Chapter Eighty-Six: Having Faith
Harry heaved another sigh as he sat down across the table from Hermione. Sitting right next to him was a brand-new Gryffindor girl. Judging by her hair and eye color (since they were the exactly the same as her older brother's Caleb) he assumed that this was Jenny Lake. He smiled at her and then looked back at Hermione the young girl started to eat.
"You should really give Draco a break." He began. "I know he puts his foot in his mouth more often than not, but I also know that he loves you and you love him in return, so if you don't forgive him then you're acting as bad as he is." He finished.
"I know, you're right." She replied.
"Besides, babies don't learn how to walk without taking the first step and he already did by saying that he doesn't want to be like his parents. I think you should go talk to him." He told her as she nodded back at him before getting to her feet and starting to walk over to the Slytherin table. That's when suddenly she was caught by the arm by Professor Umbridge.
"No mingling with the other houses." She told her while starting to drag her away from the table just as Draco looked up at her and saw the helpless look upon her face. "Now that I'm here there are going to be some drastic changes to this school." She said and after the feast Draco quickly hurried over to Harry.
"Harry, I need your help. I need to borrow your invisibility cloak because I need to talk to Hermione and sneak into the Gryffindor common room tonight." He began. "Which also means that I need the password." He finished inside a whisper while Harry started turning his head to see if anybody was around him before realizing that the coast was clear.
"Are you nuts!?" He snapped back at him inside the same whispery voice. "What are you trying to do get us both expelled!?"
"No, I just want to tell Hermione what you told me. That thing about free will." He explained before Harry took a deep breath and heaved a heavy sigh.
"Can't it wait?" He questioned him quietly.
"If the woman you loved was pissed off at you, would you wait?" Draco questioned him back.
"Well, I've never been in love before so I can't say for sure, but I guess not. Wait right here." He instructed before turning around and continuing to walk down the hallway.
…
Just as Hermione was going to go up the stairs to the girl's dormitory, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. She turned around to see both Draco and Harry standing behind her and Draco pulling off Harry's invisibility cloak. "Draco what are you doing here!?" She cried out. "You both could get expelled for this." She warned them.
"I know love but it's worth it." He told her. "I need to talk to you." He said while he walked over to her, and Harry went upstairs to bed. "Harry spoke with me about how I acted and even though I completely despise him for it he was right when he said that I should give you the free will to be with Weasley if you want to, because that's what you do when you love someone." He told her.
"Don't be ridiculous Draco." She began with a shake of her head. "You're the only person I want to be with, but I just don't like it when you act like a jackass. However,.. Harry was also right when he told me that you can't completely change overnight and if I don't forgive you then I'm just as bad." She told him as he stifled a laugh.
"And he says that he doesn't want to be a priest." He said with a chuckle and a slight shake of his head. "That's a shame, because he's awfully good at it." He pointed out.
"That's because he's been going to church since he was a baby. He's studied the Bible and Christianity a lot because that's what he was taught, but now that he's older he's also been doing it on his own an awful lot. However, I don't think that even he can help us out right now of how we're going to stand up to Umbridge." She told him while glancing down at the ground.
"Oh really?" Draco questioned her with a grin. "Then maybe I can. It turns out that I've been doing some studying of my own and do you remember that story of the muggle boy who killed that giant with a slingshot? Well, he didn't even have magic to help him, but we do." He told her excitedly.
"Draco, you don't even realize what we're up against. I don't even know myself to tell you the truth. All I know is that Umbridge told me that she's going to make a lot of changes to this school and that's really scary to me." She told him.
"It scares me too." He began with a nod. "But remember what Harry told us? We just have to have faith. And I guess in this situation it's faith in ourselves that we'll be able to have the strength to get through this year and faith that it'll be given to us from above." He told her before suddenly DJ appeared beside her.
"I'd listen to him if I were you." He told her with a grin as Hermione gave a startled shriek and DJ began to chuckle.
"Sorry, my bad baby girl." He told her.
"What?" Draco questioned with uncertainty while raising an eyebrow at her.
"Oh, nothing. I was just thinking that it was getting awfully late and we better get to bed." She told him nervously while faking a yawn. "See you in the morning." She told him while quickly hurrying up the stairs as Draco watched her from the common room.
"Well goodnight I guess." He replied with a shrug as he was a bit disappointed that he didn't get a goodnight kiss and turned around and left the room.
