Chapter Sixty: The Unforgiveable Curses
Sarah finished making her way to the girl's lavatory and then walked over to where Brianna was sitting and sat down next to her. "What's wrong?" She questioned her anxiously out of concern, but Brianna continued staring at the floor before letting out a sniff.
"Why do you care?" Brianna questioned her back.
"Cause I'm a caring person and it's what God and my parents would want me to do." She replied.
"Sorry, but I gave up on God a long time ago. After all, He gave up on me." Brianna told her with another sniff.
"What makes you say that?" Sarah wondered while putting a comforting arm around her.
"Because he separated me and Draco and now, I just found out that Mum isn't even our biological mother. Dad had an affair." She explained with a third sniff as Sarah gasped.
"Oh no." She whispered softly. "Does Draco know?" She wondered but Brianna simply just shook her head.
"No, but I don't have the heart to tell him. Especially since he's so happy right now due to the fact he's able to see that mudblood girl again." She told her. "He denies having a crush on her, but I know he really likes her." She added.
"You mean Hermione Granger?" Sarah inquired as Brianna nodded.
"Yeah her. I mean, I know that he spends more time with her than me, but I also don't want to ruin his happiness." She explained.
"Well Brianna that's sweet, but you really shouldn't call her a mudblood." Sarah told her.
"Why not? That's what she is isn't she?" Brianna wondered while turning her head over to look at her.
"No, she's muggleborn. A mudblood is just a hurtful name to describe somebody that is muggleborn." Sarah explained. "Unfortunately, you and your brother have been brainwashed into believing that those words can or rather should be used interchangeably and that shouldn't be the case at all." She told her. "Your brother is starting to learn that and hopefully you will soon as well." She added.
"What's your name again?" Brianna wondered.
"Well, my real name's Sarah but a lot of people call me Sally." She responded with a grin. "It means princess and my mum named me that because I was her princess as soon as I was born." She explained. "And if I recall correctly your name means high and noble." She added.
"Then apparently I was either given the wrong name or sorted into the wrong house because I'm not a Gryffindor." Brianna pointed.
"You don't have to be a Gryffindor to be noble." Sarah began with a shake of her head as she helped her to her feet. "After all, my father was sorted into Slytherin and he's just about the bravest person I know next to my older brother Harry who's actually come face to face with the dark lord before." She told her before she started helping her back to her common room.
….
The next morning at breakfast Harry noticed that several people told him that he needed to get a haircut, but he decided to ignore them since he liked his hair at this length and had been trying to grow it out. Before they knew it the bell rang, and classes begun.
In potions class Sarah started learning about the fire protection potion while Harry learned about a potion that he himself had had experience with when he had been a second year. It was a dreadful tasting potion called Skelegro which was able to mend broken bones and even regrow them. Harry had had experience with it when Gilderoy Lockheart accidentally made his bones disappear once he had fallen off his broomstick during a game of Qudditch.
Harry knew that since Ginny Weasley (next to being a singer) wanted to be healer that she would have to pay extra special attention next year when she learned about the particular potion. In history of magic Harry learned all about the goblin rebellions while Sarah learned about the International Warlock Convention of 1289.
Afterwards during study hall Sarah went to go for Qudditch training while Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco went to care of magical creatures and learned all about unicorns even though Harry had known quite a bit about them already since his family had owned one at one time. Before lunch it was time to go to defense against the dark arts class and once Harry, Ron, and Hermione entered the classroom along with everybody else and saw that Professor Moody was busy writing his name on the chalkboard.
He introduced himself as ex-auror Alastor Moody and that he was only there because Dumbledore asked him to and then he opened it up for any questions but before anybody had the chance to say anything he scolded Seamus Finnigan for having chewing gum on the underside of his desk which really freaked Harry and the rest of the class out since they were amazed about how much his magical eye could see.
"Now today we're going to learn about the three unforgiveable curses and who can tell me why they are named that?" He wondered as Draco looked over at Hermione and it looked as if she was about to pass out and he started feeling a lot of concern for her.
"Cause they are unforgiveable." She replied. "The use of any one of them will send you to Azkaban for life. Unless of course they are used in self-defense." She explained.
"Correct! And the ministry says that you're too young to see what these curses can do but I say different! You need to know what you're up against and you need to be prepared!" Professor Moody told them before getting a spider out of a glass container and turned to face the class. "Alright, who can tell me what the first unforgiveable curse is?" He wondered before Ron raised his hand. "Yes ?" He questioned him.
"There's the Imperius curse that my father told me about." He replied as Moody nodded back at him.
"Oh yeah, your father would know quite a lot about that. Gave the ministry grief a few years ago." He began. "Perhaps this will tell you why." He told him before he pointed his wand at the spider. "Imperio." He said before the spider became completely under his control and he assured the class that he was perfectly harmless as he made him float across the room, fling itself against the glass window, and although it was much to his displeasure tap dance on top of Draco Malfoy's head.
He explained at the end of class they would be learning how to resist the curse and be writing an essay about each of the three unforgiveable curses. Afterwards, he called on Neville Longbottom who shakily raised his hand to give him the next curse which was the Cruciatus curse that he already knew too much about since his own parents had been tortured with it.
While Moody kept his wand pointed at the spider it started shrieking out in pain as he tortured it which Neville found it extremely difficult to watch and Hermione couldn't stand it any longer. "Stop it!" She cried out. "Can't you see that it's bothering him stop it!" She hollered while Moody instantly pulled his wand away and looked up at her before carrying the spider over to her and setting it down on top of her desk as Draco continued looking at her and could see that she was close to tears.
"Well then, I suppose you can give me the last unforgiveable curse Miss Granger." He told her but she just silently shook her head. "No?" he questioned before pointing his wand at the spider one final time. "Avada Kedavra!" He snapped inside a hoarse whisper and Harry watched as the spider collapsed and held his legs up in the air after his body went lifeless. "The killing curse. Only two people have been known to survive it and one of them is sitting in this room." Moody said as he looked at Harry before taking another drink out of his golden flask and walking back over to the chalkboard.
