brunette would share room with his angelic cousin, he still had to watch as Naruto was an idiot in front of Hinata, making her almost faint. He still didn't know what Hinata saw in that blond, but boy was that guy dense.

On top of everything, the person making his tea somehow managed to mess up his tea wrong. How the heck someone messes up tea? Its just pour hot water into tea and boom, tea is done. Neji could swear that the other attendant, someone who he vaguely remember that was there yesterday as well, snickered when he almost chocked on his messed up tea.

Now, inside, and safe in his room, Neji tried to meditate. Tomorrow was going to be a long day, heck, everyday was going to be a long day in this quarter, with that damn woman pissing him off with only being in his class. It didn't help that he needed to agree with Shikamaru, she indeed made a good tea yesterday.
