Something that was never questioned but always present was Rin body temperature. For obvious reasons, Shiro never took the young demon to a hospital or doctor. He always seemed in the peak of health and he really did not have to worry about any human diseases infecting him. Sadly things like the chicken pox and measles affected Yukio just fine but Rin never experienced them. He stayed by Yukio's side during the worst of them but never caught them.

Shiro had a theory that the demon blood in the boy, burned out the diseases before they could spread through his body. Shiro wished he could say that did not affect the way he treated the boys but it did. Rin could brush off most injuries and infections by himself but his younger brother could not. That may be why Yukio seemed more protected than Rin from the outside world, even if the younger was an established demon hunter from a young age.

So Rin had gone through his entire life without a physical or taking any medication. When the school he attended had fitness day, he simply skipped school for the entire day. He did not feel sick and learned that's the only time he needed to go to doctors. He never questioned why Yukio seemed to go more often than him or why he got sick more often. He was the younger brother after all, so it was natural in Rin's eyes. He did not say as much after middle school when Yukio screeched his ears off when he said as much to him but oh well.

That may be why Rin did not question why everyone's skin felt cold to him when he touched them. He was always comfortable, even in the winter. His brother and even occasionally Shiro would huddle close to him when the temperature dropped but they never seemed to notice they were doing it. Yukio assumed his brother was warm because of how hot blooded he tended to run while Shiro and the other priests just never thought about it. It was just one more thing about the boy.

Shiro had to threaten to buy him nothing but dresses just to get the boy to wear a small coat in the winter. Even then that was all he could get the boy to wear. His clothing trend continued into high school after his transformation. The others of course noted that he ran hotter than themselves but it was just one thing after another and he was the weird kid. The normal day class students did not even notice that. He stayed clear of them for the most part.

Bon and Shima had to make sure if they shared sleeping space on missions that they stayed away from the boy or else they would seek his body heat out as they slept. A few too many awkward cases led to Rin sleeping outside the tent more often than not. He really could not keep a secret long either so it was no wonder when the truth about his heritage came out so quickly. Right after, no one got close enough to feel his body heat for a long time.

When they did start hanging out again, it was a tentative thing where everyone still kept their distance. It only came to light when a nasty case of the flu started going around the school. Since the cram students were required to stay in the dorms and all of them got sick at the same time, there was no choice but to house them in same dorm so the doctor could see to them all. Mephisto was nothing if not thorough.

Bon spent most of the first two days yelling at Rin for taking care of the group. Shiemi was the one who finally said something about how practiced he was and that was brushed off with a "I'm use to it from taking care of Yukio". Yukio just sighed from his bed and looked away while the others looked to him. Finally he spoke "I've never known my brother to get sick, no matter how sick I got".

It was hard to tell if Bon was irritated or relieved when he said "I guess idiots really don't get sick do they". That started the two resident hotheads yelling at each other while the others watched with growing headaches. It was a relief when the doorbell finally rang and Rin went to answer it. "He only yells at you because you always start it" Kamiki stated. "He just pisses me off right now" Bon replied. "Yeah, who knew he would be so good at caring for the sick" Shima added. "Maybe he should be a Doctor like Yuki" Shiemi continued the conversation.

At that comment the group went silent while they all thought of the hilarious thought. The son of Satan, healing humans instead of fighting. The thought must not have been the best joke because nobody laughed. "I could see that" Koneko said quietly after the lull had went on too long. The doctor could be heard talking to Rin about caring for the group in the next room while the others thought about it.

Rin was loud and did fight but he was so good at comforting others. It was a talent none of the group put much stock in. He was always watching them and just knew when they were down. He did fight but it was always as a last resort. Bon would not go so far as to say he's a pacifist but it was a close thing. Yukio thought about Kuro and Ukoboch, two demons that Rin chose not to fight but to befriend. A dark cloud settled over the group when they realized that it did not matter what Rin wanted.

He would fight for his entire life. Even if he was the most gifted healer in the order, No one would let him heal them and he would never escape a violent life. The gloomy looks must have frightened Rin when he returned because he took one look at the group and turned straight around and walked out. The doctor was a curious priest. He wore the black clothing of the order and by the way he spoke to Rin, he either did not know or care about his demon status.

"Alright kids, I'm going to look at you lot first and then look at your lovely caretaker. Don't want him catching this as well". With the gift of ignorance, the other students decided not to correct his assumptions. He saw no need to separate them as he looked them over but listened to each one in the room. Kids usually did better in groups than split up anyway. He may be a new doctor but he knew that much.

As he finished up, Rin returned with a tray of something akin to heaven for the group. They were more or less shaved ice with minimal sugar in it. Enough to sooth sore throats and ease stomach pain. It was "an old recipe he would not share with anyone". While everyone ate, they watched the battle of wills as the doctor attempted to look at the wayward boy. He argued and hissed but the doctor would not be moved, he eventually got the boy to sit down and opened his computer up.

"Uh" he said confused and typed more on the computer. "What" Rin asked concerned. "That's just odd is all. When a student is enrolled in the academy, the school gathers all their medical information and puts it on file. You don't seem to have anything in your file. Not even a height and weight" he continued to look. With a released breath, Rin answered the unasked question "yeah, I've never been to a doctor before so there probably isn't really..." He was cut off by the look of horror on the doctors and the cram students faces.

The only one not surprised was Yukio who knew why and quickly explained. "With the way Rin is, it was not really safe to go". Bon was irritated again "what was his excuse when he came to the academy". This started another conversation between the group as the doctor frantically started asking the boy questions and listening to his heart. Apparently having your first physical ever surrounding by sick people stressed out medical staff. Who Knew?

He must have found something with the way his nose scrunched when he looked at the thermometer. He check Rin's temperature a half a dozen times before asking if he was sure he felt alright. When all he got was an affirmative, he looked like he was starting to develop his own headache. "Your temperature is 105 degrees right now. Rin did not know what that meant but Yukio choked on his shaved ice as he watched. "what" he yelped as he attempted to get out of bed to check his brother before another dizzy spell hit.

Rin chuckled and got closer to his younger brother to ask what the problem was. Apparently his brain should have been boiling. The others contemplated it while Shiemi was the one that came up with the theory "well, Rin had always been really warm even in the summer". The others stopped freaking out long enough to think as a group. Had anyone ever felt him get chilled, even in winter when he wore that thin coat. When Yukio brought up the coat, Rin chuckled again but explained he did not need it and reasoning why he wore it.

Yukio got a fond look on his face at the story of his father and brother and it clicked into place. He explained to the frantic doctor about his brother's flames and the probable cause of the difference in temperature. He did continue to care for them even after they talked the doctor out of an ambulance for the young man. They all laughed about it later and not one of them felt bad about using him as a portable heater after that. He was not exactly complaining either.
