Rin had always been insanely strong for a human, now he guesses he knows why. He never had any trouble pulling himself up in tree or telephone poles. He could run faster than anyone in the class. Once when he was small his father, Shiro the priest, told him it was kind of mean. He explained that people don't like to lose by such a large amount and Rin could keep winning but he had to keep close to the person in second.
At the time, the child did not think anything of this outcome. It actually made the games more fun for him because he never knee what kind of person would be behind him. He was always so focused at running ahead he never bothered. He still kept winning class races and stuff but never by a large margin. He even got second and third on occasion because he was not paying attention or they went faster at the last minute.
For some reason though, Shiro would not let Rin join any teams. When he asked why, Shiro said it was because he was too strong and he did not want Rin to hurt anyone. He joked it off of course, that's what he always did, but Rin could tell he was serious. Still a child will rebel and in his first year of middle school, he tried out for football.
He never tried out for anything again. He broke someone's arm and leg. Through the screaming of the other child and his own bleary vision, he decided maybe he would not try that again. He also vowed he would never hurt anyone like that again. No activities and a strong since of justice did leave him as the odd man out in his class though. He had no interest in the other club activities.
He became a bullying target. When older and very strong kids started beating him on a regular basis, he got an idea. If he started out with really soft punches and gradually made them stronger, he could find out how much is too much. Plan in place, it took a while to get it right. Fighting to him never felt wrong like people said it was. Yeah, some of the people he fought with were scum and trash but a lot of them were just like him in a way.
They wanted someone to test their limits on. As he spent more time fighting these type of people, the other type became sparse. He tried to explain it to the school and Shiro but they just did not understand. Most of the people involved did not rat out anyone but the bruises always gave Rin away with his father and brother, Yukio. He thought if anyone understood, it would be his younger twin brother.
Apparently he never could because he questioned him harder that Shiro did when he came home late. Fighting was just fun for him. He could control his strength and others could test themselves. It never got that far out of hand and he could take more of a beating than most. He could tell so much about the other person and it was better than playing outside or talking to friends. Most of those fighters always left with both sides feeling accomplished and keeping their pride.
Now sometimes the police were involved in the trash humans. They reeked to the boy but he always managed to find them. Another thing he did not know how to explain to anyone and took him awhile to figure out no one else could do it. Evil people almost had a smell about them. Rin could tell that someone was up to trouble by smelling them. Being raised in a church instilled a strong sense of justice in him so he would not hesitate to go after people that smelled like trouble.
If it was something really bad than he could convince the police to let him go home without calling Shiro. He has stopped numerous muggings and rape attempts in his 'territory' that he hang out in after school. The church noted the drop in crime but brushed it off as a new guy on the force. Thinking too hard about it made Rin's head spin so he quit thinking to hard.
When he found out he was a demon, his strength made sense to him. The denial into the sports stuff made sense to. It filled the older twin with a sense of regret that nobody told him that it was normal for his situation. He was a monster, but that did not mean he did not deserve to know it. Letting his mascarade as a human for so long was cruel in it's own way.
For a long time after his transformation, Rin would not touch anyone for fear of hurting them. If he had to explain why, his strength before was about a 2/10 and now it felt like someone had turned the dial up to an 8. Even when he started touching people again, they would always comment about how gentle he was. Of course he was, did they not know how breakable they were. He wanted to keep his friends and brother safe and he could not do that if they were afraid he would hurt them as well.
His younger brother, being a higher rank, never even questioned bringing him into dangerous situations. Rin hopes it's because he realizes how strong his brothers body is and not because he wants him to get hurt. He could be stabbed and slammed into wall and come out with bruises. He did break bones but as long as he slept after, they would heal on their own. He could be the shield to protect his brother. Finally something he could do with his strength.
When his classmates found out about his demon heritage, they began to avoid touching him now. All that practice gone to waste over night. It took everything Rin had not to go back to fighting and following rotten humans again, but he had something not many people could claim to go with that physical strength. He had faith in his friends.
Even if they never forgave him, they would not be cruel like many others had and eventually they got use to him. The first time Shiemi, the small blonde in his class, allowed him to touch her again, he almost cried. This touch was so powerful and gave the others to initiate touch again. Soon, everything was as normal as it could get when you were going to school with the son of a demon.
Now he also never had to hide how strong he was. He had no problems using his full power on a demon trying to hurt his friends. The look on Bon's face when he hit a golem so hard it's head popped off would forever be in his memory. He did hold back on the battle field and he could help more off of it as well.
It came up in a normal conversation when they were cleaning out the classroom. While making small talk, Shima noticed Rin was picking up two desks at a time and not breaking a sweat doing it. The desks were made out of wood and were quite heavy. The girls had to drag them and the boys had to take them one at a time.
It was an innocent comment that got everyone including Rin thinking. What was the comment? Well Shima simply looked on in amazement and asked "Man how much can you pick up, you are insanely strong." A little confused because he had never thought about it before, Rin replied without much thought "Dunno, A lot. Nothing ever feels heavy to me, except that rock thing from out esquire exams" he tried to play it off.
"Well,,,," Shima continued the thought, "since we are all fighting together, why don't we test how much you can lift and throw". Getting an excited look in his eyes "I bet the gym is open right now". Curious, they all decided to take a break and go to the gym. Now measuring strength for someone like Rin was difficult.
He ran half the time the fastest runner did and was Bon was mad. Apparently keeping up with second stayed with him when he was running in a group. He spent 10 minutes on pullups and sit ups before they decided to give up on that, he was not even winded. Shima got that mischievous spark again and set up some mats in the floor.
This led to some goofing off while everyone was doing flips and man could Rin jump high. When Yukio found them over an hour later after coming in to find the classroom was deserted he walked in on the strangest sight ever. He took one look at it and decided it was not his problem, turned around, and silently walked out the door without being noticed.
He saw the others taking turns getting Rin to throw them from across the room onto the padded mats. The group was giggling and laughing as they tried to fall like they were taught in gym class. Rin was actually showing them better ways to do it to. It was amazing to see him showing them instead of the other way around. It went from a test of strength to a group activity about falling. They never did decide how strong Rin was but one thing was clear. He would have no problems picking up an ally in trouble.
Nobody wanted to question why Rin knew these things but the curiosity got to Koneko, the monk in the group, and he finally burst with the question. W..With how strong you are, why do you know this stuff he asked with a stutter. Not wanting to ruin the good mood. Rin did not get upset like Koneko thought he would. If anything he looked thoughtful for a moment.
This group of friends he had now was like a dream come true. They accepted him for who he was and did not question why he was the way he was. He could tell it was genuine curiosity in that question so they all circled up on the mat and he began telling them tales.
He told them stories of different fighters he had fought and even showed them some of the simpler self defense moves they showed him. Apparently my form is Deplorable Rin laughed and he air quoted the last word. The others could tell it was a fond memory and noticed that he did not talk about any of his fights with malice.
They knew he was a delinquent before coming to this school, due to rumors that a certain someone spread, it was never given a second thought but the pride he had in his fights was so uncommon. If he was getting in trouble for them, why did he sound like he was having so much fun. Bon was the one who finally asked and the answer was confusing but surprising.
Rin attempted to explain the feelings he got while fighting someone and even told them about the 'smelly' human he had interacted with. The others took some time but seemed like they understood him. It was a first for Rin and made him extremely happy. Even if some of them were still looking at him odd like Koneko and Shiemi, Shima and Bon were nodding along like this was natural.
You really are an idiot Bon sighed as they started cleaning up the mats. Being the honor student that he was and not allowing the delinquents, Rin and Shima, skip. He corralled them back to the classroom where they were met by a lecture by Yukio and extra cleaning duties for taking such a long break. Seeing less tension in Rin's shoulders as he was being scolded was worth it though.
