Charlie's pov
(A/N: don't own CBTD or the songs)
Six months of wedding planning later, and here we were. Just the families of the bride and groom alone totaled 26 people, and we had invited plenty of friends on top of that. I was beginning to get pre-wedding jitters. Jitters, and strong ones, but not cold feet. Never. I couldn't even handle the thought of abandoning Annie. I heard knocks on the door to the room I was in, and was not at all surprised to see my parents, siblings, brother-in-law and nephew pour into the room. How they knew that was exactly what I had been in need of, I'll never fully understand. My parents, Sarah, Jake, Mark, Lorraine and Nora hugged me first, and after my other siblings had hugged me, it was if my older sister had read my mind, passing me my nephew. There's just something pacifying to me about holding a baby or small child... Maybe that has to do with growing up a Baker, but it is soothing nonetheless. Especially now that Tommy learned to giggle. I could feel my worries melting awa by the second. My Dad brought me out of my thoughts
"You ok? Little jittery?"
I nodded
"I'm ok. Still a bit jittery, but that's normal, right?"
He nodded, clapping me on the shoulder and giving it a reassuring squeeze
"Most nerve wrecking day of your life til you're a parent. Totally normal. Just deep breath, and enjoy the good times ahead."
Thankfully, that advice had been what I needed to hear, and the ceremony went on as seamlessly as any Baker/Murtaugh affair could go. Yeah, there were a few snags... All things considered, the chaos could have been way bigger than it was. We got away with Gunner causing contained damage after Sarah once again pranked Hank with meat, but in the seat form of the classic this time around. Honestly, I have no idea why Hank was there in the first place. That self-absorbed dummy had NOT been invited, and he was Nora's ex whom she dumped because he did not care about her family. Our family. He apparently was trying to get her back, but failed to realize Nora was almost three years married, and was a mother. Well... he got what he deserved, and the wedding DEFINITELY had entertainment, even after the lounge singer had to cancel last minute. Lorraine was sweet enough to offer to sing afterwards instead, and my little sister's voice is beautiful, I'll proudly admit. She sang a few songs after the traditional three waltzes. First waltz as a married couple, then Father-Daughter, and Mother-Son.
Our first dance was, fittingly, to Love Story, the newer version to come out, Taylor's version. I thought that it was very sweet how much of a change of heart and attitude Mr. Murtaugh ended up having towards Annie and her life choices, beautifully captured in their father-daughter dance to Butterfly Fly Away by Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus. I snickered at the double meaning due to her secret tattoo as well. Proving we were still somewhat those little kids at Lake Winnetka, she subtly stuck out her tongue at me realizing my larger-than-life teasing grin had to do with the song and her body ink. Not long after, I pulled my Mom to the dance floor, to a purely instrumental version of Never Grow Up by Taylor Swift, a message my Mom often joked her kids never understood, no matter how many times she'd tell us. It was special.
A few hours later, the reception was over as well, and it was time for us to leave on our honeymoon to a ranch near the snowy mountains. Many goodbyes later, we were finally off.
