The First Step

"….coming here was the greatest decision I have ever made in my life." Jon said as he looked over the breakfast buffet that had been laid out for the Bacon Initiates. The proper initiation was still two hours away but the kitchen staff had set out the biggest spread across ten long tables Jon had ever seen. The only time he saw something similar to this was when he went to a award his mom had gotten for her reporting skills and the buffet that had been set out. Where do I even start? There's the pancakes, waffles, that entire table is different fruits! And are those….cereal dispensers? he thought as he walked along the tables with his tray in hand.

Finding some freshly made eggs, he added a plate of them, some well made toast, and few strips of bacon to his tray before finally grabbing some orange juice. Sitting down at an empty table, he immediately dug into the food. Oh my god these eggs are great! he thought with a satisfied hum. As Jon continued eating, other possible students came and went, he watched as a goat faunus with horns on his head walked by with some cereal in his hands. It's so cool seeing all these different people here. he thought to himself as he people watched for a bit.

Hamilton was a nice place to grow up and he couldn't think of a better place to be raised, but it wasn't the most diverse place in the world, there were a few faunus who lived in the township but that was nothing to those in Vale, or even here. As he finished eating his food, he exited the lunch room and heard someone calling his name. Turning his head, he saw Ruby standing next to her sister, "Hey Ruby. Sleep well?" he greeted politely as he approached the pair.

Ruby nodded excitedly, "Yup! Oh! This is my sister, Yang. Yang, this is Jon." she introduced, stepping off to the side a little as her sister watched her with a proud smile.

"Nice to meet you farmboy." Yang greeted with a warm friendliness as she raised her hand, Jon shook it, he could feel Yang give his hand a squeeze and she seemed surprised by his grip. "Huh, Ruby mentioned you were strong." she said in mild surprise.

The half Kryptonian smiled bashfully, "Yeah, the trees." he recalled.

Yang turned to her siter with a smirk, "Bears on Patch." she teased lightly, making Ruby give her a pout before the trio began walking towards the locker room where their gear was stored in, "So, did you see my little sister blow up yesterday?" she asked.

"Yaaang." Ruby groaned in embarrassment.

Jon smiled but shook his head, "No, and in Ruby's defense it seemed like it was just an accident." he said, the cloaked girl smiling as she gestured to him.

"See Yang? Accident." she reiterated.

The lavender eyes of her sister rolled, "Relax, I knew it wasn't your fault as soon as the princess started talking about it." she said, Jon giving them a confused look. "We ran into Weiss in the hall last night." Yang explained once she saw his baffled look. "Great personality." she added sarcastically.

He pursed his lips together, "I mean…..I don't think she's a bad person, maybe a little high strung?" he offered, while the heiress wasn't exactly nice to him, he could understand that she was a little short tempered with what just happened. And it didn't seem fair to judge someone after just meeting them.

The older sister considered his words for a few seconds and shrugged, "I guess, but still." she said as they reached the locker room. The room was fairly spacious with over a few dozen lockers lining the walls. As the three split off to gather their things, Jon recalled his locker number from the other day and followed down the line of lockers to where his assigned one should be.

As he approached his locker, he saw that coincidentally Weiss was at the one beside his, and beside her was a young woman she seemed to be having a conversation with as she retrieved things from her locker. He walked around them and saw that his locker was unfortunately right in the middle of them, however what caught him off guard was the girl which Weiss was talking with.

She was…..a warrior.

She had long, flowing crimson hair that was tied back into a ponytail that reached down her back, around her head just below her hairline was bronze circlet that had a pair of teardrop shaped emeralds on thin chains that hung near her ears. Around her neck was a piece of armor that covered her neck and collar completely while leaving her shoulders exposed. Covering her waist was a brown overburst corset that had a vertical strop down the middle which was a lighter shade of brown, that matched the trim.

Around her hips was a black miniskirt with a red sash wrapped around her waist, seemingly held in place by a bronze late on her hip that had a sigil on it that was on a belt around her sash, with two pouches . Her arms were covered with opera gloves that covered her from the bicep down, with a bronze gauntlet on her left arm with a bronze band on the same arm's bicep. What really stood out were the bronze greaves that she wore down her legs at the knees that went into a pair of combat boots, with a more flexible pieces of bronze covering her inner thighs.

Out of everyone he's seen, she looked like a huntress already, and he felt…..very underwhelming in comparison. Outside of his Superboy costume, which was tucked in the bottom of his suitcase, his 'combat clothes' were just his old jeans, a red zip up hoodie, and the white shirt underneath. All he came here to get were his work boots, "Um." he said without thinking, the two girls turned to him, Weiss' face scrunched in skepticism while the other girl's emerald eyes looked at him curiously, "S-Sorry I just….my locker." he said, gesturing to the one between theirs.

Weiss seemed sightly annoyed while the other girl gasped a little and stepped aside, "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize we were blocking you." she apologized.

He quickly raised his hand, "N-No! I'm sorry I didn't want to interrupt." he apologized back.

Weiss rolled her eyes as she too stepped aside, Jon quickly input his code and retrieved his shoes from his locker, the heiress looking at him with skepticism, "Is…..is that all?" she asked as he took a seat on a bench in front of the locker and quickly changed his shoes.

Jon didn't feel like he could look at either of them in the eye, especially the nice one, "Yes." he replied.

Weiss looked at him completely baffled, "No…no weapon? Not even a simple firearm?" she asked judgmentally.

Jon looked up at her at that, "No. I don't believe in them." he replied simply. Weiss looked like he just slapped her across the face, but he simply finished lacing his work boots up. Standing up, he adjusted his glasses again and saw Weiss looking at him in disbelief, "I'm strong and I can fight that way. But I just…..don't like the idea of having something that could kill someone." he explained.

He looked at the warrior out the corner of his eye, he was surprised to see a appreciative smile, "That's a very…interesting outlook." she decided, her voice showing curiosity.

He shrugged, "I mean I understand why they're needed, and obviously other people use them to defend others but it's….just not for me." he explained as best he could. His mother and father both taught him to respect weaponry for what they were capable of doing. Hell his mom owned a handgun and a taser for self defense, and obviously they were needed to defend against the Grimm and others who wished to do people harm, but the idea of him with a gun? Or his dad for that matter just…..didn't sit right with him.

Before the young woman could reply, Weiss moved around and stepped between hem, looking at Jon, "Jon is it? Do you have any idea who this is?" she asked, gesturing to the other girl whose faced changed to an exasperated one briefly before politely smiling.

"Oh! I'm sorry." he said, he raised his hand, "I'm Jon Kent, it's nice to meet you." he introduced, Weiss and the girl both taken aback, Weiss more indignant then the girl who warmly smiled at the offer.

She reached out and took his hand and shook it, "It's nice to meet you Jon, I'm Pyrrha, Pyrrha Nikos." she introduced, the warrior expected a look of recognition to cross his face.

She was pleasantly surprised when it didn't, Weiss seemed mor aggravated, "Yes, Pyrrha Nikos, who graduated the top of her class at Sanctum." she praised.

"Oh! Congratulations. That must have been challenging." Jon praised, Weiss' aggravation growing as Pyrrha smiled at the compliment.

"Thank you, and it was but I'm proud of my accomplishment." she replied bashfully.

The heiress quickly added, "She's also won the Minstrel Tournament four years in a row, a new record." she added.

"Oh that's cool. Setting a record I mean." Jon replied with a smile.

Weiss felt a vein begin to form in her head, "She's on the front of Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes Cereal!?" she tried again, hoping that even that basic fact would cause some recognition.

Jon gave Pyrrha a sheepish smile, "Sorry, I usually prefer eggs and sausage over cereal. Better proteins." he replied.

Weiss's eye twitched as her hands flexed in themselves, Pyrrha chuckled and nodded, "It's fine, it was cool….unfortunately the cereal isn't very healthy for you." she added disappointedly. Jon pursed his lips together and nodded in agreement, something that had marshmallows in it didn't sound like the most healthy thing to have first thing in the morning.

The vein in Weiss' head felt like it was going to burst, "Excuse me." she almost growled out as she made her away past the two, Pyrrha and Jon both watching as she left the locker room, a muffled scream coming out the other side which Jon assumed had nothing to do with her being hurt in any way.

Looking back to Pyrrha, she smiled at him, "For what it's worth, I appreciate the sentiment of not having to use weapons." she said sympathetically. Jon smiled thankfully as she turned to leave, "Good luck Jon, hope to see you at the end of the exercise!" she said cheerfully as she made her way out of the locker room, Jon waving goodbye to her.

"Smooth ladykiller." Jon jumped at Yang's voice, turning to see her and Ruby with their weapons, Yang sporting a grin on her face. "Also, bonus points for driving Ice Queen nuts." she said happily.

Jon rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, forgetting that it wasn't just them in the locker room. "I just….well I was honest."

Yang quirked a brow while Ruby shrugged her shoulders, "Well maybe Weiss isn't used to that?" she posed. Jon looked the way that the heiress left and frowned, that thought made him sad, not being able to be honest with anyone that is.

Making their way through the schoolgrounds, the first year students met at a cliff overlooking a vast forest. Along the cliffside were stone pads with Beacon's sigil on them, of two axes crossed over a circle with leaves on the lower portion. Waiting for them was Glynda Goodwitch and Professor Ozpin, the headmaster of the school looking over the students as they all lined up accordingly. "For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today your abilities will be Evaluated in the Emerald Forest." he began as Glynda stepped forward with a large scroll tucked against her forearm.

"Now, I'm sure that some of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams." she said, "Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion, each of you will be given teammates. Today." she explained. Jon could hear Ruby let out an anxious whine at the revelation.

"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon." Ozpin added, "So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone you work well with." he added, Ruby letting out another quiet wine beside Jon. He glanced over and saw the slightly distressed look she had and patted her shoulder. "That being said, the first person you make eye contact with will be your partner for the next four years."

Jon felt Ruby stiffen like a board in his grip, sliding it off he patted her back sympathetically as she let out a high pitched, "What?"

"After you are partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. Do not hesitate to destroy anything in your path….or you will die." he warned Jon glanced up at the sky and saw the position of the Sun, they were facing North right now so it should stand to reason that if they kept going straight ahead they would reach the goal. "You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path, containing ancient relics. Each pair must return to the top of the cliff. You will guard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?" he finally asked.

Jon swallowed, If they're watching us the entire time I need to be careful and make sure I only use my super strength while I'm here. he thought to himself.

When no questions were raised, Ozpin smiled, "Excellent, now, take your positions." Jon looked down and spread is legs apart as Weiss was launched into the air by her platform.

Looking over, he watched as student after student was shot into the air, however what got his attention was Ruby who looked more nervous then she did yesterday. He quickly patted her arm, "Hey, good luck." he said with a smile that made her relax and return one of her own. Within a minute, she was launched into the air, with Jon following soon after her.

Soaring through the sky, Jon recalled to when he first used his super speed and launched himself into the sky by accident, looking down at the forest below, he braced his feet out as he reached the apex of his height and soon began to call down into the forest, he heard gunfire before Yang blasted past him, the blonde using her gauntlets to propell her through the air, laughing as she flew. He saw Ruby as she fired a few shots with her sniper rife ahead of her to slow her decent enough before Jon feel in through the treeline, going through the trunk of one of the trees as he landed, and it toppling over.

Jon winced as it crashed behind him, What is it with me and tree?! he thought as he looked over his shoulder and saw the fallen tree. "Whoops." he said to no one in particular. Ok, so first thing. Is it more important to head to the goal or look for a partner? he asked himself. While the goal was to retrieve one of the relics, finding a partner was just as important. Hearing a rustling, Jon quickly turned and raised his fists…..only to see Weiss stumble through the foliage with an aggravated look on her face.

Looking up at him, he warmly smiled as shifted out of his fighting stance, "Oh, hi Weiss." he greeted in a friendly manner. "Guess we're partners."

Her face shifted from aggravated to contemplative…..who was the lesser of two evils here? She stood up straight and sighed, "no. We're not." she said as she went back into the brush.

A Moment later, she dragged Ruby out by the hood of her cloak, "You came back!" Ruby said happily. She then dropped Ruby who landed on the ground with a 'oomph!' before standing back up and brushing herself off, "Oh! Jon! Hey!" she greeted which Clark replied with a smile and wave. The heiress took a deep breath through her nose and let it out, at least things couldn't get worse.

"Oh! Hello again!" Weiss' eyes snapped open at Pyrrha's voice as she landed from the trees in front of Jon as he turned around.

Weiss swore that some deity was just playing with her today.

Jon blinked in surprise at Pyrrha's sudden appearance, "I uh, guess we're partners?" he asked, the appearance of the clearly more experienced huntress in training making him feel like he once again wasn't equipped even with his strength.

But the smile she gave him erased those doubts as quickly as they formed, "It would appear so." she said before turning to Weiss and her partner. She gave Ruby a friendly wave, "Hello! Nice to meet you, I'm Pyrrha." she introduced.

"Ruby." the red hooded girl replied with a wave, "So what should we do now?" she asked.

Weiss swore she was going to have an aneurism.

Pyrrha set her hands on her hips, "I believe we should stick together, there's greater safety in numbers." she reasoned.

Jon nodded in agreement, "Yeah, the headmaster said that the temple with the relics were to the North of here. We should head that way, and keep an eye out for anyone else." he added. Ruby and Pyrrha nodding in agreement while Weiss reluctantly agreed. Jon looked up to the sky, "Alright let's head that way then." he said as he began onwards towards North.

"Wait a minute, do you even know where your going?" Weiss asked indignantly.

Jon turned his head and nodded, "Yeah." he pointed up to the sky, "The sun rises in the East and sets in the West. Since it's morning it's still pointing towards the East, so North is this way." he explained before smiling. "My dad taught me that." he added sheepishly when he saw Ruby tilt her head questionably.

"Huh, didn't know that." Ruby said offhandedly as her new partner gave her an alarmed look.

I….I traded the plain looking dunce whose been living under a rock for the younger one who has a weapon and somehow HE'S more capable then her?! Weiss thought to herself as the other two followed after Jon. Oh dear Brothers what have I done? she thought to herself in dismay as she hunched over and walked after the group.

As the group traversed through the Emerald Forest, the two pairs of partners each kept their eyes and ears peeled for any Grimm. Jon trying to use his Super hearing discretely, as Pyrrha pushed past a branch with him behind her, she absentmindedly let it go, the branch snapping back into Jon's face breaking against him. He jumped from the sudden impact while Pyrrha let out a gasp, "Ohmygosh! I'm sorry!" she apologized.

Weiss covered her mouth to try and hide her snicker while Ruby let out a snort, Jon chuckled as well, "It's fine. Accidents happen. And besides I'm sturdy." he dismissed.

Pyrrha sheepishly smiled before a low growl was heard, within an instant the shield and spear on her back were in her hands, the shield in right and the spear in left. Weiss drew her sword, a rapier, and Ruby her Scythe, while Jon clenched his fists, suddenly a giant shadow in the shape of a a wolf moved out from the brush and lunged at Weiss. The heiress shot forward quickly along the ground, her blade slicing through it easily.

The whole forest around them came to life as a dozen of the BeoWolf Grimm charged out from the forest around them.

Ruby took off in a flurry of rose petals at two of them, twisting her scythe around the dispatching them in a single swing as Pyrrha lunged at another of the grim, raising her shield to block a strike from it's claws as she plunged her spear into it's chest.

Jon meanwhile shattered the skull of one of the head of one of the creatures with a single punch, turning to the other one that went for him. It's jaws sapped at him, and if not for his hands quickly shooting up to catch them, he might had seen the inside of a Grimm's mouth more closely. Gripping the saws of the beast, he pushed up and pulled down with one arm each, tearing it right down the middle.

A gunshot made him turn to see another one fall behind him with Pyrrha standing behind it, her spear folding into a rifle that she braced against her shield to aim before pulling it back and it's form once more changing, this time into a shorter sword which she used to slice into another Grimm. Wow she is….really good. Jon through as he uppercutted another, though he was mostly watching as his partner leapt backwards over a grim that lunged at her from behind and spun in midair, slicing it in half as she passed over it.

However as she landed, another Grim leapt onto and then off a tree over her! Jon moved fast, not at superhuman speeds, but fast enough to be convincing as he got between Pyrrha and the Grimm, raising his arms so it could bite down onto his forearm. Punching it up into the air and off his arm, he grabbed it by it's foot and swung it into an other grimm before throwing it into a tree trunk as another ran out from around it.

Before Jon could attack it, a shard of ice flew into the side of it's head. Looking over he saw Weiss with her rapier pointed at the Grimm while a few Sigils hovered around her with ice sprouting from them. Wow…..Super strength is pretty TAME in comparison to some of these. Jon thought as Ruby zoomed by and sliced another one, turning around as she skidded across the grass, and right into her partner.

"Watch it!" Weiss barked out.

"Sorry!" Ruby squealed before a Beowolf lunged at her from behind, she raised her scythe to defend herself as Jon ran on over and crashed his fist into it's jaw, sending it into a pair of them. Ruby took the opportunity to change her weapon into a sniper and finish off the two before they could get up. "Thanks!" she said to Jon who nodded at her as Weiss sliced through the last of the Grimm.

Turning to her partner, Weiss had fury in her eyes, "What were you thinking you dolt?!" she barked at Ruby as she stomped over to her, "You could have gotten us both killed if these two weren't here!" she said as she pointed at Jon and Pyrrha as she walked up next to her partner.

Ruby's silver eyes turned aggravated, "Well sorry, maybe if you weren't just standing around wide open I wouldn't have run into you!" she snapped back.

Weiss scoffed as Pyrrha leaned over to Jon, watching the exchange unsurely, "Should we…..do something?" she asked.

Jon rubbed the back of his head, "I mean I want to...but-" he started before Weiss interrupted him with her surprisingly loud voice.

"Do you have idea what proper form is, or did they not cover that at whatever school you were plucked out of?!" Weiss barked back.

Ruby fumed, "Form isn't really that important when your in the middle of a fight with Grimm!" she replied back.

Jon stepped forward, "Um, girls-"

They both turned to him, "NOT NOW!" they both shouted at him.

"Ok! Ok, I'm gonna….um…." Jon said, backing up next to Pyrrha.

She raised a finger as a excuse came to mind, "Scout ahead! We're going to….scout ahead!" she said, Jon nodding in agreement as the pair quickly turned and headed North a few yards through the forest. The pair could sill hear the partners still bickering, but at a much lower decibel, Pyrrha let out a breath, "Well….they are….certainly…Ummmm…." she said, reaching across her self to gab her elbow as she tried to think of a polite word.

"Spirited?" Jon provided. The redhead nodded and smiled at his choice of word, "Yeah, I mean….you guys are all skilled it's just….well they didn't have the best first impression." he said. I mean if I was blown up by someone I'd be a little trepidatious around them. Even with my powers. he thought to himself.

Pyrrha's cheeks warmed at his praise but her smile didn't falters, "You shouldn't sell yourself short Jon, while you might not have as much experience as others, I think you have great potential." she complimented. She had watched Jon during their scuffle, and while he didn't have range like the rest of their little group he held his own despite his inexperience.

Jon smiled at her words, his glasses sliding down his face a little before he adjusted them back into place, "Thank you Pyrrha, that's nice of you to say." he said gratefully. His partner bowing her head ever so slightly in acknowledgement. Looking around, Jon focused on their objective, "I know we're heading the right direction, but if we could get a better view we could probably see where the temple ruins are."

Pyrrha nodded, "Agreed, if we could get to higher elevation we might be able to spot our objective easily." she reasoned.

Jon looked to a nearby tree and gestured to it, "We might be able to see it if one of us climbs the tree." he reasoned, Pyrrha looked at the one he gestured to and measured it up with her eyes. It seemed tall enough to give them a good overview of the area, Jon clapped his hands together ad rubbed them, jumping off the ground he reached the lower branches of the tree with no issue and began to climb towards the top.

As Pyrrha watched him climb, Ruby and Weiss approached her, the two of them looking equally upset. However, Weiss took a deep breath before speaking, "Pyrrha, where is your partner?" she asked a little tensely, as though one more thing that went wrong would set her off.

"Oh, he went to see if he could spot the temple from atop the tree." she explained, pointing up with Weiss and Ruby following her finger to where Jon was. "I was about to offer but he beat me to it." she added.

Ruby smiled a little, "Aw that's nice."

"And fortunate." Weiss added, making both of them give her a curious look. "Um….the three of us are wearing skirts." she pointed out.

Pyrrha and Ruby's faces both turned red as their hair and cape respectively, Ruby sputtering out, "I-I-I don't think he would look Weiss!" she shrieked.

"Hey guys!" The trio looked up to see Jon waving down at them, "We're in luck! It's just over that hill! I can see it from here!" he called out as he pointed towards the east. Relief washed over the three girls, Weiss letting out a particularly long beath she seemed to have been holding in. "Come on lets-" Jon began before a large mass of black feathers swooped down and scooped Jon into it's beak!

"….OHMYGOD HE WAS EATEN!" Ruby shrieked as Pyrrha quickly leapt up the tree, leaving a beyond startled Weiss and Panicked Ruby behind for her partner. Reaching the top branch, she saw the gigantic Nevermore Grimm circle around through the skin, extending her sword into a spear, she raised her other hand with her thumb up to aim.

When the creature turned towards her, she let loose the spear and hit it right in it's eye! The bird roared in pain, opening it's beak to show Jon inside! The startled teen quickly got up onto his feet and raised his hands to stop the beak from closing down on him again, "Ok that's a first!" he yelled out before throwing his arms up to let the Bird's maw open for hum to jump out and fall back onto it's wing. Grabbing the feathers, he positioned himself on top of it as it flapped. Rushing down it's back, he reached the beat plucking Pyrrha's weapon out before leaping off the Beak, the force of his jump making it's head recoil as he fell down towards the temple where he saw two familiar shapes already there.

Landing on the ground, he stumbled a little before falling forward, not entirely acting as though he was shaken, "That was….the most….disgusting thing….ever." he said as he rolled over onto his back. Taking a second to recover, Blake and Yang approached him, having watched him fall from the sky, and leaned over to inspect him, "Oh…hello." he greeted.

"Did you just get eaten by a Nevermore?" Blake asked absurdly, he nodded.

Yang on the other hand beamed from the confirmation, "That is pretty awesome." she complimented before offering him a hand. He took it and she easily picked him up off the ground and helped him onto his feet, Jon reached up and ran a hand through his hair, surprised to feel his glasses still in place. Turning to the way he came from he saw Ruby, Weiss, and Pyrrha rush out from the foliage, his partner looking relieved at him, "Wait….whose Ruby's partner?" Yang asked. Jon turned to her with a look, making the blonde slowly realize, "Oh….oh noooo…." she drawled out while Blake patted her back sympathetically.

As Pyrrha rushed over, Jon presented her with her spear as she slowed down in front of him, "Thank you. That was…..not what I expected to happen." he laughed

Pyrrha took her weapon back with a relieved smile, before she could reply however the sound of an explosion made the group jump at the ready for a new fight. There was another one, and then another, closer and closer to them before, "Yeeeehaaa!' a girl cried out excitedly as a Bear like monster, a Ursa, ran into the clearing of the temple ruins with a girl with orange hair on it's back.

The Ursa collapsed into a heap, it's rider tumbling off onto her knees and blinking before looking back in disappointment, "Awww….it's broken." she whined. The girl looked ahead to the others, her turquoise eyes blinking at the other students, she wore a black collard sleeveless vest with a blue section in the center with red accents, on the back of it was an emblem. Underneath that she wore a white sleeveless T shirt with a hear shaped cutout above her breast line, with a silver armor piece around her waist, the back of her neck and below her chest. She wore a matching pair of detached sleeves on her arms and a set of pink fingerless gloves. With a short pink skirt and white layer beneath it, her feet covered by pink ankle boots.

Stumbling out of the brush behind her was a young man around her age, he had long black hair that was tied back in a ponytail that went down his back with a magenta streak on the left side of his bangs. He wore a dark green, diagonally buttoned long sleeved tailcoalt with pink cuffs on the sleeves, with a pair of white pants that he was currently haunching over to catch his breath. "Nora….don't do that again…please." he asked as he looked to where Nora was a moment ago, only to see her gone. Looking around, he saw Jon point toward the temple where sure enough his partner was inspecting one of the pieces.

Picking one up she held it up high in victory, "I'm queen of the castle, I'm queen of the caste!" she sang triumphantly.

"Nora!" her partner called out.

The girl smiled as she stood and saluted, "Coming Ren!" she called out as she rushed over to her friend's side near the group.

Ren turned to the others, "We should probably get moving. All of us." he said hurriedly.

Jon nodded, "He's right, that Nevermore could be back any second." he agreed, Pyrrha nodding with him.

"Nevermore? No I meant the Deathstalker, what nevermore?" Ren asked in confusion.

The others collectively blinked, "W…what do you mean Deathstalker?!" Jon replied before he heard it, something skittering towards them through the forest, "Oh crap that Deathstalker." he said before a gigantic scorpion Grimm with bone armor hide emerged from the tree line, it's pincers snapping at the air.

Yang let out a sigh, "Well, the gang's all here. Now we can all die together!" she said jokingly.

Ruby raised her scythe with a confident smirk, "Not if I can help it!" she said before shooting off towards the deathstalker on her own!

"Ruby wait!" Yang said worriedly before rung after her, Pyrrha, Weiss, and Jon chasing after her as Ruby swung her scythe at the Deathstalker who batter her away with one of it's massive talons.

Jon ran as fast as he reasonably could go, he could easily cover the distance in a few seconds at full speed. But thankfully, Ruby seemed to realize that she was in over her head and fell back, running to meet the others halfway in the clearing Jon swathe nevermore circle back in the sky. It's gigantic wings thrust forward and shot forth an few dozen feathers with razor tips! Pyrrha raised her shield as the four kept running, with one of the feathers pinning Ruby to the ground through her cape!

Yang skidded to a halt as a trio of them landed in front of her, one collided with Pyrrha's shield, knocking her back while Jon and Weiss continued forward. Jon's eyes glanced up from Ruby as the Deathstalker neared her to the sky just in time to see a feather coming right for his head!

And just as the jolt of fear ran through him, the world slowed down around him, the feather's razor tip that was speeding towards him now moving at the speed of a snail, just as Jon was. What the…..oh crap this is it! I'm reacting at super speed! he realized, raising his hand up, watching as it too went in slow motion. Reaching up as the feather got closer, he raised his arm and batted it out of the way, watching as it slowly flung behind him.

Turning his attention back to Ruby, his eyes widened when he saw that the Deathstalker's scorpion tail was reeled back and lunging at her! Oh no! I gotta-I gotta…If I move at super speed I could get her out of the way but they must be watching us right now! I can't- he began to think before he glanced around for some way to stop the stinger, only to see Weiss much closer than he was, one of her glyphs beneath her feet making her skate across the ground with her rapier poised towards the ground in front of Ruby and the stinger.

I think…..I think she'll be ok. he thought as he began to calm down, suddenly time resumed it's normal speed and an Ice wall was erected between Ruby and the scorpion, courtesy of Weiss. Slowing to a stop, Jon looked up to see the Nevermore fly overhead and away from the clearing. Well with how big it is, it's gonna take a little time for it to turn back around. he said hopefully as the others joined them, Yang going over to give her sister an embrace.

"Um guys, that thing is circling around for another attack." Jon altered the others, pointing at the Nevermore in the distance.

Weiss folded her hands onto her hips, "We shouldn't stay here any longer then we need to." she advised.

Ruby nodded, "She's right, we're supposed to get the relics and return to the cliffs, we don't need to fight." she added, Weiss smiling a little at her partner's agreement.

"I can get behind that." Jon said as he began to run back to the temple to snag one of the relics with Ruby. Reaching the center of the ruins there stood two podiums left with a relic on each both of them chess pieces with one being a knight, and the other a rook. Ruby grabbed the Knight as Jon pocketed the Rook. Both giving each other a congratulatory nod before running off to catch up with their classmates.

Rushing through the clearing towards the south, the group of initiates were pleased to find a long pathway leading back towards the school. However it also proved to be a clear line of sight for the nevermore overhead to spot them, and to make matters worse the Deathstalker had broken free of Weiss' ice and was chasing after them as well. "Ok! Note to self! When there's a trapped Grimm! Make sure you kill it!" he yelled out to everyone.

Pyrrha nodded as she ran alongside him, "True!"

"Yup!" Ruby agreed.

"No crap!" Yang exclaimed.

"Sorry everyone!" Ren Apologized.

"I swear I thought that it's tail was a relic!" Nora said defensively.

The group continued onwards towards the cliff where a old tower spanning the gorge between the forest and the cliff connected the two. "There! It's our best chance of getting up there!" he said as the they all continued running. As they neared the stone bridge to the tower, Pyrrha stopped and turned around at the gate, firing at the Deathstalker in an attempt to slow it down.

"Go, go, go!" she called out as Ren and Blake stopped as well to buy some time, as Jon ran across the bridge however, the bird cry to his right was his only warning before the nevermore flew through the bridge! Cutting off the group with those fighting the scorpion while the others like Jon regained their footing. Looking across the gap in the bridge, he saw Pyrrha, Ren, and Blake attacking the Deathstalker.

Standing up, Nora joined him at the ledge of the bridge, "We gotta help-" she started before Jon leapt from the bridge and through the air. Jon's feet slammed down atop the scorpion's head, causing it's rear body to lift off before he leapt back, and slid across the ground, accidently knocking Blake off!

"Crap!" he exclaimed, turning around as the ribbon wearer threw her blade out and swung on the line she was holding onto. Jon let out a breath of relief as Deathstalker hissed behind him. It's tail lunged at him, he raised his hands to catch it only for an explosion behind him to go off with Nora flying over his head with a gigantic battle hammer in her hands she used to bat the tail away, landing in front of Jon.

Feeling the ground shift below him, he recognized that the remainder of this portion of the bridge wasn't stable, "We need to move, now!" he said, Ren, Nora, and Pyrrha nodding as they all charged the deathstalker. It swung one of it's claws which Pyrrha braced against while Jon ran into it's head directly and threw his shoulder into it, the force of his blow knocking it back far enough away that they could get off the bridge.

It's other Claw swung at Ren, who leapt up and atop the mandible, two guns with blades reaching down from the barrels shooting at it's head. Jon grit his teeth, It's that stupid armor on it's head. If I can just get it off then we could end this fast. he thought as he raised his arms and braced against the other claw's pincer's that tried to grab him, but he managed to hold off with his strength just barely.

Jon grunted in exertion as he fought against the force of the creature, this thing could have snapped that ferries wheel at the county fair in two with these things, "Jon!" heturned his head to see Pyrrha reel her arm back and lauch her shield at him. He tried to read what she wanted him to do but it seemed to abruptly turn and lodge itself between the apex of the picners in front of him!

Dropping down, he grabbed the shield and then bashed the arm away before tossing it back to Pyrrha as she ran over to him. "I think I can get that armor off it's head." he said assuringly as he looked to Pyrrha. She seemed to consider it for a split second before nodding in agreement, "Cover me!" he called out as he ran forth to the head, Pyrrha using her Shield to guard his right side rom one of the Claws while Nora based the other away. Jon grabbed the bone armor with his full strength, digging his ahdns into eh cracks they made as it's tail coiled back.

Before it could strike however, Ren ran up behind Jon and leapt onto his shoulder and sprung off, slashing his blade through the part of where the tail connected to the stinger, having been loosened from having to pull itself from the ice, Ren's blade sliced trough the remaining tendons, making the creature howl in pain before Jon ripped the open armor off it's head and reeled his fist back and threw it forward with all his might, the head of the creature was crushed and a shockwave of it's body slamming into the ground shook the immediate area.

As it began to sizzle away into ashes, Jon took a breath and turned back to his partner and the pair who helped him vanquish the Grimm. Nora beamed at him with sxcitement, "Woah…..your strong!" she said delightfully.

"Thanks, but we should probably rest before we help the-" he started before looking up to see the Nevermore pinned to part of the temple with ice, while Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang all worked together to put together a makeshift slingshot using Blake's ribbon and Weiss' glyphs with Ruby as the projectile. "-others?" he said in confusion as the other three turned to see Ruby be shot directly at the Nevermore, her Scythe hooking at it's throat as she slammed it into the cliffside, more of Weiss' Glyphs appearing up the side of the cliff face before Ruby shot up the side, drappignt he Nevermore with her until she reached the ledge, pinning the nevermore against it before she shot her rifle, the recoil cutting through and decapitating the beast.

"…holy crap." Jon said as the giant Grimm's carcass began to disintegrate as it fell.

The small group was silent as the battle finally ended, taking a moment to finally relax before Nora spoke up, "So…how do we get up there?" she asked.

Thanks to the makeshift slingshot the girls had made, getting up to the top of the cliff turned out to be more enjoyable then difficult. And after returning to Beacon with the relics, the eight of them were ushered into a hall where the other freshmen teams were being formed. Since he and Pyrrha had gotten the rook piece like Nora and Ren, the four of them would be on a team together. Standing off to the side of the stage with his new team, Jon's heel nervously tapped against the floor. He had actually done it, he got into Beacon! And he was on a team! And in a few seconds it would be official.

AS the team before them, CRDL walked off the stage, he looked back to Ruby, Yang, Weiss, and Blake, the caped girl giving him a small thumbs up in encouragement which he gave her back before walking up to the stage with his new teammates as the crowd clapped for the team before them. Lining up with his hands folding in front of him, Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren slood to his left in that order.

"Jon Ken, Pyrrha Nikos, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren. The four of you retrieved the white Rook pieces." Ozpin surmised as their faces appeared on the screen above their heads for the crow od students attending the ceremony. "From this day on, you will be known as Team JNPR." Ozpin said as Nora let out a happy laugh and hugging Ren while the faces on the screen arranged themselves in that order, "Lead by Jon Kent."

Jon's brain short circuited as Pyrrha turned and smiled at him, "W-W-What?!" he barked out in disbelief. I-I'm leader?! Me? I've-I've never lead anything in my life! he thought in a slight panic before Pyrrha playfully hit his arm good naturedly to congratulate him. As they walked off the stage, Jon was still in a bit of a daze.

Nora turned to him and beamed, "Congratulates Fearless Leader! How do you feel?" she asked excitedly.

Jon swallowed, "Like I need to sit down." he said honestly.

Pyrrha put a hand on his shoulder, "You should be proud." she replied.

"You were the one to come up with a plan to kill the Deathstalker." Ren pointed out.

Jon wasn't entirely convinced, but instead focused as Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang were formed into team RWBY with Ruby as the leader. "That's…..a little…." he tried to find the polite way to put it.

"Complicated?" Ren Supplied.

"Confusing?" Nora added.

"Yes." Pyrrha said with a nod. At least no one on their team was named Juniper.

As Yang and Ruby shared an quick embrace, the two new teams gathered together as Glynda approached them. "Your dorm rooms are thankfully across from each other, if you'll all come with me I'll show you to them. We already moved your bags in." the professor informed them. The new students nodding as they all followed her out of the auditorium.

Opening the door to JNPR's dorm, the team was met with four beds, each of them against a different wall with a small table next to it with a desk next to them. The large window opposite of the door had a bookshelf beneath it. To the right there was a door which led to a open bathroom with a trio of showers and a large sink for four people inside it and only one toilet.

As the team filed in, Jon saw their luggage was in the center of the room, walking over to his suitcase, he picked it up and looked around. "So….um….does anyone want a bed in particular?" he asked. They didn't look much different from one another in any considerable way.

Pyrrha shrugged as she picked up a large dufflebag that was the same shade as her armor, "Not in particular."

Nora rasied her hand, "I call the bed next to Ren!" she declared.

"Nora….none of the beds are close to each other." he points out, each one of them was against a corner of the room. They were nowhere close to one another.

Nora cupped her chin, "Hmm. They planned for this." she playfully joked.

"Well how about partners are on the same side of the room in opposite beds?" Jon suggested.

Pyrrha nodded, "That seems like a practical set up." she agreed.

Ren nodded as well, "Yeah, are we even allowed to move the beds?" he asked.

Jon shrugged, "I mean Professor Goodwitch said that we're responsible for the rooms." he pointed out. "But that could just be keeping it clean and organized." he assumed before shaking his head, "Anyway, ladies you can use the bathroom first to get changed." he offered, Ren nodding in agreement.

Pyrrha seemed about to protest before Nora grabbed her arm, "Awthat'ssonicethankyou!" she said as she yanked Pyrrha into the bathroom and closed the door behind them before the redhead could protest.

Jon turned to Ren with an amused expression, "Is she always so excitable?" he asked.

Ren solemnly nodded, "Yeah…..you get used to it after a while." he said with content as he grabbed his bag and walked over to the right side of the room and to the bed closest to the door while Jon took the opposite end of the room. Opening his bag up, he took out a set of Pajamas. Glancing over his shoulder at Ren he made sure he was busy before pulling his clothes aside and saw his Superboy Jacket buried beneath his other clothes.

As he began putting his clothes away in the Dresser at the end of his bed, he kept his jacket inside the bag and slid it underneath his bed. He also had taken out photograph that he had gotten of him and his parents at their farm, the picture was of him when he was younger at the county fair, his parents were behind him with their hands on his shoulders and smiling while he crossed his arms and beamed at the camera. Krypto was sitting down in front of them like the good boy he was.

Oh I better call them! he thought as he reached for his scroll and stood up before turning to Ren, "I got a call I need to make, feel free to use the bathroom after the girls are done, I can wait." he offered. Ren smiled and nodded at the offer as he walked out of the dorm room and closed the door behind him. Scrolling to his mom's phone, he walked down the hall to the common room before dailing the number.

He heard it ring only once before she picked up, 'Jon! Honey are you?' his mom asked excitably. It may have just been a day since he saw them but hearing her voice was still nice.

"I'm good mom. We just got settled into our dorms." he explained, looking out the window to the full moon in the night sky.

'This late? Why so-oh hang on your father just flew in. Honey it's Jon!' he heard her call out before she puthim on speakerphone.

"Hey dad." he greeted with a smile.

'Hey Kiddo! How was the first day?' he asked.

Oh god this was just the first day wasn't it? "Well we were thrown into a forest full of Grimm, told to retrieve relics from a temple to decide our teams, I got eaten by a nevermore-"

'Imsorry-What?!' his mom exclaimed.

"A Nevermore. It's a grimm that's a big bird? It's the size of an airship." he described. He swore he heard his dad trying not to laugh.

'It ATE you?!' Lois asked, not in a panicked voice but more of a disbelieving one.

"Well I was up in a tree, scouting ahead for the temple, and when I looked down, it scooped me up into it's beak for a minute before my partner got it to open wide." he explained more clearly.

'Oh! Ok, that's not being eaten.' Lois replied.

Jon shook his head in bewilderment, "What?! No that's being eaten! I was in it's mouth!" he protested.

'Well, do you eat Gum?' he heard his dad ask.

"…ok fair. I was chewed on then." he replied back. "And then one of my teammates, I found out later she was my teammate, came riding in on an Ursa with a giant DeathStalker chasing after her and her partner." he revealed.

He swore he could hear his mom shutter, 'Ugghghggh I hate those things. Anything with more then four legs needs to die.' his mom declared, and he couldn't help but nod in agreement with her.

'Sounds crazy.' His father said in amusement. 'Did you have to….do anything?' he asked carefully.

"No I-OH! I totally forgot! My perception kicked in for a second!" he said, recalling how time slowed down around him for a brief period of time. "It was so strange, it was like I was swimming through water." he recalled having seen how slow his body was moving.

'That's great! It takes a while for controlling that but that's a big first step.' his dad praised, making Jon smile. 'So what else happened?'

Jon got back to the story, telling about how he and RWBY each took down the Nevermore and Deathstalker respectively and was then assigned teams, "-and then we came up, we're team JNPR, J-N-P-R, And…..I'm the leader." he said, still having a hard time believing it.

'What! Oh Jon that's great news!' his mom praised.

Jon's hand slid into his pocket, "Yeah it's just…..I don't know how to do that. I mean I've never lead anything….except Krypto but I don't think that's a good comparison." he explained.

'Jon, listen. I understand that your anxious. Being a leader, of any kind, isn't a easy job to have.' his father said to him. Jon frowned as he looked down, he had studied the history of Earth and Krypton and he knew that some nations that were great could be hurt or even destroyed by one bad leader.

"Any advice?" he asked.

Lois was the first to reply, 'Being a leader means that you live by example, just be your best self. And you should be fine.' she said.

'I couldn't have put it better myself.' his dad added.

Jon smiled, "Thanks guys…..i gotta go, catch some sleep. I'll call soon. I love you guys. And krypto." he added jokingly.

'Love you too son, we miss you.' his dad said.

'Love ya kiddo.' his mom replied before hanging up. Pocketing his scroll, Jon smiled to himself before turning around and heading back to his dorm room. Slipping inside, he saw that Pyrrha and Nora just finishing putting their clothes away and were wearing their Pajamas. Pyrrha had on a comfortable set of light brown Pajamas with a buttoned up collar, and Nora had on a black T shirt with the word 'BOOP' across the chest in pink with matching shorts.

"There ya are! Ren said you were abducted!" Nora said playfully.

Jon smiled but shook his head, "Nah, I just wanted to call my folks. Tell them about my day." he said, Nora giving him a genuine smile.

As Ren exited the bathroom, wearing what seemed to be a Minstrel styled green robe over a lighter green tunic with a red sash around his waist with a pair of baggy dark green pants. He quickly took his PJ's from his bed and entered the bathroom, quickly showered, and brushed his teeth before getting dressed and exiting and walked over to his bed, setting his glasses down on the table beside his bed he climbed under the covers and sighed blissfully at the comfort after camping out in the hall last night.

As Ren turned off the light, the new team slowly drifted off to sleep.

Jon smiled to himself, today was the first step. And it wasn't a bad one.

Brave2000: Yeah but even simple magic can effect Superman, he doesn't have any defense against Magic. Like it won't instantly kill him or anything but it'll still hurt him. I mean there's powerful magic obviously but I think from what we've seen? Ozpin and Salem have some pretty heavy hitting stuff under their belts.

Awesomerebel55: That's actually from a superman story called Last Son, where theysay the same thing to Chris Kent.

Shadow Proclamation8: That's more in line from what I've got in mind.

Robblemontes: Yeah they have a good friendship.

AN: We're finally here, in two days, the real son of Superman takes up the mantle! Man I can't wait! I mean I know he was Superman in that brief Future State thing but honestly it was weird, and with Tom Taylor at the helm I got big hopes.

Until next time, be good people!
