Vilja Chapter 3
Fregna - Learn
Another day closer to her impending heat meant one less day to escape. Being so close to an Alpha, near him was more grueling than she had ever imagined. Taking more suppressants, she was upping her dosage almost daily. Meaning she was running short on drugs and on time.
"A"
She nodded. Using a scroll, she had written out each letter of the alphabet. Katsuki had spent the better half of the day, with her, sounding out each letter.
"H"
Again she nodded.
"Mærr, I don't see how this will hjálp"
"Say it in English"
"Do you wish to die?" He flashed her his incisors. "Don't order me Mærr"
She shrunk down at his growls and averted her gaze. Just like his pack members had indirectly taught her. "You won't learn if you can't read each letter."
"I've risen to every challenge in life, ya fancy tongue won't be any different"
"Ok, well let's start with some objects" She grabbed an apple from a bowl on the small table between them. "This is an apple"
She handed it to him and began writing the word down. As she held it up, his red eyes blazed through the paper.
"Ap..Apple" He repeated.
"Good, now how about…"
"Ginning"
As soon as she looked into his eyes she regretted it. She couldn't be sure of the word's meaning. But his gaze, awash with scrutiny and mistrust, gave away the meaning. He threw the apple back down on the table. The slapping sound echoing through the dead silent tent.
"Deception I believe ya word is for it"
Looking away from him she picked up the quil and began writing. A hand shot out, wrapping around her wrist and ensnaring her. He pulled with such force she lost her footing. Her chest smacked over the table.
Again she kept her eyes down, focusing instead on the ruin markings on his arms.
"Don't think I don't know you're hidin' somethin'. I can smell it" Katsuki hissed, sniffing her skin for good measure.
"I've been truthful to you, I saved that man's life"
"Yah, on the back of ya own survival"
"I've been truthful!"
"Lygi!" His mouth curved, large canines protruded from his snarl. "Be careful girl, I have no hesitation in killing you right here"
"Then do it!" She spat back.
His scowl turned into a grin. "With pleasure Saxon Bitch, but first you will answer my question!"
Her chest heaved as if his word influenced her body to react. Memories of her mother, abiding to her father's wishes infiltrated her mind. Was this something an Alpha had over an Omega. Could he really command her like her father had.
"How do you know Norrœna?"
The way the sounds rolled off his tongue in his native speech, made her skin prick and tighten. She shrunk down again, her body acting against her will.
"My father taught me"
"Why?"
"My father traded with some of the Norse, before the invasion begun"
His grip finally let her wrist go. "You grew up with Norse?"
She bit into her lip, forcing the words to stay in.
"Mærr, answer me."
He had taken to calling her that. She thought at first it was out of respect. But she realised he had paid respect when he had uttered her first name. Ochako. Mærr was quickly becoming a slur.
Finally she was learning what it was to be in the presence of an Alpha like Katsuki Bakugou. Her efforts to keep her background to herself were futile. She was compelled to answer him.
"Yes, I spoke with them often as a girl" She tried to stop herself. "I haven't spoken Norrœna in a long time, I've lost my skill"
"What did your father trade?"
"Weapons"
The words fell right out of her mouth, without any command from her mind.
Katsuki choked at the revelation, something triggering a volley of thoughts. "Uraraka..."
She nodded at him, mildly surprised he hadn't put two and two together when she first announced her name to him.
"Your father is Eadric Uraraka"
"Yes"
She dared to raise her eyes, now the fierce tone had left his voice. His features faded to blank once more. Besides anger and fury, she had great difficulty reading his emotions. Making for a distressing three days in his captivity. His features had softened considerably now, however. Did her father's name mean something to him?
A thought appeared in her mind. It had danced in and out since her first night spent with the savages. Their women were afforded more freedoms than Saxon women. Although many were mothers and home-keepers. Many of them also fought, and fought well.
Her own people controlled and oppressed women. She had always accepted her lot as a female. But seeing the freedom of the Norse women had awoken something inside. She wanted to learn as many 'forbidden' skills as she could before she fled.
"Katsuki Bakugou?"
His diluted gaze switched back over to alert as he looked into her eyes. Somewhat shocked from her brazen attempt to get his attention.
"Will you teach me to fight like a Shieldmaiden?"
He tsk'd his tongue and rolled his eyes at her. "þú'st no skjaldmær"
"I could learn"
"And what do ya have to offer in exchange for this training?" Katsuki asked. "Can ya forge weapons like your father?"
Her mouth clamped shut. She most definitely could not forge weapons. With no more skills to offer them in exchange, she was left with nothing to bargain with. Her medicinal and written skills had saved her life. Shame she could not offer anything else, being able to protect and fight off trouble could prove invaluable for her now.
Taking her silence as the only answer he needed, Katsuki stood up. "If ya have nothing to trade, I will not teach ya a damn thing!"
Smells of the afternoon bustle in the camp were some of his favourite. He weaved between tents, smelling out his pack members one by one. He had a personal relationship with each of them. Brought over to this foreign land to claim riches and glory. Accounting for each one, he made his way to the cooking meat.
Thoughts of the mornings lesson ran through his train of thought. She wanted to be trained as a skjaldmær. What a joke, she was a tiny thing. Who could she kill?
The men on this island kept their females weak and small. Probably eating the meat for themselves. Fear and cowardice. That's the only reason to control the women and not teach them to fight, to protect the children and land while the men were away.
Maybe he should teach her, just to piss the pompous, uptight bastards off.
A piercing scent entered his nostrils. Vomit. He quickened his pace, now aware of the sounds coming from the outskirts of the tents. Anxiety was thick in the area. His feet picked up more speed as he dodged others coming to find out what was going on.
"Alpha!" His red haired subordinate howled at the sight of him.
"Verðja víss?"
"The vǫlv… The Mærr" He corrected himself. "She saved him!"
Katsuki's distressed gaze scanned the area and landed on her amber eyes. She was cradling the warrior's head. His body laying on its side, blue stained vomit covering her clothes.
"What the fuck is going on Mærr?"
"He ate nightshade, at least, I'm not sure how much he ate. Nightshade are… they are..."
Katsuki's red haired alpha cleared his throat. "Eitr?" He offered.
"Poison?" Katsuki asked.
"Yes, eitr, I had herbs to help empty his stomach. And in a few minutes his bowels will follow. He might be sick for a few days. But he should live"
The crowd who gathered murmured between themselves.
"Get him down to the stream and clean him up" He ordered his subordinate Alphas.
"Yes Alpha"
"You" He pointed at the small brown haired Saxon. "Come to me"
Visibly her body shot upright at his words. Two large Alphas picked the sick mans body up off her. She kept her eyes low as she stood up. It seemed when she was full of passion or anger, her eyes found his. When she had a moment to process the situation, she averted her eyes. He couldn't help the growing niggle in his belly. Especially when she dared to look staright at him. She was slowly learning as his pack had when he became the protector. Why had she suddenly decided to obey? Survival he mussed, nothing else.
The crowd dispersed in a few seconds. Going back to their jobs and tasks. The small Beta stood in front of him, a head shorter.
"Alpha?"
She was indeed learning.
"Tell me from the beginning Mærr"
She took a deep breath. "I was helping with the meal preparation. I had previously picked some herbs to cook with, I went to fetch them, after coming back from my tent I saw him with the berries in his hands. He put two in his mouth before I could get to him"
Katsuki growled. The greedy bastard.
"I… I remembered I picked this root yesterday while I was on raun." She held up a dirty white plant root.
His eyes jumped back to hers, she had been looking at his face while he studied the plant, but quickly looked back down.
"It induces vomiting?" He asked. "This… root?"
"Yes, it is used for when children eat things they shouldn't, and other things…"
He grabbed her arm and pulled her in close to him."Like poisoning an enemy?" He growled.
Her body pulled back at his grasp. "It wouldn't kill anyone!"
"It would incapacitate long enough for ya to run"
"No, it tastes horrible, you can't mask it. I am not planning to run. I know better…"
He searched her face for an answer. Had she really picked the plant for innocent reasons. Or was she trying to trick him.
Raising her arm he sniffed at the root, still inside her hand. Filthy earthy and decaying scents hit him. He splattered and spat out the taste that had formed on his tongue.
"I would not be able to use this to fool you. I knew, at some point, someone in the camp would try to eat something dangerous. I can… I can teach them what not to eat. Where to hunt. I know this land, even for a Nobel!"
His eyes darted back to hers. She watched him apprehensively.
"I'll teach them. For a price… Alpha"
Clever little Saxon bitch. It would prove useful to have her knowledge at hand. Maybe training her to fight would not be such a bad idea. She was still such a tiny thing. Just like an Omega. Teaching her to not be so frail wouldn't be a bad idea.
"You will come to my tent tonight, after we eat" He commanded.
Her face contorted into a confused appearance. He snorted air out of his nose.
"I will be training you personally"
"Training?"
"How to hold a sword and shield, to fight" He said. "But be warned, I still don't trust ya, Mærr. But you will assist with ya knowledge when asked. Do ya understand?"
"Yes Alpha"
Sitting around the fire, eating freshly cooked meat and the remainder of winter vegetables from the village stores, Ochako watched the small groups conversing in their native tongue.
Some words had come back to her, and the more she spoke with them and listened to their conversations, the more she understood. Katsuki was the only one to speak fluent English. With some of his subordinate Alphas also knowing enough to converse and understand her.
Although an outsider, today the camp seemed more relaxed around her. after saving the man's life, they did not call her vǫlva anymore. Rather adopting Katsuki's nickname for her. She was well taken care of by the handful of females that were with the group. She had been given tasks to complete for the camp, no one got a free ride here, even a captive. The males had helped her forage and carry back her bounty to camp. All the while watching over her. Although she knew this was to keep an eye on her, it helped her feel safe. A Saxon who understood Norrœna was valuable, she was being guarded at all times.
In three short days she had begun to come accustomed to the busy camp, the sights, smells and sounds of the Norse made her feel strangely at home. Even their quick acceptance made her feel more at ease.
"Mærr, come" A deep serrating voice echoed.
She looked over past the fire. The Alpha was standing glaring at her through the flames. Her body obeyed his command and stood without her consent. Her little bowl still in her hands she could not help herself. The longer she was forced to be around him, the more intense his control over her became. Or was it because her body was preparing to send her into heat. She followed begrudgingly as he left camp.
Pushing his way through the material of the tent, he held it up for her with one arm. Towering over her as she entered the threshold of his domain. As she pushed passed him, his arm came down, knocking his wrist against her shoulder. A guttural moan vibrated the air behind her as he swiftly pulled his arm away from her. Obviously affected by the contact.
Sandalwood bore down on her and perforated her senses and flooded her body like an intoxicating drug. Seemingly latching onto her shoulder and soaking in through the skin. Her body raged, threatening her with an onslaught of slick. It was too late to try and ingest suppressants now. Why was his scent so strong? Had it always been this strong?
She felt his eyes on her as she unconsciously sniffed the air.
"Watch where ya going Mærr, I don't want your fucking stink on me"
Her stink on him? She was the one now covered in his scent. His divine, musky, scent. God, she felt as if she was craving more of it. Sandalwood. An indescribable ache began in her pelvis, the feeling pushing upwards to her chest and tightening. A lull sunk for a moment before the hysteria began to resurface. Utter panic. Please Lord, please, no.
Her heat was approaching.
Moving as one, his nose and ears peaked. Twitching furiously as if he was tracing a new scent. In one immediate movement he had his fur off and on the ground. His body drenched in sweat already, his bare chest heaving, pupils dilated and burning into her skin. Static electricity surrounded him, attracting everything in the tent to him. Even Ochako herself. It had finally happened, his scent was pouring out in a rage now. This was what an Alpha in rut looked like.
Her body, always obeying, began to tremble and throb in his presence. He had found out her secret. He knew she was Omega.
"Mærr!" He commanded.
She opened her mouth to explain. "I…I was" Was all she could mutter, her voice shaking
"Get out Saxon Bitch, now!"
Bewildered, all she could do was stare at him. His reaction was not fitting her reality. She continued to look at him shocked and puzzled, waiting for answers. Yet, all she saw was his body writhing in some sort of pain.
Then she smelt it, strong, sweet, thick and slick. Peaches.
An Omega entered the tent, wet with sweat and appearing in the same state as Katsuki. Her scent was so strong it burnt into Ochako's skull, overrunning her thoughts. She couldn't think clearly. What was going on?
The Omega's eyes darted to her and back to Katsuki. Silently communicating.
Green eyes traced back to hers. "Get the fuck out Saxon Bitch!" She howled.
Heat, she was in heat. Before Ochako knew it, she had fled the tent and was out in the freezing air, but her face ablaze. Heart pumping blood to her face, and to her core. Her own heat gained traction. It had never been like this, never had she felt such longing. But she had never smelt an Alpha in rut. Her body pinned for him.
Groaning and barking started to emit from the tent behind her, the smells radiating from inside seeped into her mind. Making it rush with vivid colour. She wanted to run far away, but it was hopeless. Her body impervious, sunk further into the ground. Making it impossible for her to move. The sounds of Katsuki ravishing the Omega, peaches, growling, kissing, biting completely entranced her. Her whole body ached to be touched, the growing need for him made that much worse by hearing somebody else experience it. She didn't deserve him.
All she could do was shut her eyes, imaging herself instead.
"You taste amazing my vin-sæll" Katsuki's voice was filled with density and primal tones.
"This hole is yours Alpha"
Hearing his desirable growl that followed made the omega, peaches whimper. God, how she wished it was her. Please God, let it be me.
"Knútr, Alpha, please"
Ochako's heart thumped heavy in her chest, screaming to break free. She felt a small stream of slick slid down her inner thigh. She couldn't understand the words, but her Omega could. She was pleading with him, to take her, to breed her. Ochako's body was pleading too.
"Bíta" Her moans growing louder, more demanding. "Knútr"
Ochako suddenly was aware she was outside, in the open, exposed, her hand creeping down to the hem of her dress, urgently seeking her core. If she stayed here, the other Alpha's would surely scent her descent into heat. He would too, once he was finished. The only reason Katsuki wasn't aware of her outside, sliding into heat, was because the Omega, peaches, had rocked into heat first. Survival began to creep over her need now, and finally her body moved at her command. Her hand dove into her hidden pocket within her clothing, pulling out suppressants. She shoved them inside her mouth and chewed until the bitterness was almost too much to take. Burning her mouth. Instantaneous relief was weak, but it was enough for the fog to start to dissipate.
Then, finally her body obeyed. She ran. Heading for the stream.
Early that morning he had painted his face, as if it was a mask to hide his staggered thoughts. Battle paint was used for war, to intimidate. To appear feral, beastly. Did he mean to intimidate her? Did he mean to hide his own weakness from her?
When one of his Omega's came into heat, nothing else pulled his attention away. The world closed in, their scents, their taste, their bodies, his rut. That's all that mattered.
That was until he had been wrapped up in the delicious wild berry musk just outside his tent. Engulfing him, and pulling his mind away from his vin-sæll, and her heat. The Saxon Bitch had touched him right before his rut entered full strength. Was that why he had smelt her? She had stood outside, listening to them. Her scent growing stronger. He had never known a Beta to act this way. Was she a Beta?
"This is far enough Mærr, stǫðva!"
She squeaked and stopped at his command. Not daring to look at him, in fact, all morning she had evaded his gaze. Unlike her, she always seemed to get curious at some point and look up. Intense unease crept into his chest. Her secret was painfully clear between them, but she would not relent. He needed to know what she was hiding, the distraction she caused was immense and all consuming. So much so that he almost failed to knot his bitch last night.
Never, in his life, had that happened. Not until the Mærr.
The Saxon Bitch. His face screwed up into a snarl as he watched her, stalked her from behind.
He threw her sword and shield onto the ground beside her, the loud cracking scaring her body into a tremble. She was on edge, almost as much as that first day. It ended now. He would get it from her this time, he would not stop until she submitted to him.
"Kippa" He said, projecting his voice throughout the small meadow.
Her face turned, but she still refused to look at him.
"I don't understand"
He didn't intend for the savageness of his reply to be so thick. But she had worked him into a frenzy, and ruined his rut. "Pick it up, ya wanted to learn. So I'm going to teach ya!"
Bending down, she gripped the swords handle into her right hand. Her left hand reached for the shield, however she was unable to even think about taking a stance before he was on her. Butting her shield with his sword, hardly his full momentum behind it. Regardless, it sent her flying backwards. Her ass landed on the cold wet ground with a resounding thud.
"Get up"
Her gaze flicked upwards, bright golden brown eyes met his for the first time since she had left his tent the night before. Tears welling his her lids, but all they did was light the fury in her eyes. Tears? Weakness, he couldn't take it.
His body moved before he could arrange his thoughts. His hand around her neck, squeezing.
"This is what happens if you can't defend yourself, this is what happens to the weak, this will be what…"
His proclamation ending short by the hallucinogenic and alluring air surrounding his hands, seeping up from her neck. From her scent gland. Her wild berry pheromone escalating and mingling with his own. Mixing into a toxin like none he had ever witnessed. His heart pumped furiously, filling his body with a feral need and wicked anticipation. And suddenly the thoughts he had, the way his body reacted to her. The past four days made complete sense.
Omega, she was an Omega.
