Charlie's pov
It was time to head back home, and, after waiting until it we were risk-free, it was finally time to tell our families about the pregnancy. It would be a huge reunion of the Baker and Murtaugh families. 26 people plus however many babies Annie was carrying. Annie had been the one to come up with the cool way of how we were going to tell them. I was in love with the idea, knowing I'd get a chuckle or two out of it, but she was now second guessing herself
"Do you think it's safe, pinning the Bakers against the Murtaughs again? Willingly? For a scavenger hunt?!"
Maybe she was right, but I really did want to see how it was all going to play out. Flashing my wife the same boyish grin I had retained after the years, I kissed her hand
"Everything will be fine. And if not, we'll get through it."
I paired the end of the sentence with a sweet puppy-like face, which melts her every time. Like a superpower I had over her. She laughed
"Ok, fine. But when things go awry, it's on you."
I knew she wasn't really mad at me, and soon our guests were all at the house, hugs going all around. Not being able to contain herself, Lorraine asked
"What's the big surprise?!"
Even though she was in her third month of the pregnancy, they could not tell, or just were going along with the secret. It also helped that her wearing my clothes was a semi-regular occurrence, so, when she began to fully depend on my clothing no one really batted an eye. I cleared my throat
"Time for us to invite you all to the Baker v Murtaugh scavenger hunt!"
The teams quickly got together as we handed them their clues, and they were soon off. Of course, with that many people working together, the game was over shortly. Overjoyed, they exclaimed
"You're EXPECTING?!"
We nodded, soon becoming the epicenter of a huge hug fest.
Sarah and Elliot beat everyone else to the next question
"Do you know genders or number yet?"
I shook my head
"Next month."
Annie spoke up
"But multiples do run in the family, so I'm not writing twins off..."
That possibility scared me. TWO babies? At ONCE? It worked for my parents because they had tons of kids already to help when they got two at once. Not at the very beginning! Nonetheless, I kept my internal panicking at that - internal. We enjoyed the rest of the cookout and engaged in a few harmless games to close off the evening, and Annie and I snuck a few glances at Nora and Bud with Tommy, thinking the same thing
Soon that would be us.
