Tompkins House (Maddie's POV)-
It was six am and I was getting ready for school. I grabbed the first things I found like I did every morning before braiding my hair. Before I was done my phone was ringing and a picture of Chase and I came up. I smiled before answering and putting the phone on speaker.
"Morning babe." I hummed as I continued to braid my hair.
"Hey Madds."
"What's wrong?" I could hear it in my voice.
"Graham wants us to make a big entrance at school for the press-" Chase started.
"Of course he does." I groaned. "You know that guy only cares about himself."
"Maddie, he only wants it to be us. Without you or Leo." Chase said sheepishly.
"Wait, so we aren't walking to school together?" I asked. Chase and I had been walking to school together since before we were dating.
"He already set up a limo to pick us up. Which in my opinion, is the worst way to get to school. It is bad for the environment and it's slow." Chase ranted.
"See it's like I've been saying, Graham is stupid and selfish." I said as I finished off my hair.
"Hey are you dressed yet?" He asked.
"Yeah... why do you ask?"
"Video call?" He asked.
"Sure." I laughed. He called me and I had to admit I was lucky to have such a handsome boyfriend.
"Wow!" The screen looked like it was frozen.
"Chase? Chase? I think my screen froze." I tapped on my screen but he just laughed.
"It wasn't your phone it was me, I'm just in awe of my gorgeous girlfriend. I mean if you were with us the press would be all over you." He smiled at my obvious blush and I bit my lip to contain my smile.
"Hey Romeo! It's time to go! You'll see Juliet at school so come on!" Bree yelled from across the room.
"Love you. See you at school." Chase said.
"Love you too." I blew him a kiss before hanging up. I went downstairs and grabbed some breakfast. I would have a bit of extra time if I took my skateboard to school.
Mission Creek High School (Maddie's POV)-
I got to school right in time to see Adam, Bree, and Chase being escorted from their limo. I went up to them but a guard stepped in front of me. "I suggest you move out of the way." I growled.
"I would listen to her if I were you." Chase cut in.
"I'm his girlfriend." I said as I walked past him.
"Okay through that door is a bunch of people waiting for autographs, pictures, and interviews-" He noticed me as Chase put his arm around me. "Why are you here?"
"Again, I'd like to make it clear to you and all your goons, I am his girlfriend! And next time-" I ranted but Chase put his hand over my mouth and wrapped an arm around me to keep me from charging at him.
"I'll meet you inside Madds." He kissed my temple before letting me go so I could head inside. I went over to my locker where Leo found me.
"Who spit in your breakfast?" He laughed as he found me throwing things in my locker.
"Graham."
"Ah, yes. The leader of the doosh army." Leo laughed.
Graham walked in and spoke to the press. "Students of Mission Creek, please welcome your bionic super humans!"
Adam, Bree, and Chase walked into the flashing of the cameras. "And our trusty little mascot Chase."
"Now that I'm in charge of the bionic team, I'm gonna be taking them to a whole new level. Believe me, you're going to be seeing a lot more of us." Graham said to the camera.
"Wow, this is amazing. It's like we're celebrities." Chase said in awe and it was kinda cute.
"You're not gonna leave me behind for some groupies right?" I asked as I walked over he wrapped an arm around my waist and nuzzled into my neck.
"Now why would I do that when the most amazing girl is right here in my arms?" He asked rhetorically. I giggled. Leo just gave me a look and I shrugged.
"We are famous. And this is just the beginning." Graham started and suddenly my mood was much worse.
"I can't believe that people are so shallow, they only like us because we're bionic. This is awesome!" Bree cheered and I rolled my eyes at her.
"There you go. One forehead autograph for Pam." Oh pour Pam. Adam autographed her forehead with her own name.
Leo and Janelle went to talk to Adam and I stayed with Chase. We were talking when a reporter came up to us to interview Chase. They shoved me out of the way and Graham stopped him from helping me. The bell rang and I walked to class without him.
Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-
Today sucked.
Graham kept pulling Chase away and every time he was alone people would ambush him before I could get to him. Graham took Adam, Bree, and Chase after school so I had to walk back with Leo. It was even worse when I got down to the lab for work. The government goons were taking up all the space and even had the audacity to use my workspace. The only place I could get my work done was on the floor but they didn't care and would step on my papers.
After an hour of work I decided I would be needing some coffee to get through the rest of the day. I got up and found Davenport trying to carry a eighty gallon barrel into the lab.
"No, don't get up. I got it." He said to the guys who watched him but didn't move a muscle. We looked up as we saw Adam, Bree, and Chase come in laughing with Graham. "What's so funny?"
"Oh, nothing." Chase came over and hugged me but I didn't move.
"Agent Graham said the most amazing piece of technology in the whole lab is your hair." Adam said and they all laughed. I was too upset with them to join in.
"Ha-ha. Hysterical. You're 15 minutes late for training." Davenport exclaimed.
"Actually, their training's been put on hold until further notice. Didn't you read the memo? Oh, that's right. You're not on the memo list." Graham laughed.
"They need their training to maintain their bionics, not to mention their missions-" I tried but the dip wad cut me off.
"Yes, but right now the most important mission is getting our faces out there. That's why we're going on an international press tour." He announced.
"Wait, no training and we get to travel?" Bree cheered. "Oh, can we go to Paris?"
"Only after we go to London." Graham said I rolled my eyes. "Look, I know we kind of got off on the wrong foot with the whole "me arresting you" thing."
"Hey, just tell me we're going to Des Moines and all is forgiven." Adam said.
"Then I guess we're going to Des Moines!" I wanted to smack that stupid smile off his face.
"Yes! I love being owned by the government." Adam said something I never thought I'd hear.
"Who, whoa, whoa. Guys, this is completely irresponsible." Davenport cut in.
"Mr. Davenport, we've been training our whole lives. Don't we deserve just a little bit of fun?" Bree asked.
"I think you do. I also think you deserve a little thanks for all you've done for mankind. Don't you agree, Mr. Davenport?" Graham asked, he was trying to make Davenport look bad.
"Yes, of course, I do. But, Chase, tell him how important training is." Davenport tried.
"Well, Mr. Davenport does have a point." Chase started.
"I can show you where they keep Einstein's brain." And I knew Chase would give in.
"Training, schmaning."
"Go pack your gear. Wheels up to New York in 15 minutes." Graham announced.
"Ah, New York. The Des Moines of the East." Adam, Bree, and Chase ran off and I went back to work.
"This is insane. You're not qualified to lead them." Davenport fought Graham and I just watched. "You don't even understand how their bionic infrastructure works."
"And I really don't care. How many times do I have to tell you to stay out of my way?" I really wanted to punch that guy.
"Fine, I get it. You're in charge. But I'm not gonna stop being involved in their lives." Davenport added.
"Oh, don't worry. There's still plenty for you to do. We'll call you our Lab assistant."
"Lab assistant? That's absurd, Maddie is my Lab assistant."
"Then how about mission specialist?" He offered.
"Mission Specialist? That's like being an intern. I mean, Leo is our Mission Specialist." Davenport exclaimed.
"Then you can be his assistant. And since he's not here right now, you have the honor of going on a smoothie run." Graham smiled.
"Seriously? I'm a world renowned scientist and you're gonna send me on a smoothie run?"
"You're right. That was inappropriate. You better clear it with your supervisor Leo." Graham smiled.
...
"Maddie was a car accident on the Edminson Bridge. The wires are giving out and people are endanger. Adam, Bree, and Chase aren't coming, we need to go." He grabbed some gear and I followed him out.
It took a bit to get there but Davenport and I were able to get most people out of their cars before the bridge collapsed. After that it took much longer to help people and a lot of people got hurt, including me. I sprained my ankle, and dislocated my arm when I fell helping the woman up. When Davenport and I got back we were covered in soot and dirt and our clothes were ripped up. I sat on the couch in the lab with a bunch of ice packs and my arm in a sling.
"Oh, hey, Mr. Davenport, hey Maddie." Bree said as they walked in.
"What happened to you?" Chase came straight towards me and checked me over.
"Where have you been? We've been calling for hours." Davenport asked. I really didn't want to talk to any of them.
"I didn't even notice you called. We've been too busy flying around the country doing meet and greets." Chase explained.
"Yeah, we kissed a ton of babies. Their heads are delicious." Chase smiled.
"Here it is. Twenty-seven missed calls and a text message with a...mission alert. Well, how can we help you yesterday?" Chase asked sheepishly as I glared at him.
"You're lucky Maddie was here. I don't think I could've done it alone." Davenport said.
"Oh, that's terrible. You should've called us." Adam said.
Oh yay. Graham is here. Again. "Ah, good news, team. This weekend we're off to Paris."
"All right. Enough with the press tour. They have important work to do. Because of you, they missed a mission and people got hurt." I said to Graham.
"Well, that's unfortunate, but they have other priorities right now." Graham said before leaving.
"Oh, so getting your faces in front of the camera is more important than saving lives." Davenport said disappointed. I couldn't blame him.
"We didn't say that. It's just, things have changed." Chase explained.
"Well, I'm glad we had 16 years of bionic training so you could do the weather for AM San Diego." Davenport said with sarcasm.
"That's tomorrow." Bree said sheepishly.
"You know what? I'm really disappointed in you guys. All our hard work and all you care about is being famous." Davenport said.
"Mr. Davenport-" Chase tried.
"You know what? Save it. I thought you guys were heroes...but I guess I was wrong." Davenport left and I wish I could leave too.
"Hey guys can we talk?" He gestured to me.
"Sure what's up?" Bree rolled her eyes at Adam and pulled him out of the lab. Chase grabbed a wrap for me and pulled a chair over to sit with me. He grabbed my ankle and pulled it onto my lap. I winced but he wrapped my ankle so that it would set properly.
"You're mad at me."
"Wow, you really are a genius." I said dryly.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there for the mission. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you all day."
"You think I'm mad about that? Chase I know there's days we won't get to see each other. I know you might mess up on a mission from time to time." I took a deep breath before continuing. "But I thought I would also know that you would stand up against someone who would try to split us apart."
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"He thinks I'm not good enough for you. I guess he's right though, I mean you're a celebrity now you said it yourself." I could feel myself tearing up.
"What? What are you saying? I'm the one who's not good enough for you. Maddie you are incredibly smart, your the most gorgeous woman on the planet, you're a freaking super hero-"
"But I don't have powers anymore." I cut in remembering the scientist.
"Yet you can still take on a bionic soldier all on your own. Don't think I didn't see that." I laughed. "If anyone's not good enough it's me and Graham is just gonna have to deal with that."
"Come here." I pulled him down with my good arm and he met my lips with a smile.
It was a slow and loving kiss. Not forced in any way. We just fit together.
"I love you." I said as we pulled apart.
"Love you more." He kissed my nose and hugged me. He pulled me into his lap and I leaned my head against his shoulder. He played with my hair as we sat there together. It was a while before Adam and Bree came down to join us.
"Told you they'd be all lovey dovey when we came down. Pay up." Bree handed Adam a ten dollar bill.
"You really couldn't hold on any longer?" Bree asked.
"Nope." I popped the 'p'. "I love your brother too much."
"Gross." Bree and Adam grimaced.
"Is Davenport still sulking?" I asked as I moved off Chase.
"Yeah. He won't leave his room." Bree and Adam joined us on the couches.
"Wow, we really messed up." Chase realized.
"I know. We got so caught up in our own hype that we completely lost sight of who we are." Bree said, I could tell that they felt guilty for everything. Just because I forgave them doesn't mean they forgave themselves.
"I can't stop tasting baby shampoo." Adam said before the man of the hour joined us.
"There's my bionic team." Graham smiled.
"Agent Graham, we need to talk. We're done with your press tour. Okay? We're going back to training and focusing on missions." Bree said and Adam and Chase agreed.
"Excuse me?" Graham asked.
"Mr. Davenport and Maddie were right. People need us." Chase added.
"Well, unfortunately, he's not the boss anymore. I am." Graham said, completely ignoring me.
"Why are you still so caught up in this? You already got your promotion." Bree asked and it's because he's a jerk.
"At first, it was about the promotion, but now that the world loves you, there is no limit to how far I can take this." He said, revealing his motives.
"Well, we're done with your dog and pony show." Chase fought.
"Whoa, hold on. Nobody said anything about dogs and ponies." Adam added.
"Look, I don't have time for this. The White House called this morning. The President is making a special trip to meet you." Graham dropped.
"Wait, the President is coming here? Today?" Chase asked. It wasn't his normal cute excited nerd voice but his low scheming voice and that was attractive in a whole other way.
"Yes. If you don't show him that things are running smoothly, I will make sure you end up in a warehouse sitting in cages like the circus freaks you are. Any questions?" I knew I hated him for a reason.
"Yeah, actually I have a few. Do you want to see how far I can shove-" Chase pulled the same move as earlier grabbing me and covering my mouth. Graham left and when Chase let go of me I turned around to face him. "What are you planning?"
He smirked.
. . .
We had everything set; we just needed to wait for Davenport, Graham, and the president.
"I don't care if the President is coming. I don't want any part of it." He whined as Bree dragged him into the lab.
"Yeah, well, you were demoted so you don't have a say." I said and he shot a glare at me.
Graham entered the room and I could tell he was nervous. He should be. "He's here, he's here. Everyone in position." The president and two secret service men came in behind him. "Mr. President, welcome to the home of the world's first bionic superhumans."
"It's an honor to meet you, Mr. President. I'm Chase-" Adam pushed him aside.
"Good tidings, my lordship." Oh my gosh! Did he just curtsy?
"You must be Adam." The president laughed.
"And you must be disappointed. I'm Bree." She stepped up and shook his hand.
"Very nice to meet you. I just wanted to thank you for all the lives you've saved." Chase helped me up so I could join them.
"It was our honor, sir." Chase smiled.
"Maddison? It's been so long?" The president said, shaking my hand. I'm really glad that I could still remember him.
"Yes to long sir." I leaned against Chase, taking the weight off my ankle.
"How do you know the president?" Graham asked.
"I am actually good at my job, that's how." I shot back.
"Okay, team, it's time to show our Commander-in-Chief how your bionics work. Bree, you're up." time to set the plan in motion.
"Absolutely, Agent Graham. This is my super speed." She sped around the room and knocked Graham onto the floor before she stopped.
"What's the matter with you?" Graham whispered so he wouldn't get caught.
"I don't know. I guess I've spent so much time being a celebrity instead of training that I can't control my bionics." She said passive aggressively.
"Bree, would you stop messing around? The President is standing right there." Davenport chastised.
"I know the President's standing right there." She said.
Bree and I gave Davenport a look and he understood. "Ahh."
"Sorry about that, sir." Graham said as he dusted himself off.
"Mr. President, how about I demonstrate my molecular kinesis?" Chase offered.
"Sure." Chase smiled as he lifted me off the ground using his molecular kinesis. I flipped through the air and did some move to 'accidentally kick Graham' Chase set me down and lifted the smoothies into the air before dropping them on Graham.
"Oopsie." Chase said smiling.
"Graham, what is going on?" The president asked.
"It's fine. Everything's fine. Adam, why don't you show the President that thing you do with your breath?" Graham said. Adam went over to the president and exhaled in his face. "Not that. The big force thing.
"Oh. You mean this?" Adam blew Graham across the room using his enhanced lung capacity.
"Okay, that's enough. Okay, that's enough!" Graham fought against the wind but it didn't do much.
"His bionic breath must be stuck." Chase explained smugly.
"Davenport, do something!" Graham begged.
"Oh, look who finally needs my help."
"Don't worry, Mr. President. I'm sure one of these buttons will take care of everything." Graham started randomly hitting buttons on the desk.
"No, no, no!" He hit the wrong button and the president and she guards fell through the compartment in the floor.
"Uh-oh." Graham winced.
"Get me out of here!" The president called out from below.
"Nice going, Graham. That's one way to get noticed by your boss. Smoothie?" Davenport offered and I laughed.
"Chase bring the president back up." Davenport said and he helped Graham off the floor.
Chase grabbed a tablet a raised the floor panel back up with the president and his guards. "Thank you son."
"So, uh, Mr. President, anything else you'd like to see?" Graham asked shyly.
"Yes. Your qualifications for this job." He turned to his staff. "Call Washington, have them send a replacement for this clown immediately."
"What? No." Graham exclaimed.
"Uh, Mr. President, we have a replacement." Bree stepped in and pointed at Davenport. "Him."
"The smoothie guy?" He asked.
"He's not the smoothie guy, he's our father and our real leader." Chase explained.
"Agent Graham doesn't care about our missions or helping people. He just wants to make money off of us." Bree explained.
"And he's a dick." I added the President nodded.
"Is this true?" He asked Graham.
"Sir, with all due respect, we can't let a civilian control the world's most powerful weapons." Graham tried.
"Weapons? They're not weapons. They're his children. You're done, Graham. Get him out of here." The President's secret servicemen grabbed Graham and took him away.
"But, Mr. President-"
"Wait." The guards stopped. "I just want you to know, we'll always have Des Moines." They took him away.
"Mr. Davenport, the government owes you an apology. We had no right to come between you and your family." The president said.
"And, Mr. President, we owe you an apology, too. Our bionics didn't really glitch. We just had to expose Graham and show you that he wasn't qualified to lead us." Chase explained.
" I figured something was up. I've seen the footage of your abilities. They're quite impressive." He turned to Davenport. "Listen, if you can keep me briefed, I see no reason why you shouldn't resume control here."
"Thank you, Mr. President." Davenport said.
"Oh, before I leave, I need to do one more thing." He stopped quickly and pulled us all in for a quick selfie. "Bam! Bionic selfie. It's for my daughter." He said sheepishly before walking out.
"Well that worked out pretty well." I laughed and Chase just pulled me in and I leaned me head against his chest.
"It's been a long day, I think it would be best to go to bed." Davenport said and everyone agreed and Chase took me home.
