Fuyu finally woke up shortly after the red-headed boy left. Recovery Girl gave her a quick checkup before sending her home with energy gummies and instructions to get plenty of sleep and to rest for a few days.
As soon as she got home, the blue-haired teen checked her messages and grimaced upon seeing Izuku's worried texts and voicemails.
Sighing, the girl dialed his number and held the old smartphone to her ear.
'Fuyu! Are you okay? I've been so worried. You weren't responding to my texts or calls and I didn't see you after the exam-'
'Shh, Izu, I'm fine. I may or may not have exhausted my quirk and passed out. I woke up in the infirmary, and I just got home.'
'What'd you do to exhaust your quirk?'
'Promise you won't get mad?'
'What could you have done?'
'You know those zero-pointers Present Mic told us to avoid? I kind of completely destroyed one.'
Fuyu heard her best friend sigh. 'Normally, I would yell at you for endangering yourself like that, but then I'd be a hypocrite.'
'Come again?'
'I also may or may not have downed one of the zero-pointers. With a single punch.'
'Izu!'
'Oh, you're one to talk.'
'How'd you down it with one punch? Did you break your bones again?'
'Heh, about that-'
'Oh my gods, Izu! What did I tell you before the exam?'
'I had to, Fu. There was this girl-'
'A girl you say? Trying to impress the ladies, Izu?' The pink-eyed girl knew the boy could imagine the smirk on her lips from all the way across the building.
'I-Uh-no-that's not...gods, Fuyu, take this seriously. She was trapped under some rubble and that monstrous zero-pointer was bearing down on us quickly. None of the other examinees even looked back at us; they were so occupied with running away. Her quirk is a touch-based levitation quirk, but she was in a position where she couldn't reach the cement slab.
I didn't want to use my quirk to destroy the rubble, so my only option was to break the robot. I jumped using my quirk, which broke both of my legs, and then I broke my arm after punching the robot.'
Fuyu could already feel the headache starting to form.
'So, how did you defeat your zero-pointer, Fu.'
'This kid, I think he had an electricity quirk, kind of short-circuited and just stood in the middle of the street, just waiting for the robot to come and crush him. I used my vortex and pulled him out of the way and blew him back towards everyone else. But by the time I did that, the zero-pointed was practically on top of me. So carried a jet of water from the fire hydrant and contacted the robot, to which it short-circuited. Then I used one of my gales to push it back since it was going to crash right on top of me.
And after that, I just kinda passed out. I woke up less than two hours ago in the U.A. infirmary. Recovery Girl checked me out and sent me home.'
'We're hopeless, aren't we?' Izuku asked, and the two of them laughed.
They talked for several more minutes before Fuyu heard the apartment door slam.
With a few hurried whispers, the blue-haired girl hung up on her best friend. She quickly pulled a textbook from her bookshelf and cracked it open just as her father knocked harshly upon the door. Without preamble he barged into the room, and Fuyu quickly stood from her sprawled position on the bed.
"How did you do on the exam?" The similarly pink-eyed man growled out.
"I think I did well, Father, but I won't truly know until I get the results."
"You best have made it in."
Fuyu simply nodded her head and stared at her feet. She didn't want to even think about what the consequences would be if she wasn't accepted into U.A.
The female didn't want to seem arrogant, but she was fairly confident she made it in. While she hadn't kept an exact count of how many robots she'd taken down, she knew that she'd gotten at least 35 points.
But Fuyu also assumed there was more to the entrance exam than written tests and destroying a bunch of robots. It was a hero school, for goodness's sake!
The girl didn't dwell upon the thought any longer, for her father slammed the door shut, yelling to go to bed.
It took about a week for the Entrance Exam results to come in.
Feeling rebellious, Fuyu slipped the envelope from the mail stack and slipped it under her shirt, hiding it from her father who thankfully didn't notice.
The blue-haired teen waited until she heard father leave the apartment, but not before shouting some not-so-nice words her way.
The female looked down at her battered watch and grimaced upon seeing the time. She'd have to go through the packet quickly since she only had about 15 minutes before she needed to meet up with Izuku.
Taking a deep breath, the pink-eyed girl carefully slid her finger under the seal of the envelope, praying she'd be able to reseal it.
Out of the envelope fell a couple packets of important-looking papers and a small metallic disk.
The glowing disk activated upon hitting her desk, and a hologram illuminated her small room.
A semi-transparent figure appeared before her and holy shit that's fucking All Might.
"I AM HERE! AS A PROJECTION. This year I have come to teach at U.A.!
Young Takahashi, you not only did remarkable on the written exam, but also passed the practical with flying colors!
While your 43 villain points would've almost guaranteed you a spot in the hero course, there is another hidden element to U.A. 's practical exam. Rescue points were available as well!"
A scoreboard temporarily replaced the number one hero's image. At the top of it (holy shit) was Fuyu's name, with her points next to it. 43 villain points and 50 rescue points gave her a grand total of 93 points, almost 20 points ahead of the second place examinee.
Which was, incidentally, Bakugo.
Ooh, is this gonna piss him off. Can't wait to rub it in his face. Fuyu thought, a slightly evil smirk gracing her lips.
The blue-haired girl also noticed that Izuku had managed 7th place, with 60 rescue points and only 3 villain points.
"Welcome to U.A., Takahashi. This is your hero academia."
After that message, All Might's figure, which had replaced the leaderboard, flickered out.
Fuyu allowed herself a few moments to simply stare at the now not-glowy projector, almost not believing the news. She had made it. Her father, for once, would not be disappointed in her. The teen wouldn't go as far as to say her father would be proud of her, though.
Suddenly, Fuyu remembered what time it was.
Ohshitohshitohshitohshitohshit. I'm gonna be late!
Hurriedly, the girl scrambled to grab her bag and get her shoes on trying to make it out the door, but not before slipping the projector back into the packet and successfully resealing the envelope. She discreetly slipped it back into the mail stack, praying her father would assume he had overlooked it.
"Did you get your letter?" Fuyu asked her best friend. Every morning they met up in front of their building so that they could walk to school together.
"No, not yet. Mom doesn't grab the mail until later in the evening" Izuku responded dejectedly. "I couldn't have made it in. I only took down one bot, not including the zero-pointer."
Fuyu but her lip, not knowing what to say. Yes, she could tell him that she knew he made it in, but that would ruin the experience for him.
"I think there was another factor to the exam. I mean, it's the entrance exam for a hero academy. There had to have been something else they were testing us on. Something that they didn't tell us about because they wanted our genuine reactions."
"Have you gotten your letter?"
"Uh…maybe?"
The bushy-haired boy's face lit up immediately. "Oh my gods, Fuyu! Did you make it in? What am I saying, of course you did."
Fuyu smiled and rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. "Yeah, I made it in, Izu. But don't spread it around! My dad doesn't know I got accepted."
Midoriya's smile quickly fell. "Are you okay, Fuyu? Things haven't escalated, have they?"
The blue-haired teen tried (and failed) to send her best friend a reassuring smile. "I'm fine, Zuku."
The pink-eyed girl racked her brain for a topic to lighten the mode.
"Do you wanna help design each other's hero costumes?"
"Sure! Actually, I already have a couple ideas for you that would help with your quirk."
Fuyu laughed gently. "Of course you do, Izu. Though I did have a few thoughts of my own."
"What were you thinking?"
"So for the main part, I was thinking of a one piece jumpsuit. And I hate to say it, but I'd think I'd make it skin tight, since that would help cut back on wind resistance when I'm flying.
Of course, I'd want the material to be fire-proof and tear-proof. It should also be...what do they call it? Tempra-cool? Anyways, I'd want that so that my body heat is still regulated even when I manipulate the temperature to a more extreme degree.
I'd also want a utility belt either around the waist or across my torso. I could keep a small first aid kit, as well as a couple snacks. I find candy helps with the lightheadedness I get when I overuse my quirk. Plus, I'd probably attach knife sheaths to the belt, but just as a precaution.
The finishing touch would be a pair of goggles. A lot of times when I use my quirk, dust or dirt kicks up and flies everywhere. And let me tell you, it hurts like a son of bitch sometimes."
"What colors were you thinking of?"
Fuyu blushed slightly at the question. "Honestly, I kinda wanted to base it off my hair. I was thinking navy blue with royal blue accents for the suit, and then the utility belt and sheathes could be sky blue. And I kinda wanted the goggles to be pink, like my eyes."
"That sounds so cool, Fuyu. But, you know, your costume sounds suspiciously like Eraserhead's." Izuku noted slyly.
The pink-eyed girl simply blushed. "No! I mean he's a great hero and everything but-"
Izuku's laugh cut her off, and Fuyu smacked him over the head.
"Don't tease me like that!"
They bickered good-naturedly for the rest of the trip to school. After a long day at school (and a little time at the library), Fuyu made it home. She smiled upon reading the new messages from her best friend.
'I MADE IT IN FUYU'
'HOLY SHIT YOU WERE RIGHT ABOUT THE SECRET POINTS'
'WAIT YOU'VE KNOWN ALL DAY AND DIDN'T TELL ME?'
'BUT SERIOUSLY YOU DID AMAZING'
'YOU BEAT KACCHAN'
'OH SHIT HE'S GONNA BE PISSED TOMORROW'
'WAIT ITS THE WEEKEND WE DON'T HAVE SCHOOL'
'OH THANK KAMI'
Fuyu chuckled at Izuku. He somehow managed to word vomit through text, not that that was something she wasn't used to.
'WAIT WE'RE STILL GONNA WALK TO SCHOOL TOGETHER'
'RIGHT?!'
Fuyu's smile grew even more.
'Of course'
'Good night, Izu'
