"Mei-Li, let's go! We need to leave for school soon!" Lim called up the stairs.

"I don't know what to wear!" Mei-Li shouted.

"Wear something that's clean and doesn't have wrinkles," Lim instructed, "Come on, little guy," Lim cooed at Carlos, gently patting his back.

"Come on, mija, you need to eat your breakfast," said Melendez.

"Should I wear my pink shirt or my purple one?" asked Mei-Li.

"I'll go help her," said Melendez.

"Thank you," said Lim. She looked down at Carlos and said, "Your big sister is hard to deal with sometimes. She's stubborn like her Mommy and Daddy. And I have the feeling you'll be exactly the same way."

Mei-Li and Melendez came down the stairs, Mei-Li having decided on the purple shirt, and Lim set two plates full of bacon and waffles in front of Mei-Li and Melendez. She put Carlos in his high chair before starting on her own breakfast. "I'm going to have the best parents for Job Day at school," said Mei-Li excitedly.

"I'm sure there will be cool jobs other kids' parents do as well," said Melendez.

"But you save people," said Mei-Li.

"So do a lot of other people, like firefighters," said Lim.

"Yeah, but you get to work with cool things and wear special outfits," said Mei-Li, "And you get to tell all of the other doctors what to do."

The family heard a knock at the door and Melendez said, "Looks like Mom and Dad are here," Melendez let his parents in and greeted, "Hola Mom, Dad."

"Hi mijo," said Maria.

"Well, if it isn't the two people who have the coolest jobs in the world. Isn't that right, Mei-Li?" asked Mateo. Mei-Li nodded excitedly.

"We should be home around noon; we'll be able to watch Carlos for the rest of the day until we have to pick up Mei-Li again," said Lim, "Isn't that right, little man?" Lim cooed at Carlos, to which he giggled.

Lim passed Carlos to Mateo and he cooed, "Come here, amorcito."

"We have to get going," said Lim, "Mei-Li, come on!"

Melendez helped her put on her Disney princess jean jacket and she retrieved her Disney princess backpack and matching lunchbox, "Bye Abuelita, bye Abuelito."

"Adios, amorcita," Maria kissed her granddaughter.

"Bye bye, Simba," Mei-Li kissed Carlos's cheek.

"Well, time to get going so I can be the talk of the kindergarten class," said Melendez, flexing his muscles.

Lim rolled her eyes and grabbed his hand, "Come on Dr. Stud. We're going to be late."

Once the family was on their way, Mei-Li asked, "Mommy, Daddy, what does stud mean?"

"Um," Melendez and Lim both stuttered. Lim turned towards the back seat and asked, "Sweetheart, where did you hear a term like that?"

"When you called Daddy Dr. Stud," answered Mei-Li.

"Oh," Lim responded, not even realizing her daughter had overheard her use that term, "Well, it just means that I think Daddy looks nice and that he's handsome."

"Like when we say girls are pretty?" asked Mei-Li.

"Sort of," said Lim.

"Okay," said Mei-Li. Lim breathed a sigh of relief over the fact that her daughter was satisfied.

"Nice save," Melendez said and chuckled.

They arrived at Mei-Li's school and made their way to her kindergarten class, "Hi Ms. Morgan," Mei-Li waved and put her belongings in her cubby.

"Hi Mei-Li," Ms. Morgan greeted, "Dr. Melendez and Dr. Lim-Melendez, I'm sure the students are looking forward to your presentation today."

"Mei-Li is very excited about us being here," Melendez answered.

Around the room, there were many parents from various occupations, wearing various outfits to match: uniforms, suits, jackets, overalls, lab coats, scrubs, and hard hats. Once it was Mei-Li's turn, she went to the front of the room with her report that her parents had helped her write, "My Mommy and Daddy are both doctors and they work at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Daddy fixes people's hearts and lungs and Mommy helps people who have gone through things like car accidents. They get to wear special gowns, masks, gloves, hats, and glasses when they operate on people, and they get to use special tools to fix people. They are also in charge of the other doctors who operate on people, so they handle money, schedules, and listen to people's problems to try to fix them. They have one of the best jobs in the world because they save people, and I want to be just like them when I grow up."

The other children and parents clapped as Melendez and Lim took their places at the front of the room, "Thank you for the wonderful introduction, Mei-Li," said Lim, "Well, as Mei-Li said, we're both doctors, specifically surgeons. What we do is help people by doing operations on them."

As the presentation progressed, Melendez and Lim showed the students different medical equipment like stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, and pulse ox monitors by demonstrating on volunteers from the class. They also showed the students the surgical masks and gloves they used and let each student keep one of each of their own. After they were finished, Melendez asked, "Alright, does anyone have any questions?" lots of hands were raised, "How about you?" he pointed to a young boy.

"Have you ever seen blood?" he asked.

They both hesitated before Lim answered, "Yes, how about you?" she called on a young girl.

"How come an operation doesn't hurt?" she asked.

"Well, we give patients a special medicine that puts them to sleep so they don't feel anything," explained Melendez.

"I had my appendix taken out and I don't remember what happened after they put the mask on me," announced another student.

"Okay, well, we have a few more presentations, so let's thank Dr. Melendez and Dr. Lim-Melendez," said Ms. Morgan, encouraging the students to clap. Mei-Li hugged her parents for good measure.

At dinner that night, Lim settled Carlos and Mei-Li at the table while Melendez brought the food from the kitchen. As they were eating and Melendez was feeding Carlos, Mei-Li asked, "Mommy, Daddy, do you think I can be a doctor like you?"

Lim took a bite of her meal and looked at Mei-Li, "Well, if that's what you want to be when you grow up. But I always thought you wanted to be a ballerina? That's what you tell me every time I pick you up from dance class."

"If being a Disney Princess doesn't work out," Melendez joked.

"Yeah, but you save people. I want to help save people," said Mei-Li.

"Well, you know you'd have to go to school a long time?" said Lim.

"And it's a lot of hard work to become a doctor," Melendez added.

"I know. But I want to be just like you when I grow up," said Mei-Li.

"Well, I think you'll be great at whatever you decide to do when you grow up," said Lim.
